The higher superconducting transition temperature T$_c$ and the functional derivative of T$_c$ with $α^2F(ω)$ for electron-phonon superconductors

This work presents an analysis of the functional derivative of the superconducting transition temperature T$_c$ with respect to the electron-phonon coupling function $α^2F(ω)$ [$δT_c/δα^2$F($ω$)] and $α^2F(ω)$ spectrum of H$_3$S ($Im\bar3m$), in the pressure range where the high-T$_c$ was measured (155-225 GPa). The calculations are done in the framework of the Migdal-Eliashberg theory. We find for this electron-phonon superconductor, a correlation between the maximums of $δT_c/δα^2$F($ω$) and $α^2F(ω)$ with its higher T$_c$. We corroborate this behavior in other electron-phonon superconductors by analyzing data available in the literature, which suggests its validity in this type of superconductors. The correlation observed could be considered as a theoretical tool that in an electron-phonon superconductor, allows describing qualitatively the proximity to its highest T$_c$, and determining the optimal physical conditions (pressure, alloying or doping concentration) that lead to the superconductor reaching its highest T$_c$ possible.

Analysis of the electrostratic field generated by a charge distribution on a dielectric layer loading a rectangular waveguide

The goal of this paper is to study the electrostatic field due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer in a dielectric-loaded rectangular waveguide. In order to obtain this electrostatic field, the potential due to a point charge on the dielectric layer is solved in advance. The high computational complexity of this problem requires the use of different numerical integration techniques (e.g. Filon, Gauss-Kronrod, Lobatto, ...) and interpolation methods. Using the principle of superposition, the potential due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer is obtained by adding the individual contribution of each point charge. Finally, a numerical differentiation of the potential is carried out to obtain the electrostatic field in the waveguide. The results of this electrostatic problem are going to be extended to model the multipactor effect, which is a problem of great interest in the space industry.

Analysis of mathematical techniques for the calculation of the electrostatic field in a dielectric-loaded waveguide

The resolution of the Green's function for obtaining the electrostatic potential generated by the charges located in the dielectric layer of a rectangular waveguide requires efficient integration techniques. Due to the characteristics and the oscillatory nature of the function to be integrated, the use of the Filon's method together with a convergence analysis is adequate. However, the application of this numerical integration technique can lead to numerical instabilities in the result. For this reason, in this research work we have presented two different methods to deal with these numerical errors of integration: SSA/MSSA and GPR. In this way it is possible to clean the electrostatic potential avoiding subsequent errors in the calculation of the electrostatic field.

Negative refraction in (bi)-isotropic periodic arrangements of chiral SRRs

Bi-isotropic and isotropic negative refractive index (NRI) 3D metamaterials made from periodic arrangements of chiral split ring resonators (SRRs) are proposed and demonstrated. An analytical theory for the characterization and design of these metamaterials is provided and validated by careful full-wave electromagnetic simulations. The reported results are expected to pave the way to the design of practical 3D bi-isotropic and isotropic NRI metamaterials made from a single kind of inclusions.

Balanced right/left-handed mixtures of quasi-planar chiral inclusions

Some novel quasi-planar chiral inclusions, feasible from standard photo-etching techniques, are proposed. It is shown that such inclusions can be designed in order to present balanced electric, magnetic and magneto-electric polarizabilities. Using these inclusions, random and periodic bi-isotropic artificial metamaterials exhibiting a balanced positive/negative refractive index can be build up. These metamaterials would exhibit reasonable bandwidths and excellent matching to free space.

Negative refraction from quasi-planar chiral inclusions

This letter proposes a quasi-planar chiral resonator suitable for the design of negative refractive index matamaterial. It is presented an analytical model for the determination of its polarizabilities, and the viability of negative refraction in chiral and racemic arrangements with the proposed inclusions is analyzed. The present analysis is expected to pave the way to the design of negative refractive index matamaterials made of a single kind of inclusions feasible from standard photo-etching techniques.

Three dimensional super-resolution in metamaterial slab lenses

This letter presents a theoretical and experimental study on the viability of obtaining three dimensional super-resolution (i.e. resolution overcoming the diffraction limit for all directions in space) by means of metamaterial slab lenses. Although the source field cannot be actually reproduced at the back side of the lens with super-resolution in all space directions, the matching capabilities of metamaterial slabs does make it possible the detection of images with three-dimensional super-resolution. This imaging takes place because of the coupling between the evanescent space harmonic components of the field generated at both the source and the detector.
