On Wormholes supported by phantom energy

By a combination of analytical and numerical techniques, we demonstrate the existence of spherical, asymptotically flat traversable wormholes supported by exotic matter whose stress tensor relative to the orthonormal frame of Killing observers takes the form of a perfect fluid possessing anisotropic pressures and subject to linear equations of state: $τ=λρc^{2}$, $P=μρc^{2}$. We show that there exists a four parameter family of asymptotically flat spherical wormholes parametrized by the area of the throat A(0), the gradient $Λ(0)$ of the red shift factor evaluated at the throat as well as the values of $(λ, μ)$. The latter are subject to restrictions: $λ>1$ and $2μ>λ$ or $λ<0$ and $2μ<-|λ|$. For particular values of $(λ, μ)$, the stress tensor may be interpreted as representing a phantom configuration, while for other values represents exotic matter. All solutions have the property that the two asymptotically flat ends posses finite ADM mass.

Accretion of phantom scalar field into a black hole

Using numerical methods we present the first full nonlinear study of phantom scalar field accreted into a black hole. We study different initial configurations and find that the accretion of the field into the black hole can reduce its area down to 50 percent within time scales of the order of few masses of the initial horizon. The analysis includes the cases where the total energy of the space-time is positive or negative. The confirmation of this effect in full nonlinear general relativity implies that the accretion of exotic matter could be considered an evaporation process. We speculate that if this sort of exotic matter has some cosmological significance, this black hole area reduction process might have played a crucial role in black hole formation and population.

Instability of wormholes supported by a ghost scalar field. I. Linear stability analysis

We examine the linear stability of static, spherically symmetric wormhole solutions of Einstein's field equations coupled to a massless ghost scalar field. These solutions are parametrized by the areal radius of their throat and the product of the masses at their asymptotically flat ends. We prove that all these solutions are unstable with respect to linear fluctuations and possess precisely one unstable, exponentially in time growing mode. The associated time scale is shown to be of the order of the wormhole throat divided by the speed of light. The nonlinear evolution is analyzed in a subsequent article.

Instability of wormholes supported by a ghost scalar field. II. Nonlinear evolution

We analyze the nonlinear evolution of spherically symmetric wormhole solutions coupled to a massless ghost scalar field using numerical methods. In a previous article we have shown that static wormholes with these properties are unstable with respect to linear perturbations. Here we show that depending on the initial perturbation the wormholes either expand or decay to a Schwarzschild black hole. We estimate the time scale of the expanding solutions and the ones collapsing to a black hole and show that they are consistent in the regime of small perturbations with those predicted from perturbation theory. In the collapsing case, we also present a systematic study of the final black hole horizon and discuss the possibility for a luminous signal to travel from one universe to the other and back before the black hole forms. In the expanding case, the wormholes seem to undergo an exponential expansion, at least during the run time of our simulations.

Do unbounded bubbles ultimately become fenced inside a black hole?

We examine the dynamical behavior of recently introduced bubbles in asymptotically flat, five-dimensional spacetimes. Using numerical methods, we find that even bubbles that initially start expanding eventually collapse to a Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black hole.

On the Space Time of a Galaxy

We present an exact solution of the averaged Einstein's field equations in the presence of two real scalar fields and a component of dust with spherical symmetry. We suggest that the space-time found provides the characteristics required by a galactic model that could explain the supermassive central object and the dark matter halo at once, since one of the fields constitutes a central oscillaton surrounded by the dust and the other scalar field distributes far from the coordinate center and can be interpreted as a halo. We show the behavior of the rotation curves all along the background. Thus, the solution could be a first approximation of a ``long exposition photograph'' of a galaxy.

Scalar Field Dark Matter

This work is a review of the last results of research on the Scalar Field Dark Matter model of the Universe at cosmological and at galactic level. We present the complete solution to the scalar field cosmological scenario in which the dark matter is modeled by a scalar field $Φ$ with the scalar potential $V(Φ)=V_{0}(cosh {(λ\sqrt{κ_{0}}Φ)}-1)$ and the dark energy is modeled by a scalar field $Ψ$, endowed with the scalar potential $\tilde{V}(Ψ)= \tilde{V_{0}}(\sinh{(α\sqrt{κ_{0}}Ψ)})^β$, which together compose the 95% of the total matter energy in the Universe. The model presents successfully deals with the up to date cosmological observations, and is a good candidate to treat the dark matter problem at the galactic level.

Spherical Scalar Field Halo in Galaxies

We study a spherically symmetric fluctuation of scalar dark matter in the cosmos and show that it could be the dark matter in galaxies, provided that the scalar field has an exponential potential whose overall sign is negative and whose exponent is constrained observationally by the rotation velocities of galaxies. The local space-time of the fluctuation contains a three dimensional space-like hypersurface with surplus of angle.

Scalar dark matter in spiral galaxies

An exact, axially symmetric solution to the Einstein-Klein-Gordon field equations is employed to model the dark matter in spiral galaxies. The extended rotation curves from a previous analysis are used to fit the model and a very good agreement is found. It is argued that, although our model possesses three parameters to be fitted, it is better than the non-relativistic alternatives in the sense that it is not of a phenomenological nature, since the dark matter would consist entirely of a scalar field.

Scalar Field as Dark Matter in the Universe

We investigate the hypothesis that the scalar field is the dark matter and the dark energy in the Cosmos, wich comprises about 95% of the matter of the Universe. We show that this hypothesis explains quite well the recent observations on type Ia supernovae.

Quintessence at Galactic Level?

Recently it has been proposed that the main contributor to the dark energy of the Universe is a dynamical, slow evolving, spatially inhomogeneous scalar field called quintessence. We investigate the behavior of this scalar field at galactic level by assuming that it is the dark matter compossing the halos of galaxies. Using an exact solution of the Einstein's equations we find an excellent concordance between our results and observations.
