Global fits to b -> s ll data and signs for lepton non-universality

There are some slight tensions with the SM predictions within the latest LHCb measurements. Besides the known anomaly in one angular observable of the rare decay B -> K* mu+ mu-, another small discrepancy recently occurred. The ratio R_K = BR(B+ -> K+ mu+ mu-) / BR(B+ -> K+ e+ e-) in the low-q^2 region has been measured by LHCb showing a 2.6 sigma deviation from the SM prediction. In contrast to the anomaly in the rare decay B -> K* mu+ mu- which is affected by power corrections, the ratio R_K is theoretically rather clean. We analyse all the b -> s ll data with global fits and in particular explore the possibility of breaking of lepton universality. Possible cross-checks with an analysis of the inclusive B -> X_s l+ l- decay are also explored.

B -> K* mu+ mu- optimised observables in the MSSM

We provide a detailed analysis of the impact of the newly measured optimised observables in the B -> K* mu+ mu- decay by the LHCb experiment. The analysis is performed in the MSSM, both in the context of the usual constrained scenarios, and in the context of a more general set-up where the SUSY partner masses are independent. We show that the global agreement of the MSSM solutions with the data is still very good. Nevertheless, especially in the constrained scenarios, the limits from B -> K* mu+ mu- are now very strong, and are at the same level as the well-known b -> s gamma constraints. We describe the implications of the B -> K* mu+ mu- measurements both on the Wilson coefficients and on the SUSY parameters.

On the LHCb anomaly in B -> K* l+ l-

The latest LHCb angular analysis of the rare decay B -> K* mu+ mu- shows some discrepancies from the SM up to the 3.7 sigma level. There is a consistent new physics explanation of these anomalies, while it is also reasonable that these anomalies are just statistical fluctuations and/or a direct consequence of underestimated hadronic uncertainties. We briefly discuss possible cross-checks of the various hypotheses with an analysis of the inclusive B -> Xs l+ l- based on the data collected by the B factories Babar and Belle and also based on future opportunities at SuperBelle. We also present a global analysis of the latest LHCb data under the hypothesis of Minimal Flavour Violation. The latter is an important benchmark scenario for new physics models. Any measurements beyond the MFV bounds and relations unambiguously indicate the existence of new flavour structures next to the Yukawa couplings of the Standard Model. However, if new physics is responsible for these discrepancies, we show it is compatible with the MFV hypothesis, so no new flavour structures are needed. Moreover, we analyse the impact of the correlations between the observables based on a Monte Carlo study.

Indirect search for New Physics: complementarity to direct searches

We present an overview on the interplay between direct searches for new physics at the LHC and indirect constraints from the flavour sector, with an emphasis on the implications of the recent LHCb results. The complementarity with the Higgs search results will also be addressed. We show the correlation and complementarity between the different sectors in the context of a few specific examples in supersymmetry.

Anomaly mediated supersymmetric models and Higgs data from the LHC

Anomaly mediation models are well motivated supersymmetry breaking scenarios which appear as alternatives to the mSUGRA paradigm. These models are quite compelling from the theoretical point of view and it is therefore important to test if they are also viable models for phenomenology. We perform a study of these models in the light of all standard flavour, collider and dark matter constraints, including also the recent Higgs boson measurements for the mass and signal strengths in the different decay channels. The minimal AMSB scenario can satisfy in part of its parameter space the dark matter requirement but is only marginally consistent with the current Higgs boson mass value. The HyperCharge-AMSB and Mixed Moduli-AMSB scenarios can better describe present data from dark matter, flavour, low energy physics and are consistent with the measured mass of the Higgs boson. The inclusion of the preferred signal strengths for the Higgs boson decay channels shows that for tan(beta) > 5 the HC-AMSB and MM-AMSB models can be consistent with the present Higgs boson data. In contrast the minimal AMSB has a narrower allowed range in tan(beta). These different AMSB scenarios, while consistent with present Higgs boson measurements, can be further tested by future more precise data in the Higgs sector.

Implications of LHCb measurements and future prospects

During 2011 the LHCb experiment at CERN collected 1.0 fb-1 of sqrt{s} = 7 TeV pp collisions. Due to the large heavy quark production cross-sections, these data provide unprecedented samples of heavy flavoured hadrons. The first results from LHCb have made a significant impact on the flavour physics landscape and have definitively proved the concept of a dedicated experiment in the forward region at a hadron collider. This document discusses the implications of these first measurements on classes of extensions to the Standard Model, bearing in mind the interplay with the results of searches for on-shell production of new particles at ATLAS and CMS. The physics potential of an upgrade to the LHCb detector, which would allow an order of magnitude more data to be collected, is emphasised.

An update of the constraints on the phenomenological MSSM from the new LHC Higgs results

Updated results on the search of Higgs bosons at the LHC with up to 17/fb of data have just been presented by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. New constraints are provided by the LHCb and XENON experiments with the observation of the rare decay B_s -> mu+mu- and new limits on dark matter direct detection. In this paper, we update and extend the results on the implications of these data on the phenomenological Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (pMSSM) by using high statistics, flat scans of its 19 parameters. The new LHC data on bb and tau tau decays of the lightest Higgs state and the new CMS limits from the tau tau searches for the heavier Higgs states set stronger constraints on the pMSSM parameter space.

