Adiabatic transport of Bose-Einstein condensate in double-well trap

A complete irreversible adiabatic transport of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in a double-well trap is investigated within the mean field approximation. The transfer is driven by time-dependent (Gaussian) coupling between the wells and their relative detuning. The protocol successfully works in a wide range of both repulsive and attractive BEC interaction. The nonlinear effects caused by the interaction can be turned from detrimental into favorable for the transport. The results are compared with familiar Landau-Zener scenarios using the constant coupling. It is shown that the pulsed Gaussian coupling provides a new transport regime where coupling edges are decisive and convenient switch of the transport is possible.

STIRAP transport of Bose-Einstein condensate in triple-well trap

The irreversible transport of multi-component Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is investigated within the Stimulated Adiabatic Raman Passage (STIRAP) scheme. A general formalism for a single BEC in M-well trap is derived and analogy between multi-photon and tunneling processes is demonstrated. STIRAP transport of BEC in a cyclic triple-well trap is explored for various values of detuning and interaction between BEC atoms. It is shown that STIRAP provides a complete population transfer at zero detuning and interaction and persists at their modest values. The detuning is found not to be obligatory. The possibility of non-adiabatic transport with intuitive order of couplings is demonstrated. Evolution of the condensate phases and generation of dynamical and geometric phases are inspected. It is shown that STIRAP allows to generate the unconventional geometrical phase which is now of a keen interest in quantum computing.

Adiabatic Transport of Bose-Einstein Condensate in Double- and Triple-Well Traps

By using a close similarity between multi-photon and tunneling population transfer schemes, we propose robust adiabatic methods for the transport of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in double- and triple-well traps. The calculations within the mean-field approximation (Gross-Pitaevskii equation) show that irreversible and complete transport takes place even in the presence of the non-linear effects caused by interaction between BEC atoms. The transfer is driven by adiabatic time-dependent monitoring the barriers and well depths. The proposed methods are universal and can be applied to a variety of systems and scenarios.

Orbital magnetism in axially deformed sodium clusters: From scissors mode to dia-para magnetic anisotropy

Low-energy orbital magnetic dipole excitations, known as scissors mode (SM), are studied in alkali metal clusters. Subsequent dynamic and static effects are explored. The treatment is based on a self-consistent microscopic approach using the jellium approximation for the ionic background and the Kohn-Sham mean field for the electrons. The microscopic origin of SM and its main features (structure of the mode in light and medium clusters, separation into low- and high-energy plasmons, coupling high-energy M1 scissors and E2 quadrupole plasmons, contributions of shape isomers, etc) are discussed. The scissors M1 strength acquires large values with increasing cluster size. The mode is responsible for the van Vleck paramagnetism of spin-saturated clusters. Quantum shell effects induce a fragile interplay between Langevin diamagnetism and van Vleck paramagnetism and lead to a remarkable dia-para anisotropy in magnetic susceptibility of particular light clusters. Finally, several routes for observing the SM experimentally are discussed.

Quons Restricted to the Antisymmetric Subspace: Formalism and Applications

In this work we develop a formalism to treat quons restricted to the antisymmetric part of their many-body space. A model in which a system of identical quons interact through a pairing force is then solved within this restriction and the differences between our solution and the usual fermionic model solution are then presented and discussed in detail. Possible connections to physical systems are also considered.

Twist Mode in Spherical Alkali Metal Clusters

A remarkable orbital quadrupole magnetic resonance, so-called twist mode, is predicted in alkali metal clusters where it is represented by $I^π=2^-$ low-energy excitations of valence electrons with strong M2 transitions to the ground state. We treat the twist by both macroscopic and microscopic ways. In the latter case, the shell structure of clusters is fully exploited, which is crucial for the considered size region ($8\le N_e\le 1314$). The energy-weighted sum rule is derived for the pseudo-Hamiltonian. In medium and heavy spherical clusters the twist dominates over its spin-dipole counterpart and becomes the most strong multipole magnetic mode.

Orbital Magnetic Dipole Mode in Deformed Clusters: A Fully Microscopic Analysis

The orbital M1 collective mode predicted for deformed clusters in a schematic model is studied in a self-consistent random-phase-approximation approach which fully exploits the shell structure of the clusters. The microscopic mechanism of the excitation is clarified and the close correlation with E2 mode established. The study shows that the M1 strength of the mode is fragmented over a large energy interval. In spite of that, the fraction remaining at low energy, well below the overwhelming dipole plasmon resonance, is comparable to the strength predicted in the schematic model. The importance of this result in view of future experiments is stressed.

Quons as su(2) Irreducible Tensor Operators

We prove that, for the quon algebra, which interpolates between the Bose and Fermi statistics and depends on a free parameter q,it is possible to build an su(2) irreducible representation. One of the consequences of this fact is that the quons couple via the same angular momentum coupling rules obeyed by ordinary bosons and fermions.

A Variety of Giant Resonances in Metal Clusters

Multipole electric and magnetic giant resonances in metal clusters are reviewed and compared with their counterparts in atomic nuclei. The main attention is paid to E1 resonance (dipole plasmon).

q- Deformed Boson Expansions

A deformed boson mapping of the Marumori type is derived for an underlying $su(2)$ algebra. As an example, we bosonize a pairing hamiltonian in a two level space, for which an exact treatment is possible. Comparisons are then made between the exact result, our q- deformed boson expansion and the usual non - deformed expansion.
