Thermodynamic characterizations of exotic and missing states

Thermal shifts and fluctuations at finite temperature below the deconfinement crossover of QCD from hadronic matter to the Quark-Gluon Plasma provide a viable way to look for exotic and missing states with given quantum numbers in the hadronic spectrum. We study a realization of the Hadron Resonance Gas model in the light quark ($uds$) flavor sector of QCD to study: i) the entropy shifts, and ii) the fluctuations of electric charge, baryon number and strangeness; and extract from them the possible existence of missing and exotic states from a comparison with lattice data. The analysis of the entropy shift based on the free energy of the Polyakov loop suggests the existence of exotic hybrids $g q \bar q$ and $gqqq$.

Time dependence of entanglement for steady state formation in AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$

We consider a holographic model of two 1+1-dimensional heat baths at different temperatures joined at time $t=0$, such that a steady state heat-current region forms and expands in space for times $t>0$. After commenting on the causal structure of the dual 2+1-dimensional spacetime, we present how to calculate the time-dependent entanglement entropy of the boundary system holographically. We observe that the increase rate of the entanglement entropy satisfies certain bounds known from the literature on entanglement tsunamis. Furthermore, we check the validity of several non-trivial entanglement inequalities in this dynamic system.

Time evolution of entanglement for holographic steady state formation

Within gauge/gravity duality, we consider the local quench-like time evolution obtained by joining two 1+1-dimensional heat baths at different temperatures at time t=0. A steady state forms and expands in space. For the 2+1-dimensional gravity dual, we find that the shockwaves expanding the steady-state region are of spacelike nature in the bulk despite being null at the boundary. However, they do not transport information. Moreover, by adapting the time-dependent Hubeny-Rangamani-Takayanagi prescription, we holographically calculate the entanglement entropy and also the mutual information for different entangling regions. For general temperatures, we find that the entanglement entropy increase rate satisfies the same bound as in the "entanglement tsunami" setups. For small temperatures of the two baths, we derive an analytical formula for the time dependence of the entanglement entropy. This replaces the entanglement tsunami-like behaviour seen for high temperatures. Finally, we check that strong subadditivity holds in this time-dependent system, as well as further more general entanglement inequalities for five or more regions recently derived for the static case.

Flavor anomalies from warped space

We study the recently found anomalies in $B$-meson decays within a scenario with a warped extra dimension where the Standard Model fermions are propagating in the bulk. The anomalies are then interpreted as the result of the exchange of heavy vector resonances with electroweak quantum numbers. The model naturally leads to lepton-flavor universality violation when different flavor fermions are differently localized along the extra dimension, signaling a different degree of compositeness in the dual holographic theory.

Lepton-flavor universality limits in warped space

We explore the limits on lepton-flavor universality (LFU) violation in theories where the hierarchy problem is solved by means of a warped extra dimension. In those theories LFU violation, in fermion interaction with Kaluza-Klein modes of gauge bosons, is provided ab initio when different flavor of fermions are differently localized along the extra dimension. As this fact arises from the mass pattern of quarks and leptons, LFU violation is natural in this class of theories. We analyze the experimental data pointing towards LFU violation, as well as the most relevant electroweak and flavor observables, and the LFU tests in the $μ/e$ and $τ/μ$ sectors. We find agreement with $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ data at 95% CL, provided the third generation left-handed fermions are composite ($0.14 < c_{b_L} < 0.28$ and $0.27 < c_{τ_L} < 0.33$), and find the absolute limits $R_{K^{(\ast)}}\gtrsim 0.79$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}/R_{D^{(\ast)}}^{\rm SM}\lesssim 1.13$. Moreover we predict $\mathcal B( B\to Kν\barν)\gtrsim 1.14\times 10^{-5}$ at 95% CL, smaller than the present experimental upper bound but a few times larger than the Standard Model prediction.

Singular perturbation theory for the thermodynamic properties of holographic QCD

We explore the thermodynamics of a black-hole solution in improved holographic QCD with a simple dilaton potential having two parameters. By applying techniques of singular perturbation theory, we get uniform approximations for the metric and the dilaton field in the two regimes of big and small black-holes. These techniques lead to a resummation of the naive expansion at high temperatures, providing an important theoretical improvement with respect to previous results in the literature. By using this technique, it is shown how a quadratic dependence at low enough temperatures can naturally appear in the free energy. A comparison with lattice data of gluodynamics is performed. It is provided as well an estimate of the value of the gluon condensate at zero temperature which turns out to be in quite good agreement with the accepted values in the literature from phenomenological studies of QCD.

