$D^{*}D ρ$ vertex from QCD sum rules

We calculate the form factors and the coupling constant in the $D^{*}D ρ$ vertex in the framework of QCD sum rules. We evaluate the three point correlation functions of the vertex considering both $ D $ and $ ρ$ mesons off--shell. The form factors obtained are very different but give the same coupling constant: $g_{D^{*}D ρ} = 4.1 \pm 0.1$ GeV$^{-1}$.

Non-linear waves in a Quark Gluon Plasma

Recent measurements at RHIC suggest that a nearly perfect fluid of quarks and gluons is produced in AA collisions. Moreover the passage of supersonic partons through this medium seems to produce waves. These waves might pile up and form Mach cones, which would manifest themselves in the so called away-side jets, forming a broad structure in the angular distribution of the particles recoiling against a trigger jet of moderate energy. In most of the theoretical descriptions of these phenomena, the hydrodynamic equations are linearized for simplicity. We propose an alternative explanation for the observed broadening of the away-side peak. It is based on hydrodynamics but it is a consequence of the non-linearities of the equations, which instead of simple waves may lead to localized waves or even solitons. We investigate in detail the consequences of including the non-linear terms. We use a simple equation of state for the QGP and expand the hydrodynamic equations around equilibrium configurations. The resulting differential equations describe the propagation of perturbations in the energy density. We solve them numerically and find that localized perturbations can propagate for long distances in the plasma. Under certain conditions our solutions mimick the propagation of Korteweg - de Vries solitons.

QCD Sum Rules for the X(3872) as a mixed molecule-charmoniun state

We use QCD sum rules to test the nature of the meson X(3872), assumed to be a mixture between charmonium and exotic molecular [c\bar{q}][q\bar{c}] states with J^{PC}=1^{++}. We find that there is only a small range for the values of the mixing angle, θ, that can provide simultaneously good agreement with the experimental value of the mass and the decay width, and this range is θbetween 5 and 13 degrees. In this range we get m_X=(3.77 \pm 0.18) GeV and Γ(X to J/ψπ^+ π^-)=(9.3 \pm 6.9) MeV, which are compatible, within the errors, with the experimental values. We, therefore, conclude that the X(3872) is approximately 97% a charmonium state with 3% admixture of \sim 88% D^0D^{*0} molecule and \sim 12% D^+D^{*-} molecule.

Exclusive vector meson production in electron-ion collisions

We calculate the nuclear cross section for coherent and incoherent vector meson production within the QCD color dipole picture, including saturation effects. Theoretical estimates for scattering on both light and heavy nuclei are given over a wide range of energy.

Charm and longitudinal structure functions with the Kharzeev-Levin-Nardi model

We use the Kharzeev-Levin-Nardi model of the low $x$ gluon distributions to fit recent HERA data on charm and longitudinal structure functions. Having checked that this model gives a good description of the data, we use it to predict $F^c_2$ and $F_L$ to be measured in a future electron-ion collider. The results interpolate between those obtained with the de Florian-Sassot and Eskola-Paukkunen-Salgado nuclear gluon distributions. The conclusion of this exercise is that the KLN model, simple as it is, may still be used as an auxiliary tool to make estimates both for heavy ion and electron-ion collisions.

Could saturation effects be visible in a future electron-ion collider?

We expect to observe parton saturation in a future electron - ion collider. In this letter we discuss this expectation in more detail considering two different models which are in good agreement with the existing experimental data on nuclear structure functions. In particular, we study the predictions of saturation effects in electron - ion collisions at high energies, using a generalization for nuclear targets of the b-CGC model, which describes the $ep$ HERA quite well. We estimate the total, longitudinal and charm structure functions in the dipole picture and compare them with the predictions obtained using collinear factorization and modern sets of nuclear parton distributions. Our results show that inclusive observables are not very useful in the search for saturation effects. In the small $x$ region they are very difficult to disentangle from the predictions of the collinear approaches . This happens mainly because of the large uncertainties in the latter. On the other hand, our results indicate that the contribution of diffractive processes to the total cross section is about 20 % at large A and small Q^2, allowing for a detailed study of diffractive observables. The study of diffractive processes becomes essential to observe parton saturation.

Constraining the nuclear gluon distribution in $eA$ processes at RHIC

A systematic determination of the gluon distribution is of fundamental interest in understanding the parton structure of nuclei and the QCD dynamics. Currently, the behavior of this distribution at small $x$ (high energy) is completely undefined. In this paper we analyze the possibility of constraining the nuclear effects present in $xg^A$ using the inclusive observables which would be measured in the future electron-nucleus collider at RHIC. We demonstrate that the study of nuclear longitudinal and charm structure functions allows to estimate the magnitude of shadowing and antishadowing effects in the nuclear gluon distribution.

