Are Bosonic Replicas Faulty?

Motivated by the ongoing discussion about a seeming asymmetry in the performance of fermionic and bosonic replicas, we present an exact, nonperturbative approach to zero-dimensional replica field theories belonging to the broadly interpreted "beta=2" Dyson symmetry class. We then utilise the formalism developed to demonstrate that the bosonic replicas do correctly reproduce the microscopic spectral density in the QCD inspired chiral Gaussian unitary ensemble. This disproves the myth that the bosonic replica field theories are intrinsically faulty.

Integrable Structure of Ginibre's Ensemble of Real Random Matrices and a Pfaffian Integration Theorem

In the recent publication [E. Kanzieper and G. Akemann, Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 230201 (2005); arXiv: math-ph/0507058], an exact solution was reported for the probability "p_{n,k}" to find exactly "k" real eigenvalues in the spectrum of an "n" by "n" real asymmetric matrix drawn at random from Ginibre's Orthogonal Ensemble (GinOE). In the present paper, we offer a detailed derivation of the above result by concentrating on the proof of the Pfaffian integration theorem, the key ingredient of our analysis of the statistics of real eigenvalues in the GinOE. We also initiate a study of the correlations of complex eigenvalues and derive a formula for the joint probability density function of all complex eigenvalues of a GinOE matrix restricted to have exactly "k" real eigenvalues. In the particular case of "k=0", all correlation functions of complex eigenvalues are determined.

Statistics of Real Eigenvalues in Ginibre's Ensemble of Random Real Matrices

The integrable structure of Ginibre's Orthogonal Ensemble of random matrices is looked at through the prism of the probability "p_{n,k}" to find exactly "k" real eigenvalues in the spectrum of an "n" by "n" real asymmetric Gaussian random matrix. The exact solution for the probability function "p_{n,k}" is presented, and its remarkable connection to the theory of symmetric functions is revealed. An extension of the Dyson integration theorem is a key ingredient of the theory presented.

Exact replica treatment of non-Hermitean complex random matrices

Recently discovered exact integrability of zero-dimensional replica field theories [E. Kanzieper, Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 250201 (2002)] is examined in the context of Ginibre Unitary Ensemble of non-Hermitean random matrices (GinUE). In particular, various nonperturbative fermionic replica partition functions for this random matrix model are shown to belong to a positive, semi-infinite Toda Lattice Hierarchy which, upon its Painleve reduction, yields exact expressions for the mean level density and the density-density correlation function in both bulk of the complex spectrum and near its edges. Comparison is made with an approximate treatment of non-Hermitean disordered Hamiltonians based on the "replica symmetry breaking" ansatz. A difference between our replica approach and a framework exploiting the replica limit of an infinite (supersymmetric) Toda Lattice equation is also discussed.

Replica field theories, Painleve transcendents, and exact correlation functions

Exact solvability is claimed for nonlinear replica sigma models derived in the context of random matrix theories. Contrary to other approaches reported in the literature, the framework outlined does not rely on traditional "replica symmetry breaking" but rests on a previously unnoticed exact relation between replica partition functions and Painleve transcendents. While expected to be applicable to matrix models of arbitrary symmetries, the method is used to treat fermionic replicas for the Gaussian unitary ensemble (GUE), chiral GUE (symmetry classes A and AIII in Cartan classification) and Ginibre's ensemble of complex non-Hermitean random matrices. Further applications are briefly discussed.
