Duality through the symplectic embedding formalism

In this work we show that we can obtain dual equivalent actions following the symplectic formalism with the introduction of extra variables which enlarge the phase space. We show that the results are equal as the one obtained with the recently developed gauging iterative Noether dualization method (NDM). We believe that, with the arbitrariness property of the zero mode, the symplectic embedding method (SEM) is more profound since it can reveal a whole family of dual equivalent actions. We illustrate the method demonstrating that the gauge-invariance of the electromagnetic Maxwell Lagrangian broken by the introduction of an explicit mass term and a topological term can be restored to obtain the dual equivalent and gauge-invariant version of the theory.

The dual embedding method in D=3

Improving the beginning steps of a previous work, we settle the dual embedding method (DEM) as an alternative and efficient method for obtaining dual equivalent actions also in D=3. We show that we can obtain dual equivalent actions which were previously obtained in the literature using the gauging iterative Noether dualization method (NDM). We believe that, with the arbitrariness property of the zero mode, the DEM is more profound since it can reveal a whole family of dual equivalent actions. After a review of our previous work, we obtain the dual equivalent theory of the self-dual model minimally coupled to U(1) charged bosonic matter. The result confirms the one obtained previously which is important since it has the same structure that appears in the Abelian Higgs model with an anomalous magnetic interaction.

Supersymmetrization of the Radiation Damping

We construct a supersymmetrized version of the model to the radiation damping \cite{03} introduced by the present authors \cite{ACWF}. We dicuss its symmetries and the corresponding conserved Noether charges. It is shown this supersymmetric version provides a supersymmetric generalization of the Galilei algebra obtained in \cite{ACWF}. We have shown that the supersymmetric action can be splited into dynamically independent external and internal sectors.

Noncommutative Metafluid Dynamics

In this paper we define a noncommutative (NC) Metafluid Dynamics \cite{Marmanis}. We applied the Dirac's quantization to the Metafluid Dynamics on NC spaces. First class constraints were found which are the same obtained in \cite{BJP}. The gauge covariant quantization of the non-linear equations of fields on noncommutative spaces were studied. We have found the extended Hamiltonian which leads to equations of motion in the gauge covariant form. In addition, we show that a particular transformation \cite{Djemai} on the usual classical phase space (CPS) leads to the same results as of the $\star$-deformation with $ν=0$. Besides, we will shown that an additional term is introduced into the dissipative force due the NC geometry. This is an interesting feature due to the NC nature induced into model.

A New Approach to Canonical Quantization of the Radiation Damping

Inspired in some works about quantization of dissipative systems, in particular of the damped harmonic oscillator\cite{MB,RB,12}, we consider the dissipative system of a charge interacting with its own radiation, which originates the radiation damping (RD). Using the indirect Lagrangian representation we obtained a Lagrangian formalism with a Chern-Simons-like term. A Hamiltonian analysis is also done, what leads to the quantization of the system.

The anomaly-induced effective action and natural inflation

The anomaly-induced inflation (modified Starobinsky model) is based on the application of the effective quantum field theory approach to the Early Universe. We present a brief general review of the model and show that it does not require a fine-tuning for the parameters of the theory or initial data, gives a real chance to meet a graceful exit to the FRW phase and also has positive features with respect to the metric perturbations.

Gravitational waves in an anomaly-induced inflation

The behaviour of gravitational waves in the anomaly-induced inflationary phase is studied. The metric perturbations exhibit a stable behaviour, with a very moderate growth in the amplitude of the waves. The spectral indice is computed, revealing an almost flat spectrum.

Stability issues in the modified Starobinsky model

We discuss the stability of the anomaly-induced inflation (modified Starobinsky model) with respect to the arbitrary choice of initial data and with respect to the small perturbations of the conformal factor and tensor modes of the metric in the later period of inflation and, partially, in the present Universe.

