Space-like asymptotics of the thermal two-point functions of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain

This work proposes a closed formula for the leading term of the long-distance and large-time asymptotics in a cone of the space-like regime for the transverse dynamical two-point functions of the XXZ spin 1/2 chain at finite temperatures. The result follows from a simple analysis of the thermal form factor series for dynamical correlation functions. The leading asymptotics we obtain are driven by the Bethe Ansatz data associated with the first sub-leading Eigenvalue of the quantum transfer matrix.

Oscillator versus prefundamental representations II. Arbitrary higher ranks

We find the $\ell$-weights and the $\ell$-weight vectors for the highest $\ell$-weight $q$-oscillator representations of the positive Borel subalgebra of the quantum loop algebra $U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_{l+1}))$ for arbitrary values of $l$. Having this, we establish the explicit relationship between the $q$-oscillator and prefundamental representations. Our consideration allows us to conclude that the prefundamental representations can be obtained by tensoring $q$-oscillator representations.

Anisotropic magnetic interactions and spin dynamics in the spin-chain compound Cu(py)$_2$Br$_2$: An experimental and theoretical study

We compare theoretical results for electron spin resonance (ESR) properties of the Heisenberg-Ising Hamiltonian with ESR experiments on the quasi-one-dimensional magnet Cu(py)$_2$Br$_2$ (CPB). Our measurements were performed over a wide frequency and temperature range giving insight into spin dynamics, spin structure, and magnetic anisotropy of this compound. By analyzing the angular dependence of ESR parameters (resonance shift and linewidth) at room temperature we show that the two weakly coupled inequivalent spin chain types inside the compound are well described by Heisenberg-Ising chains with their magnetic anisotropy axes perpendicular to the chain direction and almost perpendicular to each other. We further determine the full $g$-tensor from these data. In addition, the angular dependence of the linewidth at high temperatures gives us access to the exponent of the algebraic decay of a dynamical correlation function of the isotropic Heisenberg chain. From the temperature dependence of static susceptibilities we extract the strength of the exchange coupling ($J/k_B = 52.0\,\text{K}$) and the anisotropy parameter ($δ\approx -0.02$) of the model Hamiltonian. An independent compatible value of $δ$ is obtained by comparing the exact prediction for the resonance shift at low temperatures with high-frequency ESR data recorded at $4\,\text{K}$. The spin structure in the ordered state implied by the two (almost) perpendicular anisotropy axes is in accordance with the propagation vector determined from neutron scattering experiments. In addition to undoped samples we study the impact of partial substitution of Br by Cl ions on spin dynamics. From the dependence of the ESR linewidth on doping level we infer an effective decoupling of the anisotropic component $Jδ$ from the isotropic exchange $J$ in these systems.

Oscillator versus prefundamental representations

For the case of quantum loop algebras $\mathrm U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_{l + 1}))$ with $l = 1, 2$ we find the $\ell$-weights and the corresponding $\ell$-weight vectors for the representations obtained via Jimbo's homomorphism, known also as evaluation representations. Then we find the $\ell$-weights and the $\ell$-weight vectors for the $q$-oscillator representations of Borel subalgebras of the same quantum loop algebras. This allows, in particular, to relate $q$-oscillator and prefundamental representations.

On form-factor expansions for the XXZ chain in the massive regime

We study the large-volume-$L$ limit of form factors of the longitudinal spin operators for the XXZ spin-$1/2$ chain in the massive regime. We find that the individual form factors decay as $L^{-n}$, $n$ being an even integer counting the number of physical excitations -- the holes -- that constitute the excited state. Our expression allows us to derive the form-factor expansion of two-point spin-spin correlation functions in the thermodynamic limit $L\rightarrow +\infty$. The staggered magnetisation appears naturally as the first term in this expansion. We show that all other contributions to the two-point correlation function are exponentially small in the large-distance regime.

Universal R-matrix and functional relations

We collect and systematize general definitions and facts on the application of quantum groups to the construction of functional relations in the theory of integrable systems. As an example, we reconsider the case of the quantum group $U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_2))$ related to the six-vertex model. We prove the full set of the functional relations in the form independent of the representation of the quantum group in the quantum space and specialize them to the case of the six-vertex model.

Quantum groups and functional relations for higher rank

A detailed construction of the universal integrability objects related to the integrable systems associated with the quantum group $\mathrm U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_3))$ is given. The full proof of the functional relations in the form independent of the representation of the quantum group on the quantum space is presented. The case of the general gradation and general twisting is treated. The specialization of the universal functional relations to the case when the quantum space is the state space of a discrete spin chain is described.

Universal integrability objects

We discuss the main points of the quantum group approach in the theory of quantum integrable systems and illustrate them for the case of the quantum group $U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_2))$. We give a complete set of the functional relations correcting inexactitudes of the previous considerations. A special attention is given to the connection of the representations used to construct the universal transfer operators and $Q$-operators.

