Constraints on charged Higgs bosons from D(s)+- -> mu+- nu and D(s)+- -> tau+- nu

The decays D(s)+- -> mu+- nu and D(s)+- -> tau+- nu have traditionally been used to measure the D(s)+- meson decay constant f_D(s). Recent measurements at CLEO-c and the B factories suggest a branching ratio for both decays somewhat higher than the Standard Model prediction using f_D(s) from unquenched lattice calculations. The charged Higgs boson (H+-) in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (Type II) would also mediate these decays, but any sizeable contribution from H+- can only suppress the branching ratios and consequently is now slightly disfavoured. It is shown that constraints on the parameters tan(beta) and m_H+- from such decays can be competitive with and complementary to analogous constraints derived from the leptonic meson decays B+- -> tau+- nu_tau and K+- -> mu+- nu_mu, especially if lattice calculations eventually prefer f_D(s) < 250 MeV.

SuperIso program and flavor data constraints

We present here an overview of the SuperIso program which is a public code dedicated to the calculation of flavor physics observables in supersymmetry. The main purpose of the SuperIso program is to provide, by confronting the theoretical predictions to the experimental data for flavor observables, indirect constraints on the parameters of supersymmetry. These constraints can then provide limits on physical masses of yet undiscovered new particles, such as charged Higgs bosons.

Charged Higgs bosons in Minimal Supersymmetry: Updated constraints and experimental prospects

We discuss the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation. In addition to the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) with universal soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters at the GUT scale, we explore non-universal Higgs mass models (NUHM) where this universality condition is relaxed. To identify the allowed parameter space regions, we apply constraints from direct searches, low energy observables, and cosmology. We find that values of the charged Higgs mass as low as $m_{H^+}\simeq~135$ GeV can be accommodated in the NUHM models, but that several flavor physics observables disfavor large $H^+$ contributions, associated with high $\tanβ$, quite independently of MSSM scenario. We confront the constrained scenarios with the discovery potentials reported by ATLAS and CMS, and find that the current exclusion by indirect constraints is similar to the expected LHC discovery reach with 30 fb$^{-1}$ of data. Finally, we evaluate the sensitivity of the presented discovery potential to the choice of MSSM benchmark scenario. This sensitivity is found to be higher in the case of a light ($m_{H^+}<m_t$) charged Higgs.

SUSY constraints from relic density: high sensitivity to pre-BBN expansion rate

The sensitivity of the lightest supersymmetric particle relic density calculation to the variation of the cosmological expansion rate before nucleosynthesis is discussed. We show that such a modification, even extremely modest and with no consequence on the cosmological observations, can greatly enhance the calculated relic density, and therefore change the constraints on the SUSY parameter space drastically. We illustrate this variation in two examples of SUSY models, and show that it is unsafe to use the lower bound of the WMAP limits in order to constrain supersymmetry. We therefore suggest to use only the upper value Omega_DM h^2 < 0.135.

Flavor Data Constraints on the SUSY Parameter Space

We present an overview of the indirect constraints from flavor physics on supersymmetric models. During the past few years flavor data, and in particular b -> s gamma transitions, have been extensively used in order to constrain supersymmetric parameter spaces. We will briefly illustrate here the constraints obtained by a collection of low energy observables including FCNC transitions, rare decays, leptonic and semileptonic decays of B mesons, as well as leptonic decays of K mesons. The theoretical predictions can be obtained using the computer program SuperIso.

New constraints on supersymmetric models from b -> s gamma

We provide an analysis of the parameter space of several supersymmetry breaking scenarios such as the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model and the non universal Higgs mass (NUHM) framework, as well as the Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking (AMSB) and the Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking (GMSB) models, in the light of a novel observable in b -> s gamma transitions, i.e. the isospin symmetry breaking in the exclusive B -> K* gamma decays. We find that in many cases, this observable provides severe restrictions on the allowed parameter space regions for the mentioned models. Moreover, we provide a few examples of investigations of the physical masses of supersymmetric particles and search for the excluded values. The constraints from the branching ratio associated to b -> s gamma are also presented here for all the examined parameter space regions. A comparison with B_s -> mu+ mu- branching ratio has also been performed.

Supersymmetric parameter constraints from isospin asymmetry in b -> s gamma transitions

Isospin asymmetry in b -> s gamma transitions provides severe constraints on new physics parameters, due to the small values of the experimental measurements. We exploit here this new observable to study different supersymmetric models. For this purpose, we calculate the isospin symmetry breaking in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation, considering NLO contributions. We study three scenarios for supersymmetry breaking, namely mSUGRA, AMSB and GMSB. In most of the explored regions, we find very restrictive constraints on the allowed parameters for these models.

Associated production of a Kaluza-Klein excitation of a gluon with a t t(bar) pair at the LHC

In Randall-Sundrum models, the Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of the gluon, g_{KK} have enhanced couplings to the right-handed quarks. In the absence of a gg g_{KK} coupling in these models, the single production of a g_{KK} from an initial gg state is not possible. The search for other production mechanisms at the LHC, therefore, becomes important. We suggest that the associated production of a g_{KK} with a t t(bar) pair is such a mechanism. Our study shows that through this process the LHC can probe KK gluon masses in the range of 2.8 -- 2.9 TeV.

