Entanglement between uncoupled modes with time-dependent complex frequencies

In this work we present the general unified description for the unitary time-evolution generated by time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians embedding the bosonic representations of $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$ and $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ Lie algebras. We take into account a time-dependent Hermitian Dyson maps written in terms of the elements of those algebras with the relation between non-Hermitian and its Hermitian counterpart being independent of the algebra realization. As a direct consequence, we verify that a time-evolved state of uncoupled modes modulated by a time-dependent complex frequency may exhibits a non-zero entanglement even when the cross-operators, typical of the interaction between modes, are absent. This is due the non-local nature of the non-trivial dynamical Hilbert space metric encoded in the time-dependent parameters of the general Hermitian Dyson map, which depend on the imaginary part of the complex frequency.

Unitary evolution for a two-level quantum system in fractional-time scenario

The time-evolution operator obtained from the fractional-time Schrödinger equation (FTSE) is said to be non-unitary since it does not preserve the norm of the vector state in time. As done in the time-dependent non-Hermitian quantum formalism, for a traceless non-Hermitian two-level quantum system, we demonstrate that it is possible to map the non-unitary time-evolution operator in a unitary one. It is done by considering a dynamical Hilbert space with a time-dependent metric operator, constructed from a Hermitian time-dependent Dyson map, in respect to which the system evolves in a unitary way, and the standard quantum mechanics interpretation can be made properly. To elucidate our approach, we consider three examples of Hamiltonian operators and their corresponding unitary dynamics obtained from the solutions of FTSE, and the respective Dyson maps.

Enhancement of photon creation through the pseudo-Hermitian dynamical Casimir effect

We analyse here the pseudo-Hermitian Dynamical Casimir effect, proposing a non-Hermitian version of the effective Law's Hamiltonian used to describe the phenomenon. We verify that the average number of created photons can be substantially increased, a result which calls the attention to the possibility of engineering the time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian we have assumed. Given the well-known difficulty in detecting the Casimir photon production, the present result reinforces the importance of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics as a new chapter of quantum theory and an important tool for the amplification of Hermitian processes such as the degree of squeezing of quantum states.

Simple quantum graphs proposal for quantum devices

The control of the quantum transport is an issue of current interest for the construction of new devices. In this work, we investigate this possibility in the realm of quantum graphs. The study allows the identification of two distinct periodic quantum effects which are related to quantum complexity, one being the identification of transport inefficiency, and the other the presence of peaks of full transmission inside regions of suppression of transport in some elementary arrangements of graphs. Motivated by the power of quantum graphs, we elaborate on the construction of simple devices, based on microwave and optical fibers networks, and also on quantum dots, nanowires and nanorings. The elementary devices can be used to construct composed structures with important quantum properties, which may be used to manipulate the quantum transport.

Narrow peaks of full transmission in simple quantum graphs

This work deals with quantum graphs, focusing on the transmission properties they engender. We first select two simple diamond graphs, and two hexagonal graphs in which the vertices are all of degree 3, and investigate their transmission coefficients. In particular, we identified regions in which the transmission is fully suppressed. We also considered the transmission coefficients of some series and parallel arrangements of the two basic graphs, with the vertices still preserving the degree 3 condition, and then identified specific series and parallel compositions that allow for windows of no transmission. Inside some of these windows, we found very narrow peaks of full transmission, which are consequences of constructive quantum interference. Possibilities of practical use as the experimental construction of devices of current interest to control and manipulate quantum transmission are also discussed.

Basin entropy behavior in a cyclic model of the rock-paper-scissors type

We deal with stochastic network simulations in a model with three distinct species that compete under cyclic rules which are similar to the rules of the popular rock-paper-scissors game. We investigate the Hamming distance density and then the basin entropy behavior, running the simulations for some typical values of the parameters mobility, predation and reproduction and for very long time evolutions. The results show that the basin entropy is another interesting tool of current interest to investigate chaotic features of the network simulations that are usually considered to describe aspects of biodiversity in the cyclic three-species model.

