Solving FDE-IVPs by using Fractional HBVMs: some experiments with the fhbvm code

In this paper we report a few numerical tests by using a slight extension of the Matlab code fhbvm in [8], implementing Fractional HBVMs, a recently introduced class of numerical methods for solving Initial Value Problems of Fractional Differential Equations (FDE-IVPs). The reported experiments are aimed to give evidence of its effectiveness.

A spectrally accurate step-by-step method for the numerical solution of fractional differential equations

In this paper we consider the numerical solution of fractional differential equations. In particular, we study a step-by-step graded mesh procedure based on an expansion of the vector field using orthonormal Jacobi polynomials. Under mild hypotheses, the proposed procedure is capable of getting spectral accuracy. A few numerical examples are reported to confirm the theoretical findings.

Conjugate-symplecticity properties of Euler--Maclaurin methods and their implementation on the Infinity Computer

Multi-derivative one-step methods based upon Euler-Maclaurin integration formulae are considered for the solution of canonical Hamiltonian dynamical systems. Despite the negative result that simplecticity may not be attained by any multi-derivative Runge--Kutta methods, we show that the Euler-MacLaurin method of order p is conjugate-symplectic up to order p+2. This feature entitles them to play a role in the context of geometric integration and, to make their implementation competitive with the existing integrators, we explore the possibility of computing the underlying higher order derivatives with the aid of the Infinity Computer.

Energy-conserving methods for Hamiltonian Boundary Value Problems and applications in astrodynamics

We introduce new methods for the numerical solution of general Hamiltonian boundary value problems. The main feature of the new formulae is to produce numerical solutions along which the energy is precisely conserved, as is the case with the analytical solution. We apply the methods to locate periodic orbits in the circular restricted three body problem by using their energy value rather than their pe- riod as input data. We also use the methods for solving optimal transfer problems in astrodynamics.

Efficient implementation of Radau collocation methods

In this paper we define an efficient implementation of Runge-Kutta methods of Radau IIA type, which are commonly used when solving stiff ODE-IVPs problems. The proposed implementation relies on an alternative low-rank formulation of the methods, for which a splitting procedure is easily defined. The linear convergence analysis of this splitting procedure exhibits excellent properties, which are confirmed by its performance on a few numerical tests.
