Asteroseismology of HD 23734, HD 68703, and HD 73345 using K2-TESS Space-based Photometry and High-resolution Spectroscopy

In this paper, we present a comprehensive study of three stars, HD 23734, HD 68703, and HD 73345, which were previously observed as chemically peculiar candidates within the Nainital-Cape survey and reported as null results for the pulsational variability. Frequency analyses of \ktwo\ and \tess\ time-series photometric data reveal the co-existence of rotational modulation and pulsation. We use the spectrum synthesis technique to determine fundamental parameters and chemical composition, which shows that all the three stars are likely to be chemically normal. The evolutionary status of the target stars corresponds to the main-sequence phases and places them within the $δ$ Scuti instability strip of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. The line profile variability is observed in all three stars, especially intriguing in HD\,68703 and a typical signature of the non-radial pulsation, demands further detailed examination. Using \tess\ photometry, we identified the radial modes of orders $n$=3 and 4 for HD\,23734, $n$=1, 3, and 4 for HD\,68703, and $n$=3,4 and 5 for HD\,73345. In addition to the presence of pulsation and rotation, HD\,73345 exhibits a steady increase in radial velocity that we interpret as the star being likely to be part of a long-period binary system. Finally, we propose an extended campaign aimed for the in-depth spectroscopic and spectropolarimetric study of selected pulsating stars monitored under the Nainital-Cape survey project.

Chemical abundances and doppler imaging of the Ap Si/He-wk star HD 100357

We present the results of time-resolved photometry, abundance analysis and Doppler imaging of an Ap star, HD 100357. The {\it TESS} photometry revealed rotational modulation with a period of 1.6279247 days. Upon inspecting the residuals after removing the rotational period and its harmonics, we found additional frequencies around 15.8054 d$^{-1}$ which we later confirmed with ground-based observations as originating from a nearby star. Using high-resolution spectroscopy, we identified HD 100357 as an Ap Si/He-wk star exhibiting rotational modulation caused by surface abundance spots. The stellar parameters of HD 100357 were determined as $T_{\rm eff}$ = 11,850 K, $\log g$ = 4.57, $\upsilon\sin i$ = 60 km\,s$^{-1}$, and an inclination angle $i$ = 72$^{\circ}$. The detailed abundance analysis revealed strongly overabundant stratified silicon, an overabundance of iron-peak elements and rare earth elements combined with remarkably deficient helium. Mapping of Fe and Cr abundances revealed the existence of ring-shaped regions with a lower concentration of the elements. Their geometry might reflect the orientation of the hypothetical magnetic field of the star, oriented $\sim$90$^{\circ}$ to the rotational axis. HD 100357, with its strong chemical peculiarities and indications of possible magnetic fields, represents an interesting candidate for follow-up spectropolarimetric observations aimed at investigating its magnetic field topology and stellar activity.

Asteroseismology of the mild Am $δ$ Sct star HD 118660 : TESS photometry and modelling

We present the results of an asteroseismic study of HD 118660 (TIC 171729860), being a chemically peculiar (mild Am) star exhibiting $δ$ Scuti ($δ$ Sct) pulsations. It is based on the analysis of two sectors of time-series photometry from the space mission TESS and seismic modelling. It yielded the detection of 15 and 16 frequencies for TESS sectors 23 and 50, respectively. The identified pulsation modes include four radial ($\ell=0$) and five dipolar ($\ell=1$) ones. The radial modes are overtones with order $n$ ranging from $3$ and $6$. Such high values of $n$ are theoretically not expected for stars with the effective temperature of HD 118660 ($\rm T_{\rm eff}\approx 7550 \rm K$ ) located near the red edge of the $δ$ Sct instability strip. To estimate the asteroseismic parameters, we have generated a grid of stellar models assuming a solar metallicity ($Z=0.014$) and different values for the convective overshooting parameter ($0.1\leq α_{\rm ov}\leq 0.3$). We conclude that the analysis of the radial modes is insufficient to constrain $α_{\rm ov}$ and $Z$ for $δ$ Sct stars. The value for the equatorial velocity of HD 118660 derived from the seismic radius and the rotational frequency is consistent with values found in the literature.

Spectroscopic Devices for Asteroseismology With Small Telescopes in NARIT

The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has a manifold network of small telescopes installed worldwide. These telescopes serve educational and research purposes and are equipped mainly with CCD detectors for direct imaging and photometry. To extend the possible field of applications, several telescopes were fitted with commercially available medium-resolution spectrographs eShel from Shelyak. With these devices, researchers in NARIT obtained a versatile tool for stellar spectroscopy. Here we describe the current status of available equipment, possible ways of upgrading, and briefly introduce the achieved results of the asteroseismologic study of fast-rotating stars.

Sciences with Thai National Radio Telescope

This White Paper summarises potential key science topics to be achieved with Thai National Radio Telescope (TNRT). The commissioning phase has started in mid 2022. The key science topics consist of "Pulsars and Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs)", "Star Forming Regions (SFRs)", "Galaxy and Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs)", "Evolved Stars", "Radio Emission of Chemically Peculiar (CP) Stars", and "Geodesy", covering a wide range of observing frequencies in L/C/X/Ku/K/Q/W-bands (1-115 GHz). As a single-dish instrument, TNRT is a perfect tool to explore time domain astronomy with its agile observing systems and flexible operation. Due to its ideal geographical location, TNRT will significantly enhance Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) arrays, such as East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN), Australia Long Baseline Array (LBA), European VLBI Network (EVN), in particular via providing a unique coverage of the sky resulting in a better complete "uv" coverage, improving synthesized-beam and imaging quality with reducing side-lobes. This document highlights key science topics achievable with TNRT in single-dish mode and in collaboration with VLBI arrays.