Sound waves and solitons in hot and dense nuclear matter

Assuming that nuclear matter can be treated as a perfect fluid, we study the propagation of perturbations in the baryon density. The equation of state is derived from a relativistic mean field model, which is a variant of the non-linear Walecka model. The expansion of the Euler and continuity equations of relativistic hydrodynamics around equilibrium configurations leads to differential equations for the density fluctuations. We solve them numerically for linear and spherical perturbations and follow the time evolution of the initial pulses. For linear perturbations we find single soliton solutions and solutions with one or more solitons followed by radiation. Depending on the equation of state a strong damping may occur. Spherical perturbations are strongly damped and almost do not propagate. We study these equations also for matter at finite temperature. Finally we consider the limiting case of shock wave formation.

Gluon saturation and the Froissart bound: a simple approach

At very high energies we expect that the hadronic cross sections satisfy the Froissart bound, which is a well-established property of the strong interactions. In this energy regime we also expect the formation of the Color Glass Condensate, characterized by gluon saturation and a typical momentum scale: the saturation scale $Q_s$. In this paper we show that if a saturation window exists between the nonperturbative and perturbative regimes of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the total cross sections satisfy the Froissart bound. Furthermore, we show that our approach allows us to describe the high energy experimental data on $pp/p\bar{p}$ total cross sections.

ρD^*D^* vertex from QCD sum rules

We calculate the form factors and the coupling constant in the $ρD^* D^*$ vertex in the framework of QCD sum rules. We evaluate the three point correlation functions of the vertex considering both $ρ$ and $D^*$ mesons off--shell. The form factors obtained are very different but give the same coupling constant: $g_{ρD^* D^*} = 6.6 \pm 0.31$. This number is 50% larger than what we would expect from SU(4) estimates.

Do the QCD sum rules support four-quark states?

We test the validity of the QCD sum rules applied to the light scalar mesons, the charmed mesons $D_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1} (2460)$, and the X(3872) axial meson, considered as tetraquark states. We find that, with the studied currents, it is possible to find an acceptable Borel window only for the X(3872) meson. In such a Borel window we have simultaneouly a good OPE convergence and a pole contribution which is bigger than the continuum contribution. We interpret these results as a strong argument against the assignment of a tetraquark structure for the light scalars and the $D_{s0}(2317)$ and $D_{s1} (2460)$ mesons.

Saturation physics at HERA and RHIC: An unified description

One of the frontiers of QCD which are intensely investigated in high energy experiments is the high energy (small $x$) regime, where we expect to observe the non-linear behavior of the theory. In this regime, the growth of the parton distribution should saturate, forming a Color Glass Condensate (CGC). In fact, signals of parton saturation have already been observed both in $ep$ deep inelastic scattering at HERA and in deuteron-gold collisions at RHIC. Currently, the description of the experimental data of these experiments is possible considering different phenomenological saturation models for the two processes within the CGC formalism. In this letter we analyze the universality of these dipole cross section parameterizations and verify that they are not able to describe the HERA and RHIC data simultaneously. We analyze possible improvements in the parameterizations and propose a new parametrization for the forward dipole amplitude which allows us to describe quite well the small-$x$ $ep$ HERA data on $F_2$ structure function as well as the $dAu$ RHIC data on charged hadron spectra. It is an important signature of the universality of the saturation physics.

Korteweg - de Vries solitons in relativistic hydrodynamics

In a previous work, assuming that the nucleus can be treated as a perfect fluid, we have studied the propagation of perturbations in the baryon density. For a given equation of state we have derived a Korteweg - de Vries (KdV) equation from Euler and continuity equations in non-relativistic hydrodynamics. Here, using a more general equation of state, we extend our formalism to relativistic hydrodynamics.

Investigating the tetraquark structure of the new mesons

Using the QCD sum rule approach we investigate the possible four-quark structure of the recently observed mesons $D_{sJ}^{+}(2317)$, firstly observed by BaBaR, X(3872), firstly observed by BELLE and $D_0^{*0}(2308)$ observed by BELLE. We use diquark-antidiquark currents and work in full QCD, without relying on $1/m_c$ expansion. Our results indicate that a four-quark structure is acceptable for these mesons.

$X(3872)\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $X(3872)\to J/ψπ^+π^-π^0$ decay widths from QCD sum rules

New spectroscopy from the B factories, the advent of CLEO-c and the BES upgrade renewed the interest in charmonia. Among the new measurements, the state X(3872) has received special attention due to its unexpected properties. Its structure has been studied with different theoretical approaches, most of them being able to reproduce the measured mass. A further test for the theoretical descriptions of the X(3872) is to explain its narrow decay width. In this work we address the decays $X\to J/ψπ^+π^-π^0$ and $X\to J/ψπ^+ π^-$, using QCD sum rules with the hypothesis that $X$ is a four quark state.
