Fourier Analysis of Parametrized Interactive Quantum Classifiers

Interactive Quantum Classifiers (IQCs) constitute a family of quantum machine learning models inspired by open quantum systems, in which the interaction between a target qubit and an environment is described by a Hamiltonian. Previous works introduced alternative Hamiltonian parameterizations and showed empirically that they can improve classification performance, but the role of these parameters in the resulting classifier remains poorly understood. In this work, we derive a closed-form expression for the reduced quantum channel generated by a parametrized IQC with a single target qubit. The analytical solution explicitly reveals how the Hamiltonian parameters control the constant, sine, and cosine components of the classifier output, establishing a Fourier interpretation of the induced feature map. This analysis motivates a generalized family of Hamiltonian encodings, including matrix-parameterized environmental Hamiltonians whose Fourier components depend on linear combinations of input features, thereby enabling non-separable Fourier structures. Numerical experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets show that the proposed models can improve classification performance on several nonlinear benchmarks. The generalized matrix encoding achieves the strongest aggregate performance in the evaluated benchmark, while a simpler four-parameter extension often attains comparable performance with substantially fewer trainable parameters. We additionally characterize the generated state ensembles using the standard fidelity-based expressibility measure, finding that global expressibility does not directly predict classification performance. Our results provide an analytical characterization of parametrized Hamiltonians in Interactive Quantum Classifiers and establish Fourier analysis as a useful framework for understanding and designing open-system-inspired quantum learning models.

Generalized Gibbs Ensemble of 2D CFTs with U(1) Charge from the AGT Correspondence

The Generalized Gibbs Ensemble (GGE) is relevant to understand the thermalization of quantum systems with an infinite set of conserved charges. In this work, we analyze the GGE partition function of 2D Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) with a U(1) charge and quantum Benjamin-Ono$_{2}$ (qBO$_{2}$) hierarchy charges. We use the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa (AGT) correspondence to express the thermal trace in terms of the Alba-Fateev-Litvinov-Tarnopolskiy (AFLT) basis of descendants, which diagonalizes all charges. We analyze the GGE partition function in the thermodynamic semiclassical limit, including the first order quantum correction. We find that the equality between GGE averages and primary eigenvalues of the qBO$_{2}$ charges is attainable in the strict large $c$ limit and potentially violated at the subleading $1/c$ order. We also obtain the finite $c$ partition function when only the first non-trivial charge is turned on, expressed in terms of partial theta functions. Our results should be relevant to the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis for charged CFTs, Warped CFTs and effective field theory descriptions of condensed matter systems.

Lifshitz Scaling, Microstate Counting from Number Theory and Black Hole Entropy

Non-relativistic field theories with anisotropic scale invariance in (1+1)-d are typically characterized by a dispersion relation $E\sim k^{z}$ and dynamical exponent $z>1$. The asymptotic growth of the number of states of these theories can be described by an extension of Cardy formula that depends on $z$. We show that this result can be recovered by counting the partitions of an integer into $z$-th powers, as proposed by Hardy and Ramanujan a century ago. This gives a novel relationship between the characteristic energy of the dispersion relation with the cylinder radius and the ground state energy. For free bosons with Lifshitz scaling, this relationship is shown to be identically fulfilled by virtue of the reflection property of the Riemann $ζ$-function. The quantum Benjamin-Ono$_{2}$ (BO$_{2}$) integrable system, relevant in the AGT correspondence, is also analyzed. As a holographic realization, we provide a special set of boundary conditions for which the reduced phase space of Einstein gravity with a couple of $U(1)$ fields on AdS$_3$ is described by the BO$_{2}$ equations. This suggests that the phase space can be quantized in terms of quantum BO$_{2}$ states. Indeed, in the semiclassical limit, the ground state energy of BO$_{2}$ coincides with the energy of global AdS$_{3}$, and the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy for BTZ black holes is recovered from the anisotropic extension of Cardy formula.

Circuit Complexity of Knot States in Chern-Simons theory

We compute an upper bound on the circuit complexity of quantum states in $3d$ Chern-Simons theory corresponding to certain classes of knots. Specifically, we deal with states in the torus Hilbert space of Chern-Simons that are the knot complements on the $3$-sphere of arbitrary torus knots. These can be constructed from the unknot state by using the Hilbert space representation of the $S$ and $T$ modular transformations of the torus as fundamental gates. The upper bound is saturated in the semiclassical limit of Chern-Simons theory. The results are then generalized for a family of multi-component links that are obtained by "Hopf-linking" different torus knots. We also use the braid word presentation of knots to discuss states on the punctured sphere Hilbert space associated with 2-bridge knots and links. The calculations present interesting number theoretic features related with continued fraction representations of rational numbers. In particular, we show that the minimization procedure defining the complexity naturally leads to regular continued fractions, allowing a geometric interpretation of the results in the Farey tesselation of the upper-half plane. Finally, we relate our discussion to the framework of path integral optimization by generalizing the original argument to non-trivial topologies.

