Existence, degeneracy and stability of ground states by logarithmic Sobolev inequalities on Clifford algebras

We prove existence and finite degeneracy of ground states of energy forms satisfying logarithmic Sobolev inequalities with respect to non vacuum states of Clifford algebras. We then derive the stability of the ground state with respect to certain unbounded perturbations of the energy form. Finally, we show how this provides an infinitesimal approach to existence and uniqueness of the ground state of Hamiltonians considered by L. Gross in QFT, describing spin $1/2$ Dirac particles subject to interactions with an external scalar field.

Self-Similar Topological Fractals

We introduce the notion of (abelian) similarity scheme, as a constructive model for topological self-similar fractals, in the same way in which the notion of iterated function system furnishes a constructive notion of self-similar fractals in a metric environment. At the same time, our notion gives a constructive approach to the Kigami-Kameyama notion of topological fractals, since a similarity scheme produces a topological fractal a la Kigami-Kameyama, and many Kigami-Kameyama topological fractals may be constructed via similarity schemes. Our scheme consists of objects $X_0\stackrelφ{\rightarrow}X_1\stackrelπ{\leftarrow} Y\times X_0$, where $X_0,X_1$ and $Y$ are compact Hausdorff spaces, the map $φ$ is continuous injective and the map $π$ is continuous surjective. This scheme produces a sequence $X_n$, $n\in\mathbb{N}$, of compact Hausdorff spaces, $X_n$ embedded in $X_{n+1}$, and a compact Hausdorff space $X_\infty$ giving a sort of injective limit space, which turns out to be self-similar. We observe that the space $Y$ parametrizes the generalized similarity maps, and finiteness of $Y$ is not required.

KMS Dirichlet forms, coercivity and super-bounded Markovian semigroups on von Neumann algebras

We introduce a construction of Dirichlet forms on von Neumann algebras M associated to any eigenvalue of the Araki modular Hamiltonian of a faithful normal non tracial state, providing also conditions by which the associated Markovian semigroups are GNS symmetric. The structure of these Dirichlet forms is described in terms of spatial derivations. Coercivity bounds are proved and the spectral growth is derived. We introduce a regularizing property of positivity preserving semigroups (superboundedness) stronger than hypercontractivity, in terms of the symmetric embedding of M into its standard space L2(M) and the associated noncommutative Lp(M) spaces. We prove superboundedness for a special class of positivity preserving semigroups and that some of them are dominated by the Markovian semigroups associated to the Dirichlet forms introduced above, for type I factors M. These tools are applied to a general construction of the quantum Ornstein-Uhlembeck semigroups of the Canonical Commutation Relations CCR and some of their non-perturbative deformations.

Quantum differentials of Spectral triples, Dirichlet spaces and discrete groups

We study natural conditions on essentially discrete spectral triples by which the quantum differential $da$ belongs to the ideal generated by the unit length $ds=D^{-1}$. We also study upper and lower bounds on the singular values of the $da$'s and apply the general framework to natural spectral triples of Dirichlet spaces and, in particular, those on dual of discrete groups arising from negative definite functions.

Measurability, Spectral Densities and Hypertracesin Noncommutative Geometry

We introduce, in the dual Macaev ideal of compact operators of a Hilbert space, the spectral weight $ρ(L)$ of a positive, self-adjoint operator $L$ having discrete spectrum away from zero. We provide criteria for its measurability and unitarity of its Dixmier traces ($ρ(L)$ is then called spectral density) in terms of the growth of the spectral multiplicities of $L$ or in terms of the asymptotic continuity of the eigenvalue counting function $N_L$. Existence of meromorphic extensions and residues of the $ζ$-function $ζ_L$ of a spectral density are provided under summability conditions on spectral multiplicities. The hypertrace property of the states $Ω_L(\cdot)={\rm Tr\,}_ω(\cdotρ(L))$ on the norm closure of the Lipschitz algebra $\mathcal{A}_L$ follows if the relative multiplicities of $L$ vanish faster than its spectral gaps or if $N_L$ is asymptotically regular.

Listening to the shape of a drum

The aim of this work is to link the quasiconformal geometry of a Euclidean domain $U$ to the spectral properties of its Dirichlet integral $\D$, through the algebra of multipliers $\M(H^{1,2}(U))$ of the Sobolev space. In the main result we prove that a homeomorphism $γ:U\toγ(U)$ between Euclidean domains, giving rise to an algebraic isomorphism $a\mapsto a\circγ$ between $\M(H^{1,2}(γ(V)))$ and $\M(H^{1,2}(V))$ for any relatively compact domain $V\subseteq U$ and leaving invariant the corresponding fundamental tones (first non zero eigenvalues) of $\D$ \[ μ_1(γ(V),a)=μ_1(V,a\circγ)\, , \] is quasiconformal. A companion characterization hold true for bounded distortion maps. In the converse direction we prove that for $n\ge 3$\\ i) the Möbius group $G(\R^n)$ acts isometrically on the algebra of multipliers $\M(H^{1,2}_e(\R^n))$ of the extended space $H^{1,2}_e(\R^n)$\\ ii) $(\D,H^{1,2}(\R^n))$ is a closable quadratic form on $L^2(\R^n,Γ[a])$ with respect to the energy measure $Γ[a]=|\nabla a|^2\, dx$ of any $a\in \M(H^{1,2}_e(\R^n))$\\ iii) for any $γ\in G(\R^n)$, the form closure $(\D,\F^a)$ of $(\D,H^{1,2}(\R^n))$ is a Dirichlet form on $L^2(\R^n,Γ[a])$, unitarily equivalent to $(\D,\F^{a\circγ})$ on $L^2(\R^n,Γ[a\circγ])$. The results are based on connections between fundamental tones and ergodic properties of multipliers: in particular, it is shown that the fundamental tone of $(\D,\F^a)$ on $L^2(U,Γ[a])$ is non vanishing $μ_1(U,a)>0$ for any fully supported $a\in\M(H^{1,2}(U))$, provided there exists a spectral gap for the usual Laplacian.

The emergence of Noncommutative Potential Theory

We review origins and developments of Noncommutative Potential theory as underpinned by the notion of energy form. Recent and new applications are shown to approximation properties of von Neumann algebras.

On the eigenvalue counting function for Schrödinger operator: some upper bounds

The aim of this work is to provide an upper bound on the eigenvalues counting function $N(\mathbb{R}^n,-Δ+V,e)$ of a Schödinger operator $-Δ+V$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$ corresponding to a potential $V\in L^{\frac{n}{2}+\varepsilon}(\mathbb{R}^n,dx)$, in terms of the sum of the eigenvalues counting function of the Dirichlet integral $\mathcal{D}$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions on the subpotential domain $\{V< e\}$, endowed with weighted Lebesgue measure $(V-e)_-\cdot dx$ and the eigenvalues counting function of the absorption-to-reflection operator on the equipotential surface $\{V=e\}$.
