Generalization of the matrix product ansatz for integrable chains

We present a general formulation of the matrix product ansatz for exactly integrable chains on periodic lattices. This new formulation extends the matrix product ansatz present on our previous articles (F. C. Alcaraz and M. J. Lazo J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 37 (2004) L1-L7 and J. Phys. A: Math. Entanglement and Quantum Phases in the Anisotropic Ferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain in the Presence of Domain Walls

We discuss entanglement in the spin-1/2 anisotropic ferromagnetic Heisenberg chain in the presence of a boundary magnetic field generating domain walls. By increasing the magnetic field, the model undergoes a first-order quantum phase transition from a ferromagnetic to a kink-type phase, which is associated to a jump in the content of entanglement available in the system. Above the critical point, pairwise entanglement is shown to be non-vanishing and independent of the boundary magnetic field for large chains. Based on this result, we provide an analytical expression for the entanglement between arbitrary spins. Moreover the effects of the quantum domains on the gapless region and for antiferromagnetic anisotropy are numerically analysed. Finally multiparticle entanglement properties are considered, from which we establish a characterization of the critical anisotropy separating the gapless regime from the kink-type phase.

New conjecture for the $SU_q(N)$ Perk-Schultz models

We present a new conjecture for the $SU_q(N)$ Perk-Schultz models. This conjecture extends a conjecture presented in our article (Alcaraz FC and Stroganov YuG (2002) J. Phys. A vol. 35 pg. 6767-6787, and also in cond-mat/0204074).

Exact solutions of exactly integrable quantum chains by a matrix product ansatz

Most of the exact solutions of quantum one-dimensional Hamiltonians are obtained thanks to the success of the Bethe ansatz on its several formulations. According to this ansatz the amplitudes of the eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonian are given by a sum of permutations of appropriate plane waves. In this paper, alternatively, we present a matrix product ansatz that asserts that those amplitudes are given in terms of a matrix product. The eigenvalue equation for the Hamiltonian define the algebraic properties of the matrices defining the amplitudes. The existence of a consistent algebra imply the exact integrability of the model. The matrix product ansatz we propose allow an unified and simple formulation of several exact integrable Hamiltonians. In order to introduce and illustrate this ansatz we present the exact solutions of several quantum chains with one and two global conservation laws and periodic boundaries such as the XXZ chain, spin-1 Fateev-Zamolodchikov model, Izergin-Korepin model, Sutherland model, t-J model, Hubbard model, etc. Formulation of the matrix product ansatz for quantum chains with open ends is also possible. As an illustration we present the exact solution of an extended XXZ chain with $z$-magnetic fields at the surface and arbitrary hard-core exclusion among the spins.

The Bethe ansatz as a matrix product ansatz

The Bethe ansatz in its several formulations is the common tool for the exact solution of one dimensional quantum Hamiltonians. This ansatz asserts that the several eigenfunctions of the Hamiltonians are given in terms of a sum of permutations of plane waves. We present results that induce us to expect that, alternatively, the eigenfunctions of all the exact integrable quantum chains can also be expressed by a matrix product ansatz. In this ansatz the several components of the eigenfunctions are obtained through the algebraic properties of properly defined matrices. This ansatz allows an unified formulation of several exact integrable Hamiltonians. We show how to formulate this ansatz for a huge family of quantum chains like the anisotropic Heisenberg model, Fateev-Zamolodchikov model, Izergin-Korepin model, $t-J$ model, Hubbard model, etc.

Phase diagram of a coupled tetrahedral Heisenberg model

The phase diagram of a coupled tetrahedral Heisenberg model is obtained. The quantum chain has a local gauge symmetry and its eigenspectrum is obtained by the composition of the eigenspectra of spin-1/2 XXZ chains with arbitrary distribution of spin-3/2 impurities. The phase diagram is quite rich with an infinite number of phases with ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic order. In some cases the ground state and the low lying eigenlevels of the model can be exactly calculated since they coincide with the eigenlevels of the exactly integrable XXZ chain. The thermodynamical properties of the model at low temperatures is also studied through finite-size analysis.

The Wave Functions for the Free-Fermion Part of the Spectrum of the $SU_q(N)$ Quantum Spin Models

We conjecture that the free-fermion part of the eigenspectrum observed recently for the $SU_q(N)$ Perk-Schultz spin chain Hamiltonian in a finite lattice with $q=\exp (iπ(N-1)/N)$ is a consequence of the existence of a special simple eigenvalue for the transfer matrix of the auxiliary inhomogeneous $SU_q(N-1)$ vertex model which appears in the nested Bethe ansatz approach. We prove that this conjecture is valid for the case of the SU(3) spin chain with periodic boundary condition. In this case we obtain a formula for the components of the eigenvector of the auxiliary inhomogeneous 6-vertex model ($q=\exp (2 i π/3)$), which permit us to find one by one all components of this eigenvector and consequently to find the eigenvectors of the free-fermion part of the eigenspectrum of the SU(3) spin chain. Similarly as in the known case of the $SU_q(2)$ case at $q=\exp(i2π/3)$ our numerical and analytical studies induce some conjectures for special rates of correlation functions.

Free fermion branches in some quantum spin models

Extensive numerical analysis of the eigenspectra of the $SU_q(N)$ invariant Perk-Schultz Hamiltonian shows some simple regularities for a significant part of the eigenspectrum. Inspired by those results we have found two set of solutions of the associated nested Bethe-ansatz equations. The first set is obtained at a special value of the anisotropy ($q = \exp(i2π(N-1)/N)$) and describes in particular the ground state and nearby excitations as a sum of free-fermion quasienergies. The second set of solutions provides the energies in the sectors whose number $n_i$ of particles of distinct species ($i =0, >..., N-1$) are less or equal to the unity except for one of the species. For this last set we obtain the eigenspectra of a free fermion model for arbitrary values of the anisotropy.

