Additive decomposition of iterative quantum search operations in the Grover-type algorithm

In the Grover-type quantum search process a search operator is iteratively applied, say, k times, on the initial database state. We present an additive decomposition scheme such that the iteration process is expressed, in the computational space, as a linear combination of k operators, each of which consists of a single Grover-search followed by an overall phase-rotation. The value of k and the rotation phase are the same as those determined in the framework of the search with certainty. We further show that the final state can be expressed in terms of a single oracle operator of the Grover-search and phase-rotation factors. We discuss how the additive form can be utilized so that it effectively reduces the computational load of the iterative search, and we propose an effective shortcut gate that realizes the same outcome as the iterative search.

Numerical solutions of the Schrodinger equation with source terms or time-dependent potentials

We develop an approach to solving numerically the time-dependent Schrodinger equation when it includes source terms and time-dependent potentials. The approach is based on the generalized Crank-Nicolson method supplemented with an Euler-MacLaurin expansion for the time-integrated nonhomogeneous term. By comparing the numerical results with exact solutions of analytically solvable models, we find that the method leads to precision comparable to that of the generalized Crank-Nicolson method applied to homogeneous equations. Furthermore, the systematic increase in precision generally permits making estimates of the error.

Multi-phase matching in the Grover algorithm

Phase matching has been studied for the Grover algorithm as a way of enhancing the efficiency of the quantum search. Recently Li and Li found that a particular form of phase matching yields, with a single Grover operation, a success probability greater than 25/27 for finding the equal-amplitude superposition of marked states when the fraction of the marked states stored in a database state is greater than 1/3. Although this single operation eliminates the oscillations of the success probability that occur with multiple Grover operations, the latter oscillations reappear with multiple iterations of Li and Li's phase matching. In this paper we introduce a multi-phase matching subject to a certain matching rule by which we can obtain a multiple Grover operation that with only a few iterations yields a success probability that is almost constant and unity over a wide range of the fraction of marked items. As an example we show that a multi-phase operation with six iterations yields a success probability between 99.8% and 100% for a fraction of marked states of 1/10 or larger.

Accurate numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation

We present a generalization of the often-used Crank-Nicolson (CN) method of obtaining numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The generalization yields numerical solutions accurate to order $(Δx)^{2r-1}$ in space and $(Δt)^{2M}$ in time for any positive integers $r$ and $M$, while CN employ $r=M=1$. We note dramatic improvement in the attainable precision (circa 10 or greater orders of magnitude) along with several orders of magnitude reduction of computational time. The improved method is shown to lead to feasible studies of coherent-state oscillations with additional short-range interactions, wavepacket scattering, and long-time studies of decaying systems.

Conditional Expressions for Blind Deconvolution: Derivative form

We developed novel conditional expressions (CEs) for Lane and Bates' blind deconvolution. The CEs are given in term of the derivatives of the zero-values of the z-transform of given images. The CEs make it possible to automatically detect multiple blur convolved in the given images all at once without performing any analysis of the zero-sheets of the given images. We illustrate the multiple blur-detection by the CEs for a model image

Conditional Expressions for Blind Deconvolution: Multi-point form

We present conditional expression (CE) for finding blurs convolved in given images. The CE is given in terms of the zero-values of the blurs evaluated at multi-point. The CE can detect multiple blur all at once. We illustrate the multiple blur-detection by using a test image.

Decay process accelerated by tunneling in its very early stage

We examine a fast decay process that arises in the transition period between the Gaussian and exponential decay processes in quantum decay systems. It is usually expected that the decay is decelerated by a confinement potential barrier. However, we find a case where the decay in the transition period is accelerated by tunneling through a confinement potential barrier. We show that the acceleration gives rise to an appreciable effect on the time evolution of the nonescape probability of the decay system.

Bohmian description of a decaying quantum system

We present a Bohmian description of a decaying quantum system. A particle is initially confined in a region around the origin which is surrounded by a repulsive potential barrier. The particle leaks out in time tunneling through the barrier. We determine Bohm trajectories with which we can visualize various features of the decaying system.