Supersymmetry confronts Bs -> mu+mu-: Present and future status

The purely leptonic rare decay Bs -> mu+mu- is very sensitive to supersymmetric contributions which are free from the helicity suppression of its Standard Model diagrams. The recent observation of the decay by the LHCb experiment and the first determination of its branching fraction motivate a review of their impact on the viable parameter space of supersymmetry. In this paper we discuss the implications of the present and expected future accuracy on BR(Bs -> mu+mu-) for constrained and unconstrained MSSM scenarios, in relation to the results from direct SUSY searches and the Higgs data at the LHC. While the constraints from BR(Bs -> mu+mu-) can be very important in specific SUSY regions, we show that the current result, and even foreseen future improvements in its accuracy, will leave a major fraction of the SUSY parameter space, compatible with the results of direct searches, unconstrained. We also highlight the complementarity of the Bs -> mu+mu- decay with direct SUSY searches.

Implications of LHC Higgs and SUSY searches for MSSM

The implications of the LHC SUSY searches as well as the discovery of a new bosonic state compatible with the lightest Higgs boson will be discussed in the context of constrained and general MSSM scenarios. Exploring the MSSM through the Higgs sector is an alternative and complementary path to direct searches, and tight constraints on the MSSM parameter space can be obtained.

Light neutralino dark matter in MSSM

Three dark matter direct detection experiments, DAMA, COGENT and CRESST, have reported a possible signal of WIMP interaction corresponding to very light particles, close to the edge of the XENON 100 and CDMS sensitivity. Imposing the latest constraints from colliders, flavour physics, electroweak precision tests and direct and indirect dark matter searches, we show that viable MSSM scenarios with a light neutralino, in agreement with all the present data, are feasible. An analysis of the characteristics of the resulting scenarios will be presented.

Flavour data constraints on new physics and SuperIso

We discuss the implications of B_s -> mu+mu- and B -> K*mu+mu- decays in the context of indirect searches for new physics, emphasising the new LHCb results. In particular, we derive the consequences of the MFV hypothesis and discuss the importance of the MFV predictions. The impact of the recent LHCb measurements in the context of the MSSM will also be addressed, and the SuperIso program will be briefly described.

Probing the charged Higgs boson at the LHC in the CP-violating type-II 2HDM

We present a phenomenological study of a CP-violating two-Higgs-doublet Model with type-II Yukawa couplings at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In the light of recent LHC data, we focus on the parameter space that survives the current and past experimental constraints as well as theoretical bounds on the model. Once the phenomenological scenario is set, we analyse the scope of the LHC in exploring this model through the discovery of a charged Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson, with the former decaying into the lightest neutral Higgs and a second W state, altogether yielding a b\bar b W^+W^- signature, of which we exploit the W^+W^- semileptonic decays.

Direct and indirect searches for New Physics

An overview of the indirect constraints from flavour physics on supersymmetric models is presented. We study in particular constraints from Bs -> mu+mu- and B -> K* mu+mu-, emphasising on the new LHCb results. We show that these rare transitions provide valuable information in the search for new physics and are complementary to the direct searches.

SUSY and a 125 GeV Scalar

An excess of events at a mass of ~ 125 GeV has been reported by both ATLAS and CMS collaborations using 5/fb of data. If this excess of events is confirmed by further searches with more data, it will have extremely important consequences in the context of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. We show that for a Standard Model like Higgs boson with a mass 122.5 < Mh < 127.5 GeV, several unconstrained or constrained MSSM scenarios would be excluded, while the parameters of some other scenarios would be severely restricted.

Light Neutralino Dark Matter in the pMSSM: Implications of LEP, LHC and Dark Matter Searches on SUSY Particle Spectra

We investigate the viability of light neutralino scenarios as promoted by dark matter direct detection experiments. Using high statistics scans in the pMSSM we have identified several scenarios which give rise to very light neutralinos with large direct detection scattering cross sections. Our results are challenged with constraints from dark matter relic density, direct detection, indirect detection, as well as flavour physics, electroweak precision tests, LEP and Tevatron limits, LHC limits on SUSY, Higgs and monojet searches. In particular we study the effect of a Higgs boson in the range 122.5 < Mh < 127.5 GeV. We show that several scenarios emerge in agreement with all the constraints, and we study their characteristics and the LHC sensitivity.

Supersymmetric constraints from Bs -> mu+mu- and B -> K* mu+mu- observables

We study the implications of the recent LHCb limit and results on Bs -> mu+mu- and B -> K* mu+mu- observables in the constrained SUSY scenarios. After discussing the Standard Model predictions and carefully estimating the theoretical errors, we show the constraining power of these observables in CMSSM and NUHM. The latest limit on BR(Bs -> mu+mu-), being very close to the SM prediction, constrains strongly the large tan(beta) regime and we show that the various angular observables from B -> K* mu+mu- decay can provide complementary information in particular for moderate tan(beta) values.
