Green's Functions of Recurrence Relations with Reflection

In this work we develop an algebraic theory of linear recurrence equations and systems with constant coefficients and reflection. We obtain explicit solutions and the Green's functions associated to different problems under general linear boundary conditions. Furthermore, we establish different relations between the algebras of recurrence and differential operators, showing the similarities and differences between them.

A Lipschitz condition along a transversal foliation implies local uniqueness for ODEs

We prove the following result: if a continuous vector field $F$ is Lipschitz when restricted to the hypersurfaces determined by a suitable foliation and a transversal condition is satisfied at the initial condition, then $F$ determines a locally unique integral curve. We also present some illustrative examples and sufficient conditions in order to apply our main result.

Green's Functions of Partial Differential Equations with Involutions

In this paper we develop a way of obtaining Green's functions for partial differential equations with linear involutions by reducing the equation to a higher-order PDE without involutions. The developed theory is applied to a model of heat transfer in a conducting plate which is bent in half.

Computation of Green's functions through algebraic decomposition of operators

In this article we use linear algebra to improve the computational time for the obtaining of Green's functions of linear differential equations with reflection (DER). This is achieved by decomposing both the `reduced' equation (the ODE associated to a given DER) and the corresponding two-point boundary conditions.

On Linear Differential Equations and Systems with Reflection

In this paper we develop a theory of linear differential systems analogous to the classical one for ODEs, including the obtaining of fundamental matrices, the development of a variation of parameters formula and the expression of the Green's functions. We also derive interesting results in the case of differential equations with reflection and generalize the Hyperbolic Phasor Addition Formula to the case of matrices.

Solutions of the first order linear equation with reflection and general linear conditions

This work is devoted to the study of first order linear problems with involution and general linear conditions. We first study the problem in the case of antiperiodic boundary conditions, giving an explicit Green's function for it. Then we move forward to more general linear boundary conditions, focusing on sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of solution. At the end of the paper we give estimates that ensure the positivity of the solution in the general problems and illustrate these applications with examples.

Solutions and Green's function of the first order linear equation with reflection and initial conditions

This work is devoted to the study of the existence and sign of Green's functions for first order linear problems with constant coefficients and initial (one point) conditions. We first prove a result on the existence of solutions of $n$-th order linear equations with involutions via some auxiliary functions to later prove a uniqueness result in the first order case. We study then different situations for which a Green's function can be obtained explicitly and derive several results in order to obtain information about the sign of the Green's function. Once the sign is known, optimal maximum and anti-maximum principles follow.

Existence results for a linear equation with reflection, non-constant coefficient and periodic boundary conditions

This work is devoted to the study of first order linear problems with involution and periodic boundary value conditions. We first prove a correspondence between a large set of such problems with different involutions to later focus our attention to the case of the reflection. We study then different cases for which a Green's function can be obtained explicitly and derive several results in order to obtain information about its sign. Once the sign is known, maximum and anti-maximum principles follow. We end this work with more general existence and uniqueness of solution results.

Comparison results for first order linear operators with reflection and periodic boundary value conditions

This work is devoted to the study of the first order operator $x'(t)+m\,x(-t)$ coupled with periodic boundary value conditions. We describe the eigenvalues of the operator and obtain the expression of its related Green's function in the non resonant case. We also obtain the range of the values of the real parameter $m$ for which the integral kernel, which provides the unique solution, has constant sign. In this way, we automatically establish maximum and anti-maximum principles for the equation. Some applications to the existence of nonlinear periodic boundary value problems are showed.

Existence of solutions of integral equations with asymptotic conditions

In this work we will consider integral equations defined on the whole real line and look for solutions which satisfy some certain kind of asymptotic behavior. To do that, we will define a suitable Banach space which, to the best of our knowledge, has never been used before. In order to obtain fixed points of the integral operator, we will consider the fixed point index theory and apply it to this new Banach space.

A hyperbolic analog of the phasor addition formula

In this article we review the basics of the phasor formalism in a rigorous way, highlighting the physical motivation behind it and presenting a hyperbolic counterpart of the phasor addition formula.

Green's functions for reducible functional differential equations

In this work we study differential problems in which the reflection operator and the Hilbert transform are involved. We reduce these problems to ODEs in order to solve them. Also, we describe a general method for obtaining the Green's function of reducible functional differential equations and illustrate it with the case of homogeneous boundary value problems with reflection and several specific examples.

Fixed points of Hammerstein-type equations on general cones

We obtain new results on the existence and multiplicity of fixed points of Hammerstein equations in very general cones. In order to achieve this, we combine a new formulation of cones in terms of continuous functionals with fixed point index theory. Many examples and an application to boundary value problems are also included.

Nonlinear perturbed integral equations related to nonlocal boundary value problems

By topological arguments, we prove new results on the existence, non-existence, localization and multiplicity of nontrivial solutions of a class of perturbed nonlinear integral equations. These type of integral equations arise, for example, when dealing with boundary value problems where nonlocal terms occur in the differential equation and/or in the boundary conditions. Some examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.