Kerr-de Sitter Quasinormal Modes via Accessory Parameter Expansion

Quasinormal modes are characteristic oscillatory modes that control the relaxation of a perturbed physical system back to its equilibrium state. In this work, we calculate QNM frequencies and angular eigenvalues of Kerr--de Sitter black holes using a novel method based on conformal field theory. The spin-field perturbation equations of this background spacetime essentially reduce to two Heun's equations, one for the radial part and one for the angular part. We use the accessory parameter expansion of Heun's equation, obtained via the isomonodromic $τ$-function, in order to find analytic expansions for the QNM frequencies and angular eigenvalues. The expansion for the frequencies is given as a double series in the rotation parameter $a$ and the extremality parameter $ε=(r_{C}-r_{+})/L$, where $L$ is the de Sitter radius and $r_{C}$ and $r_{+}$ are the radii of, respectively, the cosmological and event horizons. Specifically, we give the frequency expansion up to order $ε^2$ for general $a$, and up to order $ε^{3}$ with the coefficients expanded up to $(a/L)^{3}$. Similarly, the expansion for the angular eigenvalues is given as a series up to $(aω)^{3}$ with coefficients expanded for small $a/L$. We verify the new expansion for the frequencies via a numerical analysis and that the expansion for the angular eigenvalues agrees with results in the literature.

Classical Conformal Blocks and Accessory Parameters from Isomonodromic Deformations

Classical conformal blocks naturally appear in the large central charge limit of 2D Virasoro conformal blocks. In the $AdS_{3}/CFT_{2}$ correspondence, they are related to classical bulk actions and are used to calculate entanglement entropy and geodesic lengths. In this work, we discuss the identification of classical conformal blocks and the Painlevé VI action showing how isomonodromic deformations naturally appear in this context. We recover the accessory parameter expansion of Heun's equation from the isomonodromic $τ$-function. We also discuss how the $c = 1$ expansion of the $τ$-function leads to a novel approach to calculate the 4-point classical conformal block.

Kerr Scattering Coefficients via Isomonodromy

We study the scattering of a massless scalar field in a generic Kerr background. Using a particular gauge choice based on the current conservation of the radial equation, we give a generic formula for the scattering coefficient in terms of the composite monodromy parameter $σ$ between the inner and the outer horizons. Using the isomonodromy flow, we calculate $σ$ exactly in terms of the Painlevé V $τ$-function. We also show that the eigenvalue problem for the angular equation (spheroidal harmonics) can be calculated using the same techniques. We use recent developments relating the Painlevé V $τ$-function to Liouville irregular conformal blocks to claim that this scattering problem is solved in the combinatorial sense, with known expressions for the $τ$-function near the critical points.

Kerr-de Sitter Greybody Factors via Isomonodromy

Scattering data can be generically described in terms of monodromies. Here we obtain scattering amplitudes for conformally coupled scalar fields in Kerr-de Sitter black holes using this monodromy technique. The only non-trivial parameter, the composite monodromy parameter $σ_{ij}$ between two regular singular points, can be solved implicitily in terms of the Painlevé VI $τ$-function. The application of the Virasoro conformal blocks to solve the latter can now be interpreted as a verification of the striking relationship between conformal symmetry and black holes.

Wilson Loop Invariants from $W_N$ Conformal Blocks

Knot and link polynomials are topological invariants calculated from the expectation value of loop operators in topological field theories. In 3D Chern-Simons theory, these invariants can be found from crossing and braiding matrices of four-point conformal blocks of the boundary 2D CFT. We calculate crossing and braiding matrices for $W_N$ conformal blocks with one component in the fundamental representation and another in a rectangular representation of $SU(N)$, which can be used to obtain HOMFLY knot and link invariants for these cases. We also discuss how our approach can be generalized to invariants in higher-representations of $W_N$ algebra.

Holography as Cutoff: a proposal for measure of inflationary universes

We propose the holographic principle as a dynamical cutoff for any quantum theory of gravity with a geometric description at low energies, incorporating ideas of effective field theory. We illustrate the proposal by revisiting the problem of defining a measure for homogeneous and isotropic spacetimes coupled to a scalar field and conclude by discussing the implications to the inflationary model.

Isomonodromy, Painlevé Transcendents and Scattering off of Black Holes

We apply the method of isomonodromy to study the scattering of a generic Kerr-NUT-(A)dS black hole. For generic values of the charges, the problem is related to the connection problem of the Painlevé VI transcendent. We review a few facts about Painlevé VI, Garnier systems and the Hamiltonian structure of flat connections in the Riemann sphere. We then outline a method for computing the scattering amplitudes based on Hamilton-Jacobi structure of Painlevé, and discuss the implications of the generic result to black hole complementarity.
