Acoustic Black Holes from Abelian Higgs Model with Lorentz Symmetry Breaking

In this paper we derive acoustic black hole metrics in the (3+1) and (2+1)-dimensional Abelian Higgs model with Lorentz symmetry breaking. In this set up the sound waves lose the Lorentz boost invariance and suffer a 'birefringence' effect. We have found acoustic black holes and respective Hawking temperatures depending on the Lorentz violating parameter. Furthermore, we obtain an acoustic Kerr-like black hole metric with the Lorentz violating term affecting its rate of loss of mass. We also have shown that for suitable values of the Lorentz violating parameter a wider spectrum of particle wave function can be scattered with increased amplitude by the acoustic black hole.

Multi-scalar tachyon potential on non-BPS domain walls

We have considered the multi-scalar and multi-tachyon fields living on a 3d domain wall embedded in a 5d dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The effective action for such a domain wall can be found by integrating out the normal modes as vibrating modes around the domain wall solution of a truncated 5d supergravity action. The multi-scalar tachyon potential are good enough to modeling assisted inflation scenario with multi-tachyon fields. The tachyon condensation are also briefly addressed.

Lorentz-violating Chern-Simons action under high temperature in massless QED

Lorentz and CPT violating QED with massless fermions at finite temperature is studied. We show that there is no ambiguity in the induced coefficient of the Chern-Simons-like term that defines the so-called Carroll-Field-Jackiw model at high temperature. We also show that this system constitutes an example where the breaking of CPT and Lorentz symmetries is more severe at high temperature than in the zero temperature case thus precluding any naive expectations of Lorentz symmetry restoration.

Fermion states on domain wall junctions and the flavor number

In this paper we address the problem of localizing fermion states on stable domain walls junctions. The study focus on the consequences of intersecting six independent 8d domain walls to form 4d junctions in a ten-dimensional spacetime. This is related to the mechanism of relaxing to three space dimensions through the formation of domain wall junctions. The model is based on six bulk real scalar fields, the phi-4 model in its broken phase, the prototype of the Higgs field, and is such that the fermion and scalar modes bound to the domain walls are the zero mode and a single massive bound state, which can be regarded as a two level system, at least at sufficiently low energy. Inside the junction, we use the fact that some states are statistically more favored to address the possibility of constraining the flavor number of the elementary fermions.

Induced Chern-Simons-like action in Lorentz-violating massless QED

In the present work, we study different aspects of Lorentz and CPT symmetry violation in extended massless QED. By following the observation that the 2+1 dimensional Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory can be originated from the 3+1 dimensional Chern-Simons-like action, we also focus on the fermion sector to relate the 3+1 dimensional extended massless QED to 2+1 dimensional massive QED. We take advantage of this to state that the Chern-Simons-like action in extended massless QED can be induced with its coefficient being well defined and finite just as its 2+1 counterpart. We make use of three different regularization schemes by inducting the Chern-Simons-like in 3+1 dimensions to support this conjecture.

First-order framework and domain-wall/brane-cosmology correspondence

We address the possibility of finding domain wall solutions from cosmological solutions in brane cosmology. We find first-order equations for corresponding cosmology/domain wall solutions induced on 3-branes. The quadratic term of energy density in the induced Friedmann equation plays a non-standard role and we discuss the way the standard cosmological and domain wall models are recovered as the brane tension becomes large and show how they can be described by four-dimensional supergravity action in such a limit. Finally, we show that gravity on the 3-brane is locally localized as one moves away from the two-dimensional domain walls living on the brane.

The ambiguity-free four-dimensional Lorentz-breaking Chern-Simons action

The four dimensional Lorentz-breaking finite and determined Chern-Simons like action is generated as a one loop perturbative correction via an appropriate Lorentz-breaking coupling of the gauge field with the spinor field. Unlike the known schemes of calculations, within this scheme this term is found to be regularization independent.

Lorentz-CPT violation, radiative corrections and finite temperature

In this work we investigate the radiatively induced Chern-Simons-like terms in four-dimensions at zero and finite temperature. We use the approach of rationalizing the fermion propagator up to the leading order in the CPT-violating coupling $b_μ$. In this approach, we have shown that although the coefficient of Chern-Simons term can be found unambiguously in different regularization schemes at zero or finite temperature, it remains undetermined. We observe a correspondence among results obtained at finite and zero temperature.

Scalar fields, bent branes, and RG flow

This work deals with braneworld scenarios driven by real scalar fields with standard dynamics. We show how the first-order formalism which exists in the case of four dimensional Minkowski space-time can be extended to de Sitter or anti-de Sitter geometry in the presence of several real scalar fields. We illustrate the results with some examples, and we take advantage of our findings to investigate renormalization group flow. We have found symmetric brane solutions with four-dimensional anti-de Sitter geometry whose holographically dual field theory exhibits a weakly coupled regime at high energy.