Spectropolarimetry of Magnetic Chemically Peculiar Stars in the Orion OB1 Association

We summarise the results of a spectropolarimetric survey of 56 chemically peculiar (CP) stars in the association of Orion OB1. We uniformly collected the observational material with the 6-m telescope BTA of the Special Astrophysical Observatory in 2013-2021. We identify 14 new magnetic CP stars with a longitudinal magnetic field exceeding approximately 500 G. The studied sample contains 31 magnetic stars or 55% of the whole CP population in Orion OB1. We show that the percentage of the magnetic CP stars and the field strength drops sharply with age. The mean longitudinal magnetic field in the young subgroup OB1b ($\log t=6.23$) is confidently almost three times stronger than in the older subgroups OB1a ($\log t=7.05$) and OB1c ($\log t=6.66$). In the Orion Nebula, a place with the youngest stellar population ($\log t < 6.0$), we detect the magnetic field only in 20% of CP stars. Such occurrence drastically differs from 83% of magnetic CP stars in the nearby subgroup OB1c. We consider this effect an observational bias caused by a significant portion of a very young population with the signatures of Herbig Ae/Be stars. The technique we used for magnetic measurements, and the quality of available data do not allow us to detect weak fields in the case of stars with a limited number of lines and emissions in spectra.

HiFLEx -- a highly flexible package to reduce cross-dispersed echelle spectra

We describe a flexible data reduction package for high resolution cross-dispersed echelle data. This open-source package is developed in Python and includes optional GUIs for most of the steps. It does not require any pre-knowledge about the form or position of the echelle-orders. It has been tested on cross-dispersed echelle spectrographs between 13k and 115k resolution (bifurcated fiber-fed spectrogaph ESO-HARPS and single fiber-fed spectrograph TNT-MRES). HiFLEx can be used to determine radial velocities and is designed to use the TERRA package but can also control the radial velocity packages such as CERES and SERVAL to perform the radial velocity analysis. Tests on HARPS data indicates radial velocities results within 3m/s of the literature pipelines without any fine tuning of extraction parameters.

TYC 3637-1152-1 - a High Amplitude delta Scuti star with peculiar pulsational properties

In some delta Scuti stars, only one or two radial modes are excited (usually the fundamental mode and/or first overtone mode) and the observed peak-to-peak amplitudes exceed 0.3 mag (V). These stars are known as High Amplitude Delta Scuti (HADS) variables. We here present a detailed photometric and spectroscopic analysis of the HADS star TYC 3637-1152-1. We have derived a metallicity close to solar, a spectral type of F4V and an age of log t = 9.1. Employing archival time series data from different sources, two frequencies f0 =10.034 c/d and f1 =12.681 c/d and their harmonics and linear combinations were identified. The period ratio of f0/f1 = 0.791 puts this star into a peculiar position in the Petersen diagram, from which we conclude that TYC 3637-1152-1 is a unique object with peculiar pulsational properties that indicate a transitional state between HADS stars pulsating in the fundamental and first overtone modes and stars pulsating in higher overtones.

High-resolution Spectroscopy and Spectropolarimetry of Selected Delta Scuti Pulsating Variables

The combination of photometry, spectroscopy and spectropolarimetry of the chemically peculiar stars often aims to study the complex physical phenomena such as stellar pulsation, chemical inhomogeneity, magnetic field and their interplay with stellar atmosphere and circumstellar environment. The prime objective of the present study is to determine the atmospheric parameters of a set of Am stars to understand their evolutionary status. Atmospheric abundances and basic parameters are determined using full spectrum fitting technique by comparing the high-resolution spectra to the synthetic spectra. To know the evolutionary status we derive the effective temperature and luminosity from different methods and compare them with the literature. The location of these stars in the H-R diagram demonstrate that all the sample stars are evolved from the Zero-Age-Main-Sequence towards Terminal-Age-Main-Sequence and occupy the region of $δ$ Sct instability strip. The abundance analysis shows that the light elements e.g. Ca and Sc are underabundant while iron peak elements such as Ba, Ce etc. are overabundant and these chemical properties are typical for Am stars. The results obtained from the spectropolarimetric analysis shows that the longitudinal magnetic fields in all the studied stars are negligible that gives further support their Am class of peculiarity.

Radial velocities and metallicities of red giant stars in the old open cluster NGC 7762

We present and discuss radial velocity and the very first metallicity measurements for nine evolved stars in the poorly known old open cluster NGC 7762. We isolated eight radial velocity cluster members and one interloper. Radial velocities are in good agreement with previous studies. NGC 7762 turns out to be of solar metallicity within the uncertainties ([Fe/H]=0.04$\pm$0.12). For this metallicity, the cluster age is 2.5$\pm$0.2 Gyr, and falls in a age range where only a few old open clusters are known. With respect to previous studies, we find a larger distance, implying the cluster to be located at 900$^{+70}_{-50}$ pc from the Sun. For most of the elements we measure solar-scaled abundance ratios. We searched the literature for open clusters of similar age in the solar vicinity and found that NGC 7762 can be considered a twin of Ruprecht 147, a similar age cluster located at only 300 pc from the Sun. In fact, beside age, also metallicity and abundance ratios are very close to Ruprecht 147 values within the observational uncertainties.
