Coupled channel approach to the structure of the X(3872)

We have performed a coupled channel calculation of the $1^{++}$ $c\bar c$ sector including $q\bar q$ and $DD^*$ molecular configurations. The calculation was done within a constituent quark model which successfully describes the meson spectrum, in particular the $c\bar c$ $1^{--}$ sector. Two and four quark configurations are coupled using the $^3P_0$ model. The elusive X(3872) meson appears as a new state with a high probability for the $DD^*$ molecular component. When the mass difference between neutral and charged states is included a large $D^0 {D^*}^0$ component is found which dominates for large distances and breaks isospin symmetry in the physical state. The original $c\bar c(2 ^3P_1)$ state acquires a sizable $DD^*$ component and can be identified with the X(3940). We study the $B\to K π^+ π^-J/ψ$ and $B\to K D^0 D^{*0}$ decays finding a good agreement with Belle and BaBar experimental data.

A multiquark description of the $D_{sJ}(2860)$ and $D_{sJ}(2700)$

Within a theoretical framework that accounts for all open-charm mesons, including the $D_0^*(2308)$, the $D_{sJ}^*(2317)$ and the $D_{sJ}(2460)$, we analyze the structure and explore possible quantum number assignments for the $D_{sJ}(2860)$ and the $D_{sJ}(2700)$ mesons reported by BABAR and Belle Collaborations. The open-charm sector is properly described if considered as a combination of conventional quark-antiquark states and four--quark components. All negative parity and $2^+$ states can be understood in terms only of $q\bar q$ components, however the description of the $0^+$ and $1^+$ mesons is improved whenever the mixing between two-- and four--quarks configurations is included. We analyze all possible quantum number assignments for the $D_{sJ}(2860)$ in terms of both $c\bar s$ and $cn\bar s\bar n$ configurations. We discuss the role played by the electromagnetic and strong decay widths as basic tools to distinguish among them. The broad structure reported by BABAR near 2.7 GeV is also analyzed.

B meson spectroscopy

We study the $B$ meson spectroscopy allowing the mixture of conventional $P$ wave quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. A similar picture was used to describe the new $D_J$ and $D_{sJ}$ open charm mesons. The four-quark components shift the masses of some positive parity $B_{sJ}$ states below their corresponding isospin preserving two-meson threshold and therefore they are expected to be narrow. Electromagnetic decay widths are analyzed.

Self-adaptive Gossip Policies for Distributed Population-based Algorithms

Gossipping has demonstrate to be an efficient mechanism for spreading information among P2P networks. Within the context of P2P computing, we propose the so-called Evolvable Agent Model for distributed population-based algorithms which uses gossipping as communication policy, and represents every individual as a self-scheduled single thread. The model avoids obsolete nodes in the population by defining a self-adaptive refresh rate which depends on the latency and bandwidth of the network. Such a mechanism balances the migration rate to the congestion of the links pursuing global population coherence. We perform an experimental evaluation of this model on a real parallel system and observe how solution quality and algorithm speed scale with the number of processors with this seamless approach.

Understanding open-charm mesons

We present a theoretical framework that accounts for the new $D_J$ and $D_{sJ}$ mesons measured in the open-charm sector. These resonances are properly described if considered as a mixture of conventional $P-$wave quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. The narrowest states are basically $P-$wave quark-antiquark mesons, while the dominantly four-quark states are shifted above the corresponding two-meson threshold. We study the electromagnetic decay widths as basic tools to scrutiny their nature.

Open-charm meson spectroscopy

We present a theoretical framework that accounts for the new $D_J$ and $D_{sJ}$ mesons measured in the open-charm sector. These resonances are properly described if considered as a mixture of conventional $P-$wave quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. The narrowest states are basically $P-$wave quark-antiquark mesons, while the dominantly four-quark states are shifted above the corresponding two-meson threshold, being broad resonances. We study the electromagnetic decay widths as basic tools to scrutiny their nature. The proposed explanation incorporates in a natural way the most recently discovered mesons in charmonium spectroscopy.