Relaxing to a three dimensional brane junction

We suggest a mechanism which leads to 3+1 space-time dimensions. The Universe assumed to have nine spatial dimensions is regarded as a special nonlinear oscillatory system -- a kind of Einstein solid. There are p-brane solutions which manifest as phase oscillations separating different phase states. The presence of interactions allows for bifurcations of higher dimensional spaces to lower dimensional ones in the form of brane junctions. We argue this is a natural way to select lower dimensions.

Deforming tachyon kinks and tachyon potentials

In this paper we investigate deformation of tachyon potentials and tachyon kink solutions. We consider the deformation of a DBI type action with gauge and tachyon fields living on D1-brane and D3-brane world-volume. We deform tachyon potentials to get other consistent tachyon potentials by using properly a deformation function depending on the gauge field components. Resolutions of singular tachyon kinks via deformation and applications of deformed tachyon potentials to scalar cosmology scenario are discussed.

A Remark on Lorentz Violation at Finite Temperature

We investigate the radiatively induced Chern-Simons-like term in four-dimensional field theory at finite temperature. The Chern-Simons-like term is temperature dependent and breaks the Lorentz and CPT symmetries. We find that this term remains undetermined although it can be found unambiguously in different regularization schemes at finite temperature.

Tachyon condensation on brane sphalerons

We consider a sphaleron solution in field theory that provides a toy model for unstable D-branes of string theory. We investigate the tachyon condensation on a Dp-brane. The localized modes, including a tachyon, arise in the spectrum of a sphaleron solution of a ϕ^4 field theory on M^{p+1}\times S^1. We use these modes to find a multiscalar tachyon potential living on the sphaleron world-volume. A complete cancelation between brane tension and the minimum of the tachyon potential is found as the size of the circle becomes small.

Accelerating universes driven by bulk particles

We consider our universe as a 3d domain wall embedded in a 5d dimensional Minkowski space-time. We address the problem of inflation and late time acceleration driven by bulk particles colliding with the 3d domain wall. The expansion of our universe is mainly related to these bulk particles. Since our universe tends to be permeated by a large number of isolated structures, as temperature diminishes with the expansion, we model our universe with a 3d domain wall with increasing internal structures. These structures could be unstable 2d domain walls evolving to fermi-balls which are candidates to cold dark matter. The momentum transfer of bulk particles colliding with the 3d domain wall is related to the reflection coefficient. We show a nontrivial dependence of the reflection coefficient with the number of internal dark matter structures inside the 3d domain wall. As the population of such structures increases the velocity of the domain wall expansion also increases. The expansion is exponential at early times and polynomial at late times. We connect this picture with string/M-theory by considering BPS 3d domain walls with structures which can appear through the bosonic sector of a five-dimensional supergravity theory.

Confinement from new global defect structures

We investigate confinement from new global defect structures in three spatial dimensions. The global defects arise in models described by a single real scalar field, governed by special scalar potentials. They appear as electrically, magnetically or dyonically charged structures. We show that they induce confinement, when they are solutions of effective QCD-like field theories in which the vacua are regarded as color dielectric media with an anti-screening property. As expected, in three spatial dimensions the monopole-like global defects generate the Coulomb potential as part of several confining potentials.

Locally Localized Gravity and Geometric Transitions

In this paper we analyze the local localization of gravity in $AdS_4$ thick brane embedded in $AdS_5$ space. The 3-brane is modelled by domain wall solution of a theory with a bulk scalar field coupled to five-dimensional gravity. In addition to small four-dimensional cosmological constant, the vacuum expectation value (vev) of the scalar field controls the emergence of a localized four-dimensional quasi-zero mode. We introduce high temperature effects, and we show that gravity localization on a thick 3-brane is favored below a critical temperature $T_c$. These investigations suggest the appearance of another critical temperature $T_*,$ where the thick 3-brane engenders the geometric $AdS/M/dS$ transitions.

Supergravity brane worlds and tachyon potentials

We study massless and massive graviton modes that bind on thick branes which are supergravity domain walls solutions in $D$-dimensional supergravity theories where only the supergravity multiplet and the scalar supermultiplet are turned on. The domain walls are bulk solutions provided by tachyon potentials. Such domain walls are regarded as BPS branes of one lower dimension that are formed due to tachyon potentials on a non-BPS D-brane.

Noncommutative massive Thirring model in three-dimensional spacetime

We evaluate the noncommutative Chern-Simons action induced by fermions interacting with an Abelian gauge field in a noncommutative massive Thirring model in (2+1)-dimensional spacetime. This calculation is performed in the Dirac and Majorana representations. We observe that in Majorana representation when $θ$ goes to zero we do not have induced Chern-Simons term in the dimensional regularization scheme.
