Domain walls in Horndeski gravity

The Horndeski gravity yields domain wall solutions that connect asymmetric vacua for a certain region of parameters. In the thin wall limit there exist BPS domain walls that connect stable vacua. That is, the false vacua in this theory follows the same effect obtained in supergravity vacua, i.e., it does not decay according to Coleman-de Luccia theory and the BPS solutions interpolating different vacua, e.g., non-degenerate AdS vacua, are static infinite planar domain walls separating vacua associated with different spacetimes.

Braneworlds in Horndeski gravity

In this paper we address the issue of finding braneworld solutions in a five-dimensional Horndeski gravity and the mechanism of gravity localization into the brane via ``almost massless modes'' for suitable values of the Horndeski parameters. We compute the corrections to the Newtonian potential and discuss the limit where four-dimensional gravity is recovered.

Entanglement Entropy in Horndeski Gravity

In this work, we explore the holographic entanglement entropy with an infinite strip region of the boundary in Horndeski gravity. In our prescription we consider the spherically and planar topologies black holes in the AdS$_{4}$/CFT$_{3}$ scenario. In such framework, we show the behavior of the entanglement entropy in function of the Horndeski parameters. Such parameters modify the information store of subsystem A, especially when the parameter $γ$ increases the information about the subsystem will also increase or decrease when it decreases. Thus, with this scheme we compute the first law of entanglement thermodynamics in Horndeski gravity and we show that a very small subsystem obeys the analogous property of the first law of thermodynamics if we excite the system.

Complexity of four-dimensional hairy Anti-de-Sitter black holes with a rotating string and shear viscosity in generalized scalar-tensor theories

In four dimensions, we consider a generalized scalar-tensor theory where the coupling functions only depend on the kinetic term of the scalar field. For this model, we obtain a set of hairy Anti-de-Sitter black hole solutions, allowing us to calculate the computational complexity, according to the Complexity equals Action conjecture. To perform this, the system contains a particle moving on the boundary, corresponding to the insertion of a fundamental string in the bulk. The effect string is given by the Nambu-Goto term, analyzing the time development of this system. Together with the above, we calculate the shear viscosity, where the viscosity/entropy density ratio can violate the Kovtun-Son-Starinets bound for a suitable choice of coupling functions.

A domain wall description of brane inflation and observational aspects

We consider a brane cosmology scenario by taking an inflating 3D domain wall immersed in a five-dimensional Minkowski space in the presence of a stack of $N$ parallel domain walls. They are static BPS solutions of the bosonic sector of a 5D supergravity theory. However, one can move towards each other due to an attractive force in between driven by bulk particle collisions and {\it resonant tunneling effect}. The accelerating domain wall is a 3-brane that is assumed to be our inflating early Universe. We analyze this inflationary phase governed by the inflaton potential induced on the brane. We compute the slow-roll parameters and show that the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio are within the recent observational data.

Rotating black hole with a probe string in Horndeski Gravity

In this work, we present the effect of a probe string on the complexity of a black hole according to the CA (Complexity equals action) conjecture on Horndeski's gravity. In our system, we consider a particle moving on the boundary of black hole spacetime in ($2+1$)-dimensions. To obtain a dual description, we need to insertion a fundamental string on the bulk spacetime. The effect of this string is given by the Nambu-Goto term. For the Nambu-Goto term, we can analyze the time development of this system, which is affected by the parameters of Horndeski's gravity. In our case, we show some interesting complexity properties for this gravity.

Black branes in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime and viscosity/entropy ratios in Horndeski gravity

We investigate black brane solutions in asymptotically Lifshitz spacetime in 3+1-dimensional Horndeski gravity, which admit a critical exponent fixed at $z=1/2$. The cosmological constant depends on $z$ as $Λ=-(1+2z)/L^{2}$. We compute the shear viscosity in the 2+1-dimensional dual boundary field theory via holographic correspondence. We investigate the violation of the bound for viscosity to entropy density ratio of $η/s\geq1/(4π)$ at $z=1/2$.

Modeling dark sector in Horndeski gravity at first-order formalism

We investigate a cosmological scenario by finding solutions using first-order formalism in the Horndeski gravity that constrains the superpotential and implies that no free choice of scalar potential is allowed. Despite this we show that a de Sitter phase at late-time cosmology can be realized, where the dark energy sector can be identified. The scalar field equation of state tends to the cosmological scenario at present time and allows us to conclude that it can simulate the dark energy in the Horndeski gravity.

Harmonic oscillators from displacement operators and thermodynamics

In this investigation, the displacement operator is revisited. We established a connection between the Hermitian version of this operator with the well-known Weyl ordering. Besides, we characterized the quantum properties of a simple displaced harmonic oscillator, as well as of a displaced anisotropic two-dimensional non-Hermitian harmonic oscillator. By constructing the partition functions for both harmonic oscillators, we were able to derive several thermodynamic quantities from their energy spectra. The features of these quantities were depicted and analyzed in details.