Lepton-flavor universality violation in $R_K$ and $R_{D^{(*)}}$ from warped space

Some anomalies in the processes $b\to s\ell\ell$ ($\ell=μ,e$) and $b\to c \ell\barν_\ell$ ($\ell=τ,μ,e$), in particular in the observables $R_K$ and $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$, have been found by the BaBar, LHCb and Belle Collaborations, leading to a possible lepton flavor universality violation. If these anomalies were confirmed they would inevitably lead to physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we try to accommodate the present anomalies in an extra dimensional theory, solving the naturalness problem of the Standard Model by means of a warped metric with a strong conformality violation near the infra-red brane. The $R_K$ anomaly can be accommodated provided that the left-handed bottom quark and muon lepton have some degree of compositeness in the dual theory. The theory is consistent with all electroweak and flavor observables, and with all direct searches of Kaluza-Klein electroweak gauge bosons and gluons. The fermion spectrum, and fermion mixing angles, can be reproduced by mostly elementary right-handed bottom quarks, and tau and muon leptons. Moreover the $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ anomaly requires a strong degree of compositeness for the left-handed tau leptons, which turns out to be in tension with experimental data on the $g_{τ_L}^Z$ coupling, possibly unless some degree of fine-tuning is introduced in the fixing of the CKM matrix.

A Natural origin for the LHCb anomalies

The anomalies recently found by the LHCb collaboration in $B$-meson decays seem to point towards the existence of new physics coupled non-universally to muons and electrons. We show that a beyond-the-Standard-Model dynamics with these features naturally arises in models with a warped extra-dimension that aim to solve the electroweak Hierarchy Problem. The attractiveness of our set-up is the fact that the dynamics responsible for generating the flavor anomalies is automatically present, being provided by the massive Kaluza--Klein excitations of the electroweak gauge bosons. The flavor anomalies can be easily reproduced by assuming that the bottom and muon fields have a sizable amount of compositeness, while the electron is almost elementary. Interestingly enough, this framework correlates the flavor anomalies to a pattern of corrections in the electroweak observables and in flavor-changing processes. In particular the deviations in the bottom and muon couplings to the $Z$-boson and in $ΔF = 2$ flavor-changing observables are predicted to be close to the present experimental bounds, and thus potentially testable in near-future experiments.

A Natural extra-dimensional origin for the LHCb anomalies

We study the possibility of explaining the recently found anomalies in B-meson decays within scenarios with a composite Higgs boson. This class of models provides a natural way to fit the experimental results, interpreting the anomalies as the result of the exchange of heavy vector resonances with electroweak quantum numbers. The anomalies are tightly related to deviations in Delta F = 2 transitions and to deformations of the Z and W couplings, whose size is of the order of the present experimental bounds. This leads to a very predictive scenario which could be soon tested at collider experiments.

Anomalous Transport from Kubo Formulae

Chiral anomalies have profound impact on the transport properties of relativistic fluids. In four dimensions there are different types of anomalies, pure gauge and mixed gauge-gravitational anomalies. They give rise to two new non-dissipative transport coefficients, the chiral magnetic conductivity and the chiral vortical conductivity. They can be calculated from the microscopic degrees of freedom with the help of Kubo formulae. We review the calculation of the anomalous transport coefficients via Kubo formulae with a particular emphasis on the contribution of the mixed gauge-gravitational anomaly.

$g_μ-2$ from Vector-Like Leptons in Warped Space

The experimental value of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, as well as the LHCb anomalies, point towards new physics coupled non-universally to muons and electrons. Working in extra dimensional theories, which solve the electroweak hierarchy problem with a warped metric, strongly deformed with respect to the AdS$_5$ geometry at the infra-red brane, the LHCb anomalies can be solved by imposing that the bottom and the muon have a sizable amount of compositeness, while the electron is mainly elementary. Using this set-up as starting point we have proven that extra physics has to be introduced to describe the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We have proven that this job is done by a set of vector-like leptons, mixed with the physical muon through Yukawa interactions, and with a high degree of compositeness. The theory is consistent with all electroweak indirect, direct and theoretical constraints, the most sensitive ones being the modification of the $Z\barμμ$ coupling, oblique observables and constraints on the stability of the electroweak minimum. They impose lower bounds on the compositeness ($c\lesssim 0.37$) and on the mass of the lightest vector-like lepton ($\gtrsim 270$ GeV). Vector-like leptons could be easily produced in Drell-Yan processes at the LHC and detected at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV.