On the absorption of microwaves by the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising magnet

We analyze the absorption of microwaves by the Heisenberg-Ising chain combining exact calculations, based on the integrability of the model, with numerical calculations. Within linear response theory the absorbed intensity is determined by the imaginary part of the dynamical susceptibility. The moments of the normalized intensity can be used to define the shift of the resonance frequency induced by the interactions and the line width independently of the shape of the spectral line. These moments can be calculated exactly as functions of temperature and strength of an external magnetic field, as long as the field is directed along the symmetry axis of the chain. This allows us to discuss the line width and the resonance shift for a given magnetic field in the full range of possible anisotropy parameters. For the interpretation of these data we need a qualitative knowledge of the line shape which we obtain from fully numerical calculations for finite chains. Exact analytical results on the line shape are out of reach of current theories. From our numerical work we could extract, however, an empirical parameter-free model of the line shape at high temperatures which is extremely accurate over a wide range of anisotropy parameters and is exact at the free fermion point and at the isotropic point. Another prediction of the line shape can be made in the zero-temperature and zero magnetic field limit, where the sufficiently anisotropic model shows strong absorption. For anisotropy parameters in the massive phase we derive the exact two-spinon contribution to the spectral line. From the intensity sum rule it can be estimated that this contribution accounts for more than 80% of the spectral weight if the anisotropy parameter is moderately above its value at the isotropic point.

On the universal R-matrix for the Izergin-Korepin model

We continue our exercises with the universal $R$-matrix based on the Khoroshkin and Tolstoy formula. Here we present our results for the case of the twisted affine Kac--Moody Lie algebra of type $A^{(2)}_2$. Our interest in this case is inspired by the fact that the Tzitzéica equation is associated with $A^{(2)}_2$ in a similar way as the sine-Gordon equation is related to $A^{(1)}_1$. The fundamental spin-chain Hamiltonian is constructed systematically as the logarithmic derivative of the transfer matrix. $L$-operators of two types are obtained by using q-deformed oscillators.

Integral representations for correlation functions of the XXZ chain at finite temperature

We derive a novel multiple integral representation for a generating function of the $\s^z$-$\s^z$ correlation functions of the spin-$\2$ XXZ chain at finite temperature and finite, longitudinal magnetic field. Our work combines algebraic Bethe ansatz techniques for the calculation of matrix elements with the quantum transfer matrix approach to thermodynamics.

On the absence of simultaneous reflection and transmission in integrable impurity systems

We establish that the Yang-Baxter equations in the presence of an impurity can in general only admit solutions of simultaneous tranmission and reflection when the transmission and reflection amplitudes commute in the defect degrees of freedom with an additional exchange of the corresponding rapidities. In the absence of defect degrees of freedom we show in complete generality, that the only exceptions to this are theories which possess rapidity independent bulk scattering matrices. In particular bulk theories with diagonal scattering matrices, can only be the free Boson and Fermion, the Federbush model and their generalizations. These anyonic solutions do not admit the possibility of excited impurity states.

In an attempt to clarify the nature of the crossover from a Peierls band insulator to a Mott Hubbard insulator, we analyze ground-state and spectral properties of the one-dimensional half-filled Holstein Hubbard model using exact diagonalization techniques.

Universal correlations of one-dimensional electrons at low density

We summarize results on the asymptotics of the two-particle Green functions of interacting electrons in one dimension. Below a critical value of the chemical potential the Fermi surface vanishes, and the system can no longer be described as a Luttinger liquid. Instead, the non-relativistic Fermi gas with infinite point-like repulsion becomes the universal model for the long-wavelength, low temperature physics of the one-dimensional electrons. This model, which we call the impenetrable electron gas, allows for a rigorous mathematical treatment. In particular, a so-called determinant representation for the two particle Green function could be derived. This determinant representation is related to an integrable classical evolution equation and to a Riemann-Hilbert problem, that enable the exact calculation of the asymptotics of the two-particle Green functions.

Solution of the quantum inverse problem

We derive a formula that expresses the local spin and field operators of fundamental graded models in terms of the elements of the monodromy matrix. This formula is a quantum analogue of the classical inverse scattering transform. It applies to fundamental spin chains, such as the XYZ chain, and to a number of important exactly solvable models of strongly correlated electrons, such as the supersymmetric t-J model or the the EKS model.

The Hubbard chain: Lieb-Wu equations and norm of the eigenfunctions

We argue that the square of the norm of the Hubbard wave function is proportional to the determinant of a matrix, which is obtained by linearization of the Lieb-Wu equations around a solution. This means that in the vicinity of a solution the Lieb-Wu equations are non-degenerate, if the corresponding wave function is non-zero. We further derive an action that generates the Lieb-Wu equations and express our determinant formula for the square of the norm in terms of the Hessian determinant of this action.

Universal correlations of one-dimensional interacting electrons in the gas phase

We consider dynamical correlation functions of short range interacting electrons in one dimension at finite temperature. Below a critical value of the chemical potential there is no Fermi surface anymore, and the system can no longer be described as a Luttinger liquid. Its low temperature thermodynamics is that of an ideal gas. We identify the impenetrable electron gas model as a universal model for the gas phase and present exact and explicit expressions for the asymptotics of correlation functions at small temperatures, in the presence of a magnetic field.