Wyman's solution, self-similarity and critical behaviour

We show that the Wyman's solution may be obtained from the four-dimensional Einstein's equations for a spherically symmetric, minimally coupled, massless scalar field by using the continuous self-similarity of those equations. The Wyman's solution depends on two parameters, the mass $M$ and the scalar charge $Σ$. If one fixes $M$ to a positive value, say $M_0$, and let $Σ^2$ take values along the real line we show that this solution exhibits critical behaviour. For $Σ^2 >0$ the space-times have eternal naked singularities, for $Σ^2 =0$ one has a Schwarzschild black hole of mass $M_0$ and finally for $-M_0^2 \leq Σ^2 < 0$ one has eternal bouncing solutions.

Formation of Schwarzschild black hole from the scalar field collapse in four-dimensions

We obtain a new self-similar solution to the Einstein's equations in four-dimensions, representing the collapse of a spherically symmetric, minimally coupled, massless, scalar field. Depending on the value of certain parameters, this solution represents the formation of naked singularities and black holes. Since the black holes are identified as the Schwarzschild ones, one may naturally see how these black holes are produced as remnants of the scalar field collapse.

On the stability of the anomaly-induced inflation

We analyze various phases of inflation based on the anomaly-induced effective action of gravity (modified Starobinsky model), taking the cosmological constant Lambda and k=0, +/- 1 topologies into account. The total number of the inflationary e-folds may be enormous, but at the last 65 of them the inflation greatly slows down due to the contributions of the massive particles. For the supersymmetric particle content, the stability of inflation holds from the initial point at the sub-Planck scale until the supersymmetry breaks down. After that the universe enters into the unstable regime with the eventual transition into the stable FRW-like evolution with small positive cosmological constant. It is remarkable, that all this follows automatically, without fine-tuning of any sort, independent on the values of Lambda and k. Finally, we consider the stability under the metric perturbations during the last 65 e-folds of inflation and find that the amplitude of the ones with the wavenumber below a certain cutoff has an acceptable range.

Metafluid dynamics as a gauge field theory

In this paper, the analog of Maxwell electromagnetism for hydrodynamic turbulence, the metafluid dynamics, is extended in order to reformulate the metafluid dynamics as a gauge field theory. That analogy opens up the possibility to investigate this theory as a constrained system. Having this possibility in mind, we propose a Lagrangian to describe this new theory of turbulence and, subsequently, analyze it from the symplectic point of view. From this analysis, a hidden gauge symmetry is revealed, providing a clear interpretation and meaning of the physics behind the metafluid theory. Further, the geometrical interpretation to the gauge symmetries is discussed and the spectrum for 3D turbulence computed.

Turbulence as a constrained system

Hydrodynamic turbulence is studied as a constrained system from the point of view of metafluid dynamics. We present a Lagrangian description for this new theory of turbulence inspired from the analogy with electromagnetism. Consequently it is a gauge theory. This new approach to the study of turbulence tends to renew the optimism to solve the difficult problem of turbulence. As a constrained system, turbulence is studied in the Dirac and Faddeev-Jackiw formalisms giving the Dirac brackets. An important result is that we show these brackets are the same in and out of the inertial range, giving the way to quantize turbulence.

Dynamical Viscosity of Nucleating Bubbles

We study the viscosity corrections to the growth rate of nucleating bubbles in a first order phase transition in scalar field theory. We obtain the non-equilibrium equation of motion of the coordinate that describes small departures from the critical bubble and extract the growth rate consistently in weak coupling and in the thin wall limit. Viscosity effects arise from the interaction of this coordinate with the stable quantum and thermal fluctuations around a critical bubble. In the case of 1+1 dimensions we provide an estimate for the growth rate that depends on the details of the free energy functional. In 3+1 dimensions we recognize robust features that are a direct consequence of the thin wall approximation and give the leading viscosity corrections. These are long-wavelength hydrodynamic fluctuations that describe surface waves, quasi-Goldstone modes which are related to ripples on interfaces in phase ordered Ising-like systems. We discuss the applicability of our results to describe the growth rate of hadron bubbles in a quark-hadron first order transition.