Anomaly induced transport in non-anomalous currents

Quantum anomalies are one of the subtlest properties of relativistic field theories. They give rise to non-dissipative transport coefficients in the hydrodynamic expansion. In particular a magnetic field can induce an anomalous current via the chiral magnetic effect. In this work we explore the possibility that anomalies can induce a chiral magnetic effect in non-anomalous currents as well. This effect is implemented through an explicit breaking of the symmetries.

Anomalous transport and massive gravity theories

We review the Kubo formulae relevant to study anomalous transport properties of relativistic fluids. We apply this formalism to perform a computation of the transport coefficients in a holographic massive gravity model including vorticity and external electromagnetic fields. We find an interesting phase in which the electric DC conductivity is negligible, while the anomalous conductivities turn out to be nonvanishing.

Efectos de Temperatura Finita y Curvatura en QCD y Modelos de Quarks Quirales

We develop the heat kernel method in the context of finite temperature quantum field theory. We compute the heat kernel expansion in the presence of general gauge and scalar fields which may be non Abelian and non stationary. The Polyakov loop appears at finite temperature as a new gauge covariant operator. We apply this method in the computation of the fully gauge invariant effective action of QCD in the regime of high temperature. It is obtained the dimensionally reduced effective action of QCD as well. In the context of chiral quark models, in particular the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio and the spectral quark model, we apply this method to compute the low-energy chiral Lagrangian at finite temperature. The coupling of the Polyakov loop with these models allows to solve some inconsistencies appearing in the standard treatment at finite temperature: generation of multi-quark states, large $N_c$ counting, etc. On the other hand, we show that recent available lattice data for the renormalized Polyakov loop above the deconfinement phase transition exhibit unequivocal inverse power temperature corrections driven by a dimension 2 gluon condensate. This simple ansatz provides a good overall description of the data throughout the deconfinement phase until near the critical temperature with just two parameters. Finally, we study several chiral quark models in the light of chiral perturbation theory in curved space-time. The low energy structure of the energy momentum tensor in these models with SU(3) flavor symmetry is analyzed in the presence of external gravitational fields.

Far-from-equilibrium energy flow and entanglement entropy

The time evolution of the energy transport triggered in a strongly coupled system by a temperature gradient is holographically related to the evolution of an asymptotically AdS black brane. We study the far-from-equilibrium properties of such a system by using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular, we describe the appearance of a steady state, and study the information flow by computing the time evolution of the holographic entanglement entropy. Some universal properties of the quenching process are presented.

Thermal shifts, fluctuations, and missing states

Thermal shifts and fluctuations at finite temperature below the deconfinement crossover from hadronic matter to the quark-gluon plasma provide a viable way to search for missing states with given quantum numbers in the hadronic spectrum. We analyze three realizations of the hadron resonance gas model in the light quark (uds) sector: the states from the Particle Data Group tables with or without width and from the Relativized Quark Model. We elaborate on the meaning of hadronic completeness and thermodynamical equivalence on the light of lattice QCD trace anomaly, heavy quark entropy shift and baryon, charge and strangeness susceptibilities.

Heavy Quark Coupled Channel Dynamics from Thermal Shifts

QCD at finite temperature below the phase transition should be determined in terms of colour singlet states such as hadrons and strings. We show how quark-hadron duality allows extracting sensible information concerning heavy quark and string breaking coupled channel dynamics from Polyakov loop correlators.

Fractal aspects of hadrons

The non extensive aspects of $p_T$ distributions obtained in high energy collisions are discussed in relation to possible fractal structure in hadrons, in the sense of the thermofractal structure recently introduced. The evidences of self-similarity in both theoretical and experimental works in High Energy and in Hadron Physics are discussed, to show that the idea of fractal structure of hadrons and fireballs have being under discussion for decades. The non extensive self-consistent thermodynamics and the thermofractal structure allow one to connect non extensivity to intermittence and possibly to parton distribution functions in a single theoretical framework.
