Relativistic versus Newtonian frames: emission coordinates

Only a causal class among the 199 Lorentzian ones, which do not exists in the Newtonian spacetime, is privileged to construct a generic, gravity free and immediate (non retarded) relativistic positioning system. This is the causal class of the null emission coordinates. Emission coordinates are defined and generated by four emitters broadcasting their proper times. The emission coordinates are covariant (frame independent) and hence valid for any user. Any observer can obtain the values of his(her) null emission coordinates from the emitters which provide him his(her) trajectory.

Numerical treatment of the light propagation problem in the post-Newtonian formalism

The geometry of a light wavefront, evolving from a initial flat wavefront in the 3-space associated with a post-Newtonian relativistic spacetime, is studied numerically by means of the ray tracing method. For a discretization of the bidimensional light wavefront, a surface fitting technique is used to determine the curvature of this surface. The relationship between the intrinsic curvature of the wavefront and the change of the arrival time at different points on the Earth is also numerically discussed.

Numerical estimation of the curvature of a light wavefront in a weak gravitational field

The geometry of a light wavefront evolving in the 3--space associated with a post-Newtonian relativistic spacetime from a flat wavefront is studied numerically by means of the ray tracing method. For a discretization of the bidimensional wavefront the surface fitting technique is used to determine the curvature of this surface at each vertex of the mesh. The relationship between the curvature of a wavefront and the change of the arrival time at different points on the Earth is also numerically discussed.

Geometry of an accelerated rotating disk

We analyze the geometry of a rotating disk with a tangential acceleration in the framework of the Special Theory of Relativity, using the kinematic linear differential system that verifies the relative position vector of time-like curves in a Fermi reference. A numerical integration of these equations for a generic initial value problem is made up and the results are compared with those obtained in other works.

Isotropy of the velocity of light and the Sagnac effect

In this paper, it is shown, using a geometrical approach, the isotropy of the velocity of light measured in a rotating frame in Minkowski space-time, and it is verified that this result is compatible with the Sagnac effect. Furthermore, we find that this problem can be reduced to the solution of geodesic triangles in a Minkowskian cylinder. A relationship between the problems established on the cylinder and on the Minkowskian plane is obtained through a local isometry.
