An optimal local theory for reaction-diffusion equations driven by non-trace-class noise

We study local well-posedness for a class of stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by multiplicative, possibly colored, noise. The interaction between rough stochastic forcing and polynomial nonlinearities naturally leads to solutions with low spatial regularity, making the treatment of the nonlinear terms delicate. Our main contribution is a general local existence and uniqueness theory for SPDEs with rough noise and highly irregular initial data. The framework also yields new results in standard noise regimes, including trace-class noise and space-time white noise. We identify the critical initial-data spaces for a wide range of nonlinearities, and we establish instantaneous parabolic regularization, general blow-up criteria, and sufficient conditions for positivity preservation. We apply the abstract theory to several prototypical models, including the stochastic Allen-Cahn, Burgers, Fisher-KPP, and coupled Gray-Scott equations. Finally, in the one-dimensional space-time white-noise setting, we combine our local theory with existing global a priori results in a highly singular regime.

An extended variational setting for critical SPDEs with Lévy noise

The critical variational setting was recently introduced and shown to be applicable to many important SPDEs not covered by the classical variational setting. In this paper, we extend the critical variational setting in several ways. We introduce a flexibility in the range space for the nonlinear drift term, due to which certain borderline cases can now also be included. An example of this is the Allen-Cahn equation in dimension two in the weak setting. In addition to this, we allow the drift to be singular in time, which is something that naturally arises in the study of the skeleton equations for large deviation principles for SPDEs. Last but not least, we present the theory in the case of Lévy noise for which the critical setting was not available yet.

Sharp bounds for non-trace class noise and applications to SPDEs

In the study of stochastic PDEs with colored, non-trace class space-time noise, one frequently encounters Gaussian series of the form $$g \sum_{n\geq 1} \gamma_n \mu_n f_n, $$ where $(\gamma_n)_{n}$ is a sequence of standard independent Gaussian variables, $g$ is an $L^\eta(\mathcal{O})$ function, $(\mu_n)_{n}$ is a sequence of scalars, and $(f_n)_n$ is an orthonormal system in $L^2(\mathcal{O})$ where $\mathcal{O} \subseteq \mathbb{R}^d$ is an open set. In this manuscript, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the above sum to converge in Bessel potential spaces $H^{-s,q}(\mathcal{O})$. The latter can be interpreted as a Sobolev embedding for Gaussian series. Our main theorem is formulated using weighted sequence spaces that encode the $L^\infty$-growth of the orthonormal system $(f_n)_{n}$, a feature that is crucial for obtaining sharp estimates. We apply our results to the stochastic heat equation with additive non-trace class noise. In this case, our conditions capture the scaling relationship between the heat operator and the coloring of the noise.

On partially observed jump diffusions II. The filtering density

A partially observed jump diffusion $Z=(X_t,Y_t)_{t\in[0,T]}$ given by a stochastic differential equation driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures is considered when the coefficients of the equation satisfy appropriate Lipschitz and growth conditions. Under general conditions it is shown that the conditional density of the unobserved component $X_t$ given the observations $(Y_s)_{s\in[0,T]}$ exists and belongs to $L_p$ if the conditional density of $X_0$ given $Y_0$ exists and belongs to $L_p$.

On partially observed jump diffusions III. Regularity of the filtering density

The filtering equations associated to a partially observed jump diffusion model $(Z_t)_{t\in [0,T]}=(X_t,Y_t)_{t\in [0,T]}$, driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures are considered. Building on results from two preceding articles on the filtering equations, the regularity of the conditional density of the signal $X_t$, given observations $(Y_s)_{s\in [0,t]}$, is investigated, when the conditional density of $X_0$ given $Y_0$ exists and belongs to a Sobolev space, and the coefficients satisfy appropriate smoothness and growth conditions.

Learning the conditional law: signatures and conditional GANs in filtering and prediction of diffusion processes

We consider the filtering and prediction problem for a diffusion process. The signal and observation are modeled by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by correlated Wiener processes. In classical estimation theory, measure-valued stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) are derived for the filtering and prediction measures. These equations can be hard to solve numerically. We provide an approximation algorithm using conditional generative adversarial networks (GANs) in combination with signatures, an object from rough path theory. The signature of a sufficiently smooth path determines the path completely. As a result, in some cases, GANs based on signatures have been shown to efficiently approximate the law of a stochastic process. For our algorithm we extend this method to sample from the conditional law, given noisy, partial observation. Our generator is constructed using neural differential equations (NDEs), relying on their universal approximator property. We show well-posedness in providing a rigorous mathematical framework. Numerical results show the efficiency of our algorithm.

On partially observed jump diffusions I. The filtering equations

This paper is the first part of a series of papers on filtering for partially observed jump diffusions satisfying a stochastic differential equation driven by Wiener processes and Poisson martingale measures. The coefficients of the equation only satisfy appropriate growth conditions. Some results in filtering theory of diffusion processes are extended to jump diffusions and equations for the time evolution of the conditional distribution and the unnormalised conditional distribution of the unobserved process at time $t$, given the observations until $t$, are presented.

Extended Kalman filter based observer design for semilinear infinite-dimensional systems

In many physical applications, the system's state varies with spatial variables as well as time. The state of such systems is modelled by partial differential equations and evolves on an infinite-dimensional space. Systems modelled by delay-differential equations are also infinite-dimensional systems. The full state of these systems cannot be measured. Observer design is an important tool for estimating the state from available measurements. For linear systems, both finite- and infinite-dimensional, the Kalman filter provides an estimate with minimum-variance on the error, if certain assumptions on the noise are satisfied. The extended Kalman filter (EKF) is one type of extension to nonlinear finite-dimensional systems. In this paper we provide an extension of the EKF to semilinear infinite-dimensional systems. Under mild assumptions we prove the well-posedness of equations defining the EKF. Local exponential stability of the error dynamics is shown. Only detectability is assumed, not observability, so this result is new even for finite-dimensional systems. The results are illustrated with implementation of finite-dimensional approximations of the infinite-dimensional EKF on an example.