Quantum photon emission from a moving mirror in the nonperturbative regime

We consider the coupling of the electromagnetic vacuum field with an oscillating perfectly-reflecting mirror in the nonrelativistic approximation. As a consequence of the frequency modulation associated to the motion of the mirror, low frequency photons are generated. We calculate the photon emission rate by following a nonperturbative approach, in which the coupling between the field sidebands is taken into account. We show that the usual perturbation theory fails to account correctly for the contribution of TM-polarized vacuum fluctuations that propagate along directions nearly parallel to the plane surface of the mirror. As a result of the modification of the field eigenfunctions, the resonance frequency for photon emission is shifted from its unperturbed value.

Circulation Statistics in Three-Dimensional Turbulent Flows

We study the large $λ$ limit of the loop-dependent characteristic functional $Z(λ)=<\exp(iλ\oint_c \vec v \cdot d \vec x)>$, related to the probability density function (PDF) of the circulation around a closed contour $c$. The analysis is carried out in the framework of the Martin-Siggia-Rose field theory formulation of the turbulence problem, by means of the saddle-point technique. Axisymmetric instantons, labelled by the component $σ_{zz}$ of the strain field -- a partially annealed variable in our formalism -- are obtained for a circular loop in the $xy$ plane, with radius defined in the inertial range. Fluctuations of the velocity field around the saddle-point solutions are relevant, leading to the lorentzian asymptotic behavior $Z(λ) \sim 1/{λ^2}$. The ${\cal O}(1 / {λ^4})$ subleading correction and the asymmetry between right and left PDF tails due to parity breaking mechanisms are also investigated.

Domain Walls Out of Equilibrium

We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of domain walls in real time for $ϕ^4$ and Sine Gordon models in 1+1 dimensions in the dilute regime. The equation of motion for the collective coordinate is obtained by integrating out the meson excitations around the domain wall to one-loop order. The real-time non-equilibrium relaxation is studied analytically and numerically to this order. The constant friction coefficient vanishes but there is dynamical friction and relaxation caused by off-shell non-Markovian effects. The validity of a Markovian description is studied in detail. The proper Langevin equation is obtained to this order, the noise is Gaussian and additive but colored. We analyze the classical and hard thermal loop contributions to the self-energy and noise kernels and show that at temperatures larger than the meson mass the hard contributions are negligible and the finite temperature contribution to the dynamics is governed by the classical soft modes of the meson bath. The long time relaxational dynamics is completely dominated by classical Landau damping resulting in that the corresponding time scales are not set by the temperature but by the meson mass. The noise correlation function and the dissipative kernel obey a generalized form of the Fluctuation-Dissipation relation.

Real Time Dynamics of Soliton Diffusion

We study the non-equilibrium dynamics of solitons in model Hamiltonians for Peierls dimerized quasi-one dimensional conducting polymers and commensurate charge density wave systems. The real time equation of motion for the collective coordinate of the soliton and the associated Langevin equation is found in a consistent adiabatic expansion in terms of the ratio of the optical phonon or phason frequency to the soliton mass. The equation of motion for the soliton collective coordinate allows to obtain the frequency dependent soliton conductivity. In lowest order we find that although the coefficient of static friction vanishes, there is dynamical dissipation represented by a non-Markovian dissipative kernel associated with two-phonon processes. The correlation function of the noise in the quantum Langevin equation and the dissipative kernel are related by a generalized quantum fluctuation dissipation relation. To lowest adiabatic order we find that the noise is gaussian, additive and colored. We numerically solve the equations of motion in lowest adiabatic order and compare to the Markovian approximation which is shown to fail both in the $ϕ^4$ and the Sine Gordon models even at large temperatures.