Constraints on the time-scale of nuclear breakup from thermal hard-photon emission

Measured hard photon multiplicities from second-chance nucleon-nucleon collisions are used in combination with a kinetic thermal model, to estimate the break-up times of excited nuclear systems produced in nucleus-nucleus reactions at intermediate energies. The obtained nuclear break-up time for the $^{129}${Xe} + $^{nat}${Sn} reaction at 50{\it A} MeV is $Δ$$τ$ $\approx$ 100 -- 300 fm/$c$ for all reaction centralities. The lifetime of the radiating sources produced in seven other different heavy-ion reactions studied by the TAPS experiment are consistent with $Δ$$τ$ $\approx$ 100 fm/$c$, such relatively long thermal photon emission times do not support the interpretation of nuclear breakup as due to a fast spinodal process for the heavy nuclear systems studied.

Nature of the light scalar mesons

Despite the apparent simplicity of meson spectroscopy, light scalar mesons cannot be accommodated in the usual $q\bar q$ structure. We study the description of the scalar mesons below 2 GeV in terms of the mixing of a chiral nonet of tetraquarks with conventional $q\bar q$ states. A strong diquark-antidiquark component is found for several states. The consideration of a glueball as dictated by quenched lattice QCD drives a coherent picture of the isoscalar mesons.

Constituent quark model study of the meson spectra

The $q\bar q$ spectrum is studied in a generalized constituent quark model constrained in the study of the $NN$ phenomenology and the baryon spectrum. An overall good fit to the available experimental data is obtained. A detailed analysis of all sectors from the light-pseudoscalar and vector mesons to bottomonium is performed paying special attention to the existence and nature of some non well-established states. These results should serve as a complementary tool in distinguishing conventional quark model mesons from glueballs, hybrids or multiquark states.

Quark-model study of few-baryon systems

We review the application of non-relativistic constituent quark models to study one, two and three non-strange baryon systems. We present results for the baryon spectra, potentials and observables of the NN, N$Δ$, $ΔΔ$ and NN$^*(1440)$ systems, and also for the binding energies of three non-strange baryon systems. We make emphasis on observable effects related to quark antisymmetry and its interplay with quark dynamics.

The meson spectra beyond a $q\bar q$ description

Despite the apparent simplicity of meson spectroscopy there are some states which cannot be accommodated in the usual $q\bar q$ structure. Among them there are either exotic states as the X(1600), or the recently measured charmed states $D_{sJ}^*$ and some of the light scalar mesons. We present a description of the light scalar mesons in terms of $q\bar q$ and $qq\bar q\bar q$ components.

Spectroscopy of doubly charmed baryons

We study the mass spectrum of baryons with two and three charmed quarks. For double charm baryons the spin splitting is found to be smaller than standard quark-model potential predictions. This splitting is not influenced either by the particular form of the confining potential or by the regularization taken for the contact term of the spin-spin potential. We consistently predict the spectra for triply charmed baryons.

Towards the understanding of the meson spectra

We present a quark-quark interaction for the complete study of the meson spectra, from the light to the heavy sector. We compare the quark model predictions against well-established $q\bar q$ experimental data. This allows to identify discrepancies between quark model results and experiment that may signal physics beyond conventional hadron spectroscopy.

Describing non-$q\bar q$ candidates

Despite the apparent simplicity of meson spectroscopy there are some states which cannot be accommodated in the usual $q\bar q$ structure. Among them there are either exotic states as the X(1600) or the recently measured charm states $D_{sJ}^*$ and X(3872) and some of the light scalar mesons. In this work we present a possible description of these states in terms of tetraquarks.

A microscopic NN to NN*(1440) potential

By means of a NN to NN*(1440) transition potential derived in a parameter-free way from a quark-model based NN potential, we determine simultaneously the $πNN^*(1440)$ and $σNN^*(1440)$ coupling constants. We also present a study of the target Roper excitation diagram contributing to the $p(d,d')$ reaction.

The ${q}\bar{q}$ spectra and the structure of the scalar mesons

The ${q}\bar{q}$ spectrum is studied within a chiral constituent quark model. It provides with a good fit of the available experimental data from light (vector and pseudoscalar) to heavy mesons including some recent results on charmonium. The $0^{++}$ light mesons and the new $D$ states measured at different factories cannot be described as $q\bar q$ pairs and a tetraquark structure is suggested.

Tetraquarks in a chiral constituent quark model

We analyze the possibility of heavy-light tetraquark bound states by means of a chiral constituent quark model. The study is done in a variational approach. Special attention is paid to the contribution given by the different terms of the interacting potential and also to the role played by the different color channels. We find a stable state for both $qq\bar{c}\bar{c}$ and $qq\bar{b}\bar{b}$ configurations. Possible decay modes of these structures are analyzed.