Quantum state transfer in optomechanical arrays

Quantum state transfer between distant nodes is at the heart of quantum processing and quantum networking. Stimulated by this, we propose a scheme where one can highly achieve quantum state transfer between sites in a cavity quantum optomechanical network. There, each individual cell site is composed of a localized mechanical mode which interacts with a laser-driven cavity mode via radiation pressure, and photons exchange between neighboring sites is allowed. After the diagonalization of the Hamiltonian of each cell, we show that the system can be reduced to an effective Hamiltonian of two decoupled bosonic chains, and therefore we can apply the well-known results regarding quantum state transfer in conjuction with an additional condition on the transfer times. In fact, we show that our transfer protocol works for any arbitrary quantum state, a result that we will illustrate within the red sideband regime. Finally, in order to give a more realistic scenario we take into account the effects of independent thermal reservoirs for each site. Thus, solving the standard master equation within the Born-Markov approximation, we reassure both the effective model as well as the feasibility of our protocol.

On the $κ$-Dirac Oscillator revisited

This Letter is based on the $κ$-Dirac equation, derived from the $κ$-Poincaré-Hopf algebra. It is shown that the $κ$-Dirac equation preserves parity while breaks charge conjugation and time reversal symmetries. Introducing the Dirac oscillator prescription, $\mathbf{p}\to\mathbf{p}-imωβ\mathbf{r}$, in the $κ$-Dirac equation, one obtains the $κ$-Dirac oscillator. Using a decomposition in terms of spin angular functions, one achieves the deformed radial equations, with the associated deformed energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. The deformation parameter breaks the infinite degeneracy of the Dirac oscillator. In the case where $\varepsilon=0$, one recovers the energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the Dirac oscillator.

The exact solution for the Dirac equation with the Cornell potential

An analytical solution of the Dirac equation with a Cornell potential, with identical scalar and vectorial parts, is presented. The solution is obtained by using the linear potential solution, related to Airy functions, multiplied by another function to be determined. The energy levels are obtained and we notice that they obey a band structure.

On the spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm problem in conical space: bound states, scattering and helicity nonconservation

In this work the bound state and scattering problems for a spin-1/2 particle undergone to an Aharonov-Bohm potential in a conical space in the nonrelativistic limit are considered. The presence of a δ-function singularity, which comes from the Zeeman spin interaction with the magnetic flux tube, is addressed by the self-adjoint extension method. One of the advantages of the present approach is the determination of the self-adjoint extension parameter in terms of physics of the problem. Expressions for the energy bound states, phase-shift and $S$ matrix are determined in terms of the self-adjoint extension parameter, which is explicitly determined in terms of the parameters of the problem. The relation between the bound state and zero modes and the failure of helicity conservation in the scattering problem and its relation with the gyromagnetic ratio $g$ are discussed. Also, as an application, we consider the spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm problem in conical space plus a two-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator.

On the Aharonov-Casher scattering in a CPT-odd Lorentz-violating background

The effects of a Lorentz symmetry violating background vector on the Aharonov-Casher scattering in the nonrelativistic limit is considered. By using the self-adjoint extension method we found that there is an additional scattering for any value of the self-adjoint extension parameter and non-zero energy bound states for negative values of this parameter. Expressions for the energy bound states, phase-shift and the scattering matrix are explicitly determined in terms of the self-adjoint extension parameter. The expression obtained for the scattering amplitude reveals that the helicity is not conserved in this scenario.

On Aharonov-Casher bound states

In this work bound states for the Aharonov-Casher problem are considered. According to Hagen's work on the exact equivalence between spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm and Aharonov-Casher effects, is known that the $\boldsymbol{\nabla}\cdot\mathbf{E}$ term cannot be neglected in the Hamiltonian if the spin of particle is considered. This term leads to the existence of a singular potential at the origin. By modeling the problem by boundary conditions at the origin which arises by the self-adjoint extension of the Hamiltonian, we derive for the first time an expression for the bound state energy of the Aharonov-Casher problem. As an application, we consider the Aharonov-Casher plus a two-dimensional harmonic oscillator. We derive the expression for the harmonic oscillator energies and compare it with the expression obtained in the case without singularity. At the end, an approach for determination of the self-adjoint extension parameter is given. In our approach, the parameter is obtained essentially in terms of physics of the problem.

