Charge dependence of mesons with flavored contact-interaction couplings

Effective interaction models of quantum chromodynamics, based on quark degrees of freedom, have been successfully employed to compute the properties of a large array of ground and excited meson and baryon states, along with their electromagnetic form factors, distribution functions and thermal behavior. Amongst them, the contact-interaction model, while non-renormalizable, implements confinement, satisfies Lorentz covariance and correctly describes chiral symmetry and its dynamical breaking pattern. Original studies focused on the light hadron sector in the isospin limit and were thereafter extended to heavy mesons and baryons. The strong effective couplings, as well as infrared and ultraviolet regulators, are flavor-dependent model parameters adjusted to reproduce hadronic observables. In contrast, in this study we combine SU(4) flavor-symmetry breaking couplings, obtained from one-loop vacuum polarization amplitudes in the presence of background constituent quark currents, with the contact-interaction model. This allows us to reduce the number of mass-dimensioned parameters and to consistently relate all flavored couplings to a single mass scale, while the masses and weak decay constants of the pions, kaons, $D$ and $D_s$ mesons are in good agreement with average reference values. Allowing for realistic isospin breaking, $m_d/m_u = 1.7$, in conjunction with the effect of the flavored couplings, leads to a mass splitting, $m_{π^+}- m_{π^0} \approx 0.3$ MeV, that agrees with lattice QCD values. For the kaons, the mass difference is $m_{K^0}- m_{K^\pm} \approx 2.3$ MeV, whereas $m_{D^\pm} - m_{D^0} \approx 0.5$ MeV and the $η_c$ is 6\% lighter than the experimental mass.

Weak magnetic field corrections to light vector or axial mesons mixings and vector meson dominance

Weak magnetic field induced corrections to effective coupling constants describing light vector mesons mixings and vector meson dominance (VMD) are derived. The magnetic field must be weak with respect to an effective quark mass $M^*$ such that: $eB_0/{M^*}^2< 1$ or $eB_0/{M^*}^2<<1$.For that, a flavor SU(2) quark-quark interaction due to non perturbative one gluon exchange is considered. By means of methods usually applied to the Nambu Jona Lasinio (NJL) and Global Color Models (GCM), leading light vector/axial mesons couplings to a background electromagnetic field are derived. The corresponding effective coupling constants are resolved in the structureless mesons and longwavelength limits. Some of the resulting coupling constants are redefined such as to become magnetic field induced corrections to vector or axial mesons couplings. Due to the approximated chiral symmetry of the model, light axial mesons mixings induced by the magnetic field are also obtained. Some numerical estimates are presented for the coupling constants and for some of the corresponding momentum dependent vertices. The contributions of the induced VMD and vector mesons mixing couplings for the low momentum pion electromagnetic form factor and for the (off shell) charge symmetry violation potential at the constituent quark level are estimated. The relative overall weak magnetic field-induced anisotropic corrections are of the order of $(eB_0/{M^*}^2)^n$, where $n=2$ or $n=1$ respectively.

Low energy constituent quark and pion effective couplings to external electromagnetic field and a weak magnetic field

In this work, a compilation of effective electromagnetic field couplings to pions and constituent quarks and their effective interactions derived previously, including corrections to the NJL model, is presented. The particular case of a weak external magnetic field along the $\hat{z}$ direction is considered shortly and effective coupling constants are redefined to incorporate the weak-$B_0$ dependence. They correspond to corrections to well known pion-constituent quark couplings and to the NJL and vector NJL effective couplings that break isospin and chiral symmetries.

Low energy constituent quark and pion effective couplings in a weak external magnetic field

An effective model with pions and constituent quarks in the presence of a weak external background electromagnetic field is derived by starting from a dressed one gluon exchange quark-quark interaction.By applying the auxiliary field and background field methods, the structureless pion limit is considered to extract effective pion and constituent quark couplings in the presence of a weak magnetic field. The leading terms of a large quark and gluon masses expansion are obtained by resolving effective coupling constants which turn out to depend on a weak magnetic field. Two pion field definitions are considered for that. Several relations between the effective coupling constants and parameters can be derived exactly or in the limit of very large quark mass at zero and weak constant magnetic field. Among these ratios, the Gell Mann Oakes Renner and the quark level Goldberger Treiman relations are obtained. In addition to that, in the pion sector, the leading terms of Chiral Perturbation Theory coupled to the electromagnetic field is recovered. Some numerical estimates are provided for the effective coupling constants and parameters.

SU(2) higher-order effective quark interactions from polarization

Higher order quark effective interactions are found for SU(2) flavor by departing from a non local quark-quark interaction. By integrating out a component of the quark field, the determinant is expanded in chirally symmetric and symmetry breaking effective interactions up to the fifh order in the quark bilinears. The resulting coupling constants are resolved in the leading order of the longwavelength limit and exact numerical ratios between several of these coupling constants are obtained in the large quark mass limit. In this level, chiral invariant interactions only show up in even powers of the quark bilinears, i.e. ${\cal O}(\barψ ψ)^{2 n}$ ($n=1,2,3,..$), whereas (explicit) chiral symmetry breaking terms emerge as ${\cal O}(\barψ ψ)^{n}$ being always proportional to some power of the Lagrangian quark mass.

Symmetry energy coefficients for asymmetric nuclear matter

Symmetry energy coefficients of asymmetric nuclear matter are investigated as the inverse of nuclear matter polarizabilities with two different approaches. Firstly a general calculation shows they may depend on the neutron-proton asymmetry itself. The choice of particular prescriptions for the density fluctuations lead to certain isospin (n-p asymmetry) dependences of the polarizabilities. Secondly, with Skyrme type interactions, the static limit of the dynamical polarizability is investigated corresponding to the inverse symmetry energy coefficient which assumes different values at different asymmetries (and densities and temperatures). The symmetry energy coefficient (in the isovector channel) is found to increase as n-p asymmetries increase. The spin symmetry energy coefficient is also briefly investigated.

Space-time evolution of the \lap model: classical and quantum aspects

A time dependent variational approach is used to derive the equations of motion for the λϕ^4 model. The simultaneous evolution of the quantum fluctuations and of the classical part of the field is considered in a lattice of 1+1 dimensions. Different initial conditions corresponding to non equilibrium situations are considered and evolved in time. Such high energy localized configurations expand in the lattice by ``bumps'' which may change with time. The quantum fluctuations make the peaks be smoother and the expansion faster.