SuperIso: A program for calculating the isospin asymmetry of B -> K* gamma in the MSSM

We present a program for calculating the isospin symmetry breaking of the B -> K* gamma decay in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation. This program calculates the NLO supersymmetric contributions to the isospin asymmetry, using the effective Hamiltonian approach and within the QCD factorization method. We show that isospin symmetry breaking proves to be a very restrictive observable, in particular in the mSUGRA parameter space. The program also calculates the inclusive branching ratio associated to b -> s gamma transition, as a comparison reference.

Tevatron constraint on the Kaluza-Klein gluon of the Bulk Randall-Sundrum model

The Bulk Randall-Sundrum model, where all Standard Model particles except the Higgs are free to propagate in the bulk, predicts the existence of Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of the gluon with a large branching into top-antitop pairs. We study the production of the lowest KK gluon mode at the Tevatron energy and use the data on the top cross-section from the Run II of Tevatron to put a bound on the mass of the KK gluon. The resulting bound of 800 GeV, while being much smaller than the constraints obtained on the KK gluon mass from flavour-changing neutral currents, is the first, direct collider bound which is independent of the specificities of the model.

Constraints on the mSUGRA parameter space from NLO calculation of isospin asymmetry in B -> K* gamma

The contributions of supersymmetric particles in the isospin symmetry violation in B -> K* gamma decay mode are investigated. The model parameters are adopted from minimal Supergravity with minimal flavor violation. A complete scan of the mSUGRA parameter space has been performed, using the next to leading supersymmetric contributions to the relevant Wilson coefficients. The results are compared to recent experimental data in order to obtain constraints on the parameter space. We point out that isospin asymmetry can prove to be an interesting observable and imposes severe restrictions on the allowed parameter space, in particular for large values of tan(beta). The constraints obtained with isospin asymmetry also appear as more restricting than the ones from the branching ratio of B -> X_s gamma.

Constraints on mSUGRA from isospin asymmetry in B -> K* gamma

We study the isospin asymmetry as an observable in exclusive B -> K* gamma decay that can be used to study the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. We present predictions for isospin asymmetry in Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with minimal flavor violation, using parameter values allowed by current experimental constraints. This observable can provide very tight constraints on the mSUGRA parameter space.

Les Houches Physics at TeV Colliders 2005, Standard Model and Higgs working group: Summary report

This Report summarises the activities of the "SM and Higgs" working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 2-20 May, 2005. On the one hand, we performed a variety of experimental and theoretical studies on standard candles (such as W, Z, and ttbar production), treating them either as proper signals of known physics, or as backgrounds to unknown physics; we also addressed issues relevant to those non-perturbative or semi-perturbative ingredients, such as Parton Density Functions and Underlying Events, whose understanding will be crucial for a proper simulation of the actual events taking place in the detectors. On the other hand, several channels for the production of the Higgs, or involving the Higgs, have been considered in some detail. The report is structured into four main parts. The first one deals with Standard Model physics, except the Higgs. A variety of arguments are treated here, from full simulation of processes constituting a background to Higgs production, to studies of uncertainties due to PDFs and to extrapolations of models for underlying events, from small-$x$ issues to electroweak corrections which may play a role in vector boson physics. The second part of the report treats Higgs physics from the point of view of the signal. In the third part, reviews are presented on the current status of multi-leg, next-to-leading order and of next-to-next-to-leading order QCD computations. Finally, the fourth part deals with the use of Monte Carlos for simulation of LHC physics.

Production and decay of gluino pairs at hadron colliders

At hadron colliders, one of the most important channels for sparticle production is expected to be the gluino pair production. In the scenario where the sbottom is lighter than the gluino, gluinos can decay into sbottom and bottom quarks. Sbottoms can subsequently decay into bottom quarks and neutralinos. Hence, one expects a rich signature consisting of four b-jets and the missing transverse energy from neutralinos. To compute the cross section of this reaction, it is important to find tools and techniques suitable for the calculation of diagrams with many particles in the final state. We present here a way to deal with such complicated reactions.

Les Houches 'Physics at Tev Colliders 2003' QCD/SM Working Group: Summary Report

This report documents the results obtained by the Working Group on Quantum Chromodynamics and the Standard Model for the Workshop `Physics at TeV Colliders'', Les Houches, France, 26 May - 6 June 2003. After a Monte Guide description, the first contributions report on progress in describing multiple interactions, important for the LHC, and underlying events. An announcement of a Monte Carlo database, under construction, is then followed by a number of contributions improving parton shower descriptions. Subsequently, a large number of contributions address resummations in various forms, after which follow studies of QCD effects in pion pair, top quark pair and photon pair plus jet production. After a study of electroweak corrections to hadronic precision observables, the report ends by presenting recent progress in methods to compute finite order corrections at one-loop with many legs, and at two-loop.

A compact representation of the 2 photon 3 gluon amplitude

A compact representation of the loop amplitude gamma gamma ggg -> 0 is presented. The result has been obtained by using helicity methods and sorting with respect to an irreducible function basis. We show how to convert spinor representations into a field strength representation of the amplitude. The amplitude defines a background contribution for Higgs boson searches at the LHC in the channel H -> gamma gamma + jet which was earlier extracted indirectly from the one-loop representation of the 5-gluon amplitude.
