Proximity operator characterization for abstract convex functions

We consider proximity operator as a selector of the subgradient in the context of abstract convexity and characterize its properties in term of minimization problems. We also investigate the continuity and differentiability of proximity operator in the case of paraconvex and weakly convex functions. Supporting examples are given in each section.

Searching point patterns in point clouds describing local topography

We address the problem of comparing and aligning spatial point configurations in $\mathbb{R}^3$ arising from structured geometric patterns. Each pattern is decomposed into arms along which we define a normalized finite-difference operator measuring local variations of the height component with respect to the planar geometry of the pattern. This quantity provides a parametrization-independent local descriptor that complements global similarity measures. In particular, it integrates naturally with Wasserstein-type distances for comparing point distributions and with Procrustes analysis for rigid alignment of geometric structures.

Primal-dual algorithm for weakly convex functions under sharpness conditions

We investigate the convergence of the primal-dual algorithm for composite optimization problems when the objective functions are weakly convex. We introduce a modified duality gap function, which is a lower bound of the standard duality gap function. Under the sharpness condition of this new function, we identify the area around the set of saddle points where we obtain the convergence of the primal-dual algorithm. We give numerical examples and applications in image denoising and deblurring to demonstrate our results.

Forward-Backward algorithms for weakly convex problems

We investigate the convergence properties of exact and inexact forward-backward algorithms to minimise the sum of two weakly convex functions defined on a Hilbert space, where one has a Lipschitz-continuous gradient. We show that the exact forward-backward algorithm converges strongly to a global solution, provided that the objective function satisfies a sharpness condition. For the inexact forward-backward algorithm, the same condition ensures that the distance from the iterates to the solution set approaches a positive threshold depending on the accuracy level of the proximal computations. As an application of the considered setting, we provide numerical experiments related to discrete tomography.

Proximal Algorithms for a class of abstract convex functions

In this paper we analyze a class of nonconvex optimization problem from the viewpoint of abstract convexity. Using the respective generalizations of the subgradient we propose an abstract notion proximal operator and derive a number of algorithms, namely an abstract proximal point method, an abstract forward-backward method and an abstract projected subgradient method. Global convergence results for all algorithms are discussed and numerical examples are given

Characterisation of zero duality gap for optimization problems in spaces without linear structure

We prove sufficient and necessary conditions ensuring zero duality gap for Lagrangian duality in some classes of nonconvex optimization problems. To this aim, we use the $Φ$-convexity theory and minimax theorems for $Φ$-convex functions. The obtained zero duality results apply to optimization problems involving prox-bounded functions, DC functions, weakly convex functions and paraconvex functions as well as infinite-dimensional linear optimization problems, including Kantorovich duality which plays an important role in determining Wasserstein distance.

Duality for Composite Optimization Problem within the Framework of Abstract Convexity

We study conjugate and Lagrange dualities for composite optimization problems within the framework of abstract convexity. We provide conditions for zero duality gap in conjugate duality. For Lagrange duality, intersection property is applied to obtain zero duality gap. Connection between Lagrange dual and conjugate dual is also established. Examples related to convex and weakly convex functions are given.

p-regularity theory. Applications and developments

We present recent advances in the analysis of constrained optimization problems with constraints given by singular mappings obtained within the framework of the $p$-regularity theory developed over the last twenty years. In particular, we address the problem of description of the tangent cone to the solution set of the optimality conditions and solution methods for optimization problems.
