Description of fully differential Drell-Yan pair production

We investigate Drell-Yan pair production in a QCD inspired model, which takes into account all relevant hard processes up to $O(α_s)$. To address the known shortfalls of such a fixed order calculation we introduce phenomenological parton distributions for initial transverse momentum and quark mass, and devise a subtraction scheme to avoid double-counting when utilizing the standard longitudinal parton distribution functions. We show that we can reproduce Drell-Yan transverse momentum and invariant mass spectra from different proton-proton, proton-nucleus and antiproton-nucleus experiments and at different energies without the need for a $K$ factor. Fixing our parameters at these spectra, we make predictions for Drell-Yan transverse momentum spectra at low hadronic energies, which will be measured for example at $\bar{\text{P}}$ANDA in antiproton-proton collisions.

Phenomenological model for the Drell-Yan process: Reexamined

Drell-Yan pair production is investigated. We reexamine a model where the quark momentum fraction is defined as the ratio of the corresponding light cone components of the quark and parent nucleon in a naive parton-model approach. It is shown that results differ from the standard parton model. This is due to unphysical solutions for the momentum fractions within the naive approach which are not present in the standard parton model. In a calculation employing full quark kinematics, i.e. including primordial quark transverse momentum, these solutions also appear. A prescription is given to handle these solutions in order to avoid misleading results. The impact of these solutions in the full kinematical approach is demonstrated and compared to the modified result.

Hadrons in Medium -- Theory confronts experiment

In this talk we briefly summarize our theoretical understanding of in-medium selfenergies of hadrons. With the special case of the $ω$ meson we demonstrate that earlier calculations that predicted a significant lowering of the mass in medium are based on an incorrect treatment of the model Lagrangian; more consistent calculations lead to a significant broadening, but hardly any mass shift. We stress that the experimental reconstruction of hadron spectral functions from measured decay products always requires knowledge of the decay branching ratios which may also be strongly mass-dependent. It also requires a quantitatively reliable treatment of final state interactions which has to be part of any reliable theory.

Omega mesons in medium - revisited

Recent experimental observation by the CBELSA/TAPS collaboration indicates a downward mass shift of the $ω$ meson when put into a nuclear medium. Therefore it is worthwhile to take a look at theoretical approaches that can describe this mass shift. One such hadronic model was introduced by Klingl et al. (Nucl.Phys. A650:299-312). We will demonstrate that the heavy baryon limit approximation used there has no justification and returns wrong results. The results obtained with a correct treatment of the relevant $2π$-channel lead to unreasonable results for the $ω$ selfenergy in medium.