The Finite Size SU(3) Perk-Schultz Model with Deformation Parameter q=exp(i 2 pi/3)

From extensive numeric diagonalizations of the SU(3) Perk-Schultz Hamiltonian with a special value of the anisotropy and different boundary conditions, we have observed simple regularities for a significant part of its eigenspectrum. In particular the ground state energy and nearby excitations belong to this part of the spectrum. Our simple formulae describing these regularities remind, apart from some selection rules, the eigenspectrum of the free fermion model. Based on the numerical observations we formulate several conjectures. Using explicit solutions of the associated nested Bethe-ansatz equations, guessed from an analysis of the functional equations of the model, we provide evidence for a part of them.

Correspondence between the XXZ model in roots of unity and the one-dimensional quantum Ising chain with different boundary conditions

We consider the integrable XXZ model with special open boundary conditions that renders its Hamiltonian ${SU(2)}_q$ symmetric, and the one-dimensional quantum Ising model with four different boundary conditions. We show that for each boundary condition the Ising quantum chain is exactly given by the Minimal Model of integrable lattice theory $LM(3, 4)$. This last theory is obtained as the result of the quantum group reduction of the XXZ model at anisotropy $Δ=(q + q^{-1})/2=\sqrt{2}/2$, with a number of sites in the latter defined by the type of boundary conditions.

Frontier between separability and quantum entanglement in a many spin system

We discuss the critical point $x_c$ separating the quantum entangled and separable states in two series of N spins S in the simple mixed state characterized by the matrix operator $ρ=x|\tildeϕ><\tildeϕ| + \frac{1-x}{D^N} I_{D^N}$ where $x \in [0,1]$, $D =2S+1$, ${\bf I}_{D^N}$ is the $D^N \times D^N$ unity matrix and $|\tilde ϕ>$ is a special entangled state. The cases x=0 and x=1 correspond respectively to fully random spins and to a fully entangled state. In the first of these series we consider special states $|\tildeϕ>$ invariant under charge conjugation, that generalizes the N=2 spin S=1/2 Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state, and in the second one we consider generalizations of the Weber density matrices. The evaluation of the critical point $x_c$ was done through bounds coming from the partial transposition method of Peres and the conditional nonextensive entropy criterion. Our results suggest the conjecture that whenever the bounds coming from both methods coincide the result of $x_c$ is the exact one. The results we present are relevant for the discussion of quantum computing, teleportation and cryptography.

Exact Solution of Asymmetric Diffusion With N Classes of Particles of Arbitrary Size and Hierarchical Order

The exact solution of the asymmetric exclusion problem with N distinct classes of particles (c = 1,2,...,N), with hierarchical order is presented. In this model the particles (size 1) are located at lattice points, and diffuse with equal asymmetric rates, but particles in a class c do not distinguish those in the classes c' >c from holes (empty sites). We generalize and solve exactly this model by considering the molecules in each distinct class c =1,2,...,N with sizes s_c (s_c = 0,1,2,...), in units of lattice spacing. The solution is derived by a Bethe ansatz of nested type.

Valence bond ground states in quantum antiferromagnets and quadratic algebras

The wave functions corresponding to the zero energy eigenvalue of a one-dimensional quantum chain Hamiltonian can be written in a simple way using quadratic algebras. Hamiltonians describing stochastic processes have stationary states given by such wave functions and various quadratic algebras were found and applied to several diffusions processes. We show that similar methods can also be applied for equilibrium processes. As an example, for a class of q-deformed O(N) symmetric antiferromagnetic quantum chains, we give the zero energy wave functions for periodic boundary conditions corresponding to momenta zero and $π$. We also consider free and various non-diagonal boundary conditions and give the corresponding wave functions. All correlation lengths are derived.

Integrable model of interacting XX and Fateev-Zamolodchikov chains

We consider the exact solution of a model of correlated particles, which is presented as a system of interacting XX and Fateev-Zamolodchikov chains. This model can also be considered as a generalization of the multiband anisotropic $t-J$ model in the case we restrict the site occupations to at most two electrons. The exact solution is obtained for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors using the Bethe-ansatz method.

The exact solution is obtained for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors for two models of strongly correlated particles with single-particle correlated and uncorrelated pair hoppings. The asymptotic behavior of correlation functions are analysed in different regions, where the models exhibit different physical behavior.

Exact Solution of the Asymmetric Exclusion Model with Particles of Arbitrary Size

A generalization of the simple exclusion asymmetric model is introduced. In this model an arbitrary mixture of molecules with distinct sizes $s = 0,1,2,...$, in units of lattice space, diffuses asymmetrically on the lattice. A related surface growth model is also presented. Variations of the distribution of molecules's sizes may change the excluded volume almost continuously. We solve the model exactly through the Bethe ansatz and the dynamical critical exponent $z$ is calculated from the finite-size corrections of the mass gap of the related quantum chain. Our results show that for an arbitrary distribution of molecules the dynamical critical behavior is on the Kardar-Parizi-Zhang (KPZ) universality.

An Exactly Solvable Constrained XXZ Chain

A new family of exactly solvable models is introduced. These models are generalizations of the XXZ chain where the distance among spins up ($σ^z$-basis) cannot be smaller or equal to t (t=0,1,2,...). The case t=0 recovers the standard XXZ chain. The coordinate Bethe ansatz is applied and the phase diagram is calculated. Exploring the finite-size consequences of conformal invariance the critical exponents are evaluated exactly at the critical regions of the phase diagram