Remarks on the Aharonov-Casher dynamics in a CPT-odd Lorentz-violating background

The Aharonov-Casher problem in the presence of a Lorentz-violating background nonminimally coupled to a spinor and a gauge field is examined. Using an approach based on the self-adjoint extension method, an expression for the bound state energies is obtained in terms of the physics of the problem by determining the self-adjoint extension parameter.

Effects of quantum deformation on the spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm problem

In this letter we study the Aharonov-Bohm problem for a spin-1/2 particle in the quantum deformed framework generated by the $κ$-Poincaré-Hopf algebra. We consider the nonrelativistic limit of the $κ$-deformed Dirac equation and use the spin-dependent term to impose an upper bound on the magnitude of the deformation parameter $\varepsilon$. By using the self-adjoint extension approach, we examine the scattering and bound state scenarios. After obtaining the scattering phase shift and the $S$-matrix, the bound states energies are obtained by analyzing the pole structure of the latter. Using a recently developed general regularization prescription [Phys. Rev. D. \textbf{85}, 041701(R) (2012)], the self-adjoint extension parameter is determined in terms of the physics of the problem. For last, we analyze the problem of helicity conservation.

Nonrelativistic quantum dynamics on a cone with and without a constraining potential

In this paper we investigate the bound state problem of nonrelativistic quantum particles on a conical surface. This kind of surface appears as a topological defect in ordinary semiconductors as well as in graphene sheets. Specifically, we compare and discuss the results stemming from two different approaches. In the first one, it is assumed that the charge carriers are bound to the surface by a constraining potential, while the second one is based on the Klein-Gordon type equation on surfaces, without the constraining potential. The main difference between both theories is the presence/absence of a potential which contains the mean curvature of a given surface. This fact changes the dependence of the bound states on the angular momentum $l$. Moreover, there are bound states that are absent in the Klein-Gordon theory, which instead appear in the Schrödinger one.

Superdiffusivity of quantum walks: A Feynman sum-over-paths description

Quantum walks constitute important tools in different applications, especially in quantum algorithms. To a great extent their usefulness is due to unusual diffusive features, allowing much faster spreading than their classical counterparts. Such behavior, although frequently credited to intrinsic quantum interference, usually is not completely characterized. Using a recently developed Green's function approach [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 84}, 042343 (2011)], here it is described -- in a rather general way -- the problem dynamics in terms of a true sum over paths history a la Feynman. It allows one to explicit identify interference effects and also to explain the emergence of superdiffusivity. The present analysis has the potential to help in designing quantum walks with distinct transport properties.

Physical regularization for the spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm problem in conical space

We examine the bound state and scattering problem of a spin-one-half particle undergone to an Aharonov-Bohm potential in a conical space in the nonrelativistic limit. The crucial problem of the δ-function singularity coming from the Zeeman spin interaction with the magnetic flux tube is solved through the self-adjoint extension method. Using two different approaches already known in the literature, both based on the self-adjoint extension method, we obtain the self-adjoint extension parameter to the bound state and scattering scenarios in terms of the physics of the problem. It is shown that such a parameter is the same for both situations. The method is general and is suitable for any quantum system with a singular Hamiltonian that has bound and scattering states.

Green function approach for scattering quantum walks

In this work a Green function approach for scattering quantum walks is developed. The exact formula has the form of a sum over paths and always can be cast into a closed analytic expression for arbitrary topologies and position dependent quantum amplitudes. By introducing the step and path operators, it is shown how to extract any information about the system from the Green function. The method relevant features are demonstrated by discussing in details an example, a general diamond-shaped graph.
