Test of Common Sense in Quantum Copying Process

It is believed that the more we have {\it a priori} information on input states, the better we can make the quality of clones in quantum cloning machines. This common sense idea was confirmed several years ago by analyzing a situation, where the input state is either one of two non-orthogonal states. If the {\it a priori} information is measured by the Shannon entropy, common sense predicts that the quality of the clone becomes poorer with increasing $N$, where $N$ is the number of possible input states. We show, however, that the {\it a priori} information measured by the Shannon entropy does not affect the quality of the clones. Instead the no-cloning theorem and `denseness' of the possible input states play important roles in determining the quality. Specifically, the factor `denseness' plays a more crucial role than the no-cloning theorem when $N \geq 3$.

Attack of Many Eavesdroppers via Optimal Strategy in Quantum Cryptography

We examine a situation that $n$ eavesdroppers attack the Bennett-Brassard cryptographic protocol via their own optimal and symmetric strategies. Information gain and mutual information with sender for each eavesdropper are explicitly derived. The receiver's error rate for the case of arbitrary $n$ eavesdroppers can be derived using a recursive relation. Although first eavesdropper can get mutual information without disturbance arising due to other eavesdroppers, subsequent eavesdropping generally increases the receiver's error rate. Other eavesdroppers cannot gain information on the input signal sufficiently. As a result, the information each eavesdropper gains becomes less than optimal one.

Quantum Resonance near Optimal Eavesdropping in Quantum Cryptography

We find a resonance behavior in the disturbance when an eavesdropper chooses a near-optimal strategy intentionally or unintentionally when the usual Bennett-Brassard cryptographic scheme is performed between two trusted parties. This phenomenon tends to disappear when eavesdropping strategy moves far from the optimal one. Therefore, we conjecture that this resonant effect is a characteristic for the eavesdropping strategy near to optimal one. We argue that this effect makes the quantum cryptography more secure against the eavesdropper's attack.

Correspondence between classical dynamics and energy level spacing distribution in the transition billiard systems

The Robnik billiard is investigated in detail both classically and quantally in the transition range from integrable to almost chaotic system. We find out that a remarkable correspondence between characteristic features of classical dynamics, especially topological structure of integrable regions in the Poincaré surface of section, and the statistics of energy level spacings appears with a system parameter $λ$ being varied. It is shown that the variance of the level spacing distribution changes its behavior at every particular values of $λ$ in such a way that classical dynamics changes its topological structure in the Poincaré surface of section, while the skewness and the excess of the level spacings seem to be closely relevant to the interface structure between integrable region and chaotic sea rather than inner structure of intergrable regoin.

Transitions to quantum chaos in a generic one-parameter family of billiards

Generic one-parameter billiards are studied both classically and quantally. The classical dynamics for the billiards makes a transition from regular to fully chaotic motion through intermediary soft chaotic system. The energy spectra of the billiards are computed using finite element method which has not been applied to the euclidean billiard. True generic quantum chaotic transitional behavior and its sensitive dependence on classical dynamics are uncovered for the first time. That is, this sensitive dependence of quantum spectral measures on classical dynamics is a genuine manifestation of quantum chaos.

Propagator for an Aharonov-Bohm-Coulomb system

The propagator of three-dimensional Aharonov-Bohm-Coulomb system is calculated by following the Duru-Kleinert method. It is shown that the system is reduced to two independent two dimensional Aharonov-Bohm plus harmonic oscillator systems through dimensional extension and Kustaanheimo-Stiefel transformation. The energy spectrum is deduced.

Test of dilute gas approximation in quantum mechanical model

The validity of dilute gas approximation is explored by making use of the large-sized instanton in quantum mechanical model. It is shown that the Euclidean probability amplitude derived through a dilute gas approximation not only cannot explain the result of the linear combination of atomic orbitals approximation, but also does not exhibit a proper limiting case when the size of instanton is very large.

Effect of Anharmonicity on the WKB Energy Splitting in a Double Well Potential

We investigate the effect of anharmonicity on the WKB approximation in a double well potential. By incorporating the anharmonic perturbation into the WKB energy splitting formula we show that the WKB approximation can be greatly improved in the region over which the tunneling is appreciable. We also observe that the usual WKB results can be obtained from our formalism as a limiting case in which the two potential minima are far apart.

Instantonic approach to triple well potential

By using a usual instanton method we obtain the energy splitting due to quantum tunneling through the triple well barrier. It is shown that the term related to the midpoint of the energy splitting in propagator is quite different from that of double well case, in that it is proportional to the algebraic average of the frequencies of the left and central wells.
