Illustrations of loosely-bound and resonant states in atomic nuclei

Using the one-dimensional potential well with realistic parameters for atomic nuclei, we illustrate the movement of the poles of the S-matrix, and the transmission coefficient when the well supports an anti-bound state. We calculate the phase shift of the atomic nuclei 5He using the three-dimensional potential well, and compare it with the experimental one. The paper gives a glance of some of the properties found in realistic loosely and resonant nuclear systems, using equations at the level of undergraduate students.

A new approach to the Child-Langmuir law

We analyze the motion of charged particles in a vacuum tube diode using a new set of variables. We obtain the space charge limited current for a charged particle moving non-relativistically in one dimension for the case of zero and non zero initial velocity. Our approach gives a new physical insight into the Child-Langmuir law and avoids the need of solving a nonlinear differential equation.

Seebeck Nanoantennas for Solar Energy Harvesting

We propose a mid-infrared device based on thermocouple optical antennas for light sensing and energy harvesting applications. We numerically demonstrate that antennas are able to generate low-power dc signals by beneficing of the thermoelectric properties of the metals that constitute them. We theoretically evaluate the optical-to-electrical conversion efficiency for harvesting applications and finally discuss strategies to increase its performance. Thermocouple optical antennas therefore open the route toward the design of photovoltaic devices.
