Solitons in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the pseudo-Raman term, anti-diffusion gain and nonlinear loss

We introduce a nonconservative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) which includes additional nonlinear terms accounting for the pseudo-stimulated-Raman-scattering (pseudo-SRS) effect and cubic loss. An essentially novel feature of the model is the linear anti-diffusion gain, which leads to the obvious blow-up in the infinite or spatially periodic system. We consider the absorptive boundary conditions, which suppress the blow-up driven by effective convective instability in the setup. The NSLE model is derived, in the extended adiabatic approximation, from the underlying Zakharov system, which includes the viscosity term acting on its low-frequency component and the anti-diffusion gain in the high-frequency (HF) one. The latter term appears if the expansion, with respect to the deviation of the wavenumber, is performed not around the minimum-loss point (as in the usual situation), but around a maximum-loss point. Dynamics of moving solitons in the model is addressed by means of analytical and numerical methods. The sech approximation for the soliton predicts it as a stable fixed point (FP) of the system of balance equations for the HF norm and wave momentum, derived in the moving reference frame. The FP attraction basin is identified too. The predictions are corroborated by direct simulations of the full NSLE with the absorptive boundary conditions.

Quasi-confined modes produced by the Lugiato-Lefever model with a localized pump and the pseudo-Raman term

We introduce an extended nonlinear Lugiato-Lefever equation (LLE) with the pseudo-stimulated-Raman-scattering (pseudo-SRS) cubic term, linear damping/gain, and spatial inhomogeneous (weakly or strongly localized) pump. The LLE is derived, in the extended adiabatic approximation, from the underlying Zakharov system (ZS), which includes a viscosity term, acting on its low-frequency (LF) component, and the pump supporting the high-frequency (HF) one. Dynamics of quasi-solitons in the model is addressed by means of analytical and numerical methods. The sech-based approximation for the quasi-soliton predicts it as a stable fixed point (FP) of the system of evolution equations for the moments of the system moments (the HF norm, wave momentum, and center-of-mass coordinate). The attraction basin of the FP is identified too. The prediction is corroborated by direct simulations of the full LLE. A quasi-singular mode, supported by the delta-functional pump, is briefly considered too.

Solitons in a forced nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the pseudo-Raman effect

Dynamics of solitons is considered in the framework of an extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), which is derived from a Zakharov-type model for wind-driven high-frequency (HF) surface waves in the ocean, coupled to damped low-frequency (LF) internal waves. The drive gives rise to a convective (but not absolute) instability in the system. The resulting NLSE includes a pseudo-stimulated-Raman-scattering (pseudo-SRS) term, which is a spatial-domain counterpart of the SRS term, a well-known ingredient of the temporal-domain NLSE in optics. Analysis of the field-momentum balance and direct simulations demonstrate that wavenumber downshift by the pseudo-SRS may be compensated by the upshift induced by the wind traction, thus maintaining robust bright solitons in both stationary and oscillatory forms; in particular, they are not destroyed by the underlying convective instability. Analytical soliton solutions are found in an approximate form and verified by numerical simulations. Solutions for soliton pairs are obtained in the numerical form.
