Genus stabilization for the homology of moduli spaces of orbit-framed curves with symmetries-I

In a previous paper, arXiv:1301.4409, we showed that the moduli space of curves C with a G-symmetry (that is, with a faithful action of a finite group G), having a fixed generalized homological invariant, is irreducible if the genus g' of the quotient curve C' : = C/G satisfies g'>>0. Interpreting this result as stabilization for the 0-th homology group of the moduli space of curves with G-symmetry, we begin here a program for showing genus stabilization for all the homology groups of these spaces, in similarity to the results of Harer for the moduli space of curves. In this first paper we prove homology stabilization for a variant of the moduli space where one G-orbit is tangentially framed.

Jordan property for automorphism groups of compact spaces in Fujiki's class $C$

Let $X$ be a compact complex space in Fujiki's Class $C$. We show that the group $Aut(X)$ of all biholomorphic automorphisms of $X$ has the Jordan property: there is a (Jordan) constant $J = J(X)$ such that any finite subgroup $G\le Aut(X)$ has an abelian subgroup $H\le G$ with the index $[G:H]\le J$. This extends, with a quite different method, the result of Prokhorov and Shramov for Moishezon threefolds.

On the motive of zero-dimensional Quot schemes on a curve

For any locally free coherent sheaf on a fixed smooth projective curve, we study the class, in the Grothendieck ring of varieties, of the Quot scheme that parametrizes zero-dimensional quotients of the sheaf. We prove that this class depends only on the rank of the sheaf and on the length of the quotients. As an application, we obtain an explicit formula that expresses it in terms of the symmetric products of the curve.

On Ruan's Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture for the complexified Bianchi orbifolds

We give formulae for the Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology for the orbifolds given by a Bianchi group acting on complex hyperbolic 3-space. The Bianchi groups are the arithmetic groups PSL\_2(A), where A is the ring of integers in an imaginary quadratic number field. The underlying real orbifolds which help us in our study, given by the action of a Bianchi group on real hyperbolic 3-space (which is a model for its classifying space for proper actions), have applications in physics.We then prove that, for any such orbifold, its Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology ring is isomorphic to the usual cohomology ring of any crepant resolution of its coarse moduli space.By vanishing of the quantum corrections, we show that this result fits in with Ruan's Cohomological Crepant Resolution Conjecture.

Dihedral Galois covers of algebraic varieties and the simple cases

In this article we investigate the algebra and geometry of dihedral covers of smooth algebraic varieties. To this aim we first describe the Weil divisors and the Picard group of divisorial sheaves on normal double covers. Then we provide a structure theorem for dihedral covers, that is, given a smooth variety Y, we describe the algebraic "building data" on Y which are equivalent to the existence of such covers X --> Y. We introduce then two special very explicit classes of dihedral covers: the simple and the almost simple dihedral covers, and we determine their basic invariants. For the simple dihedral covers we also determine their natural deformations. In the last section we give an application to fundamental groups.

The irreducible components of the moduli space of dihedral covers of algebraic curves

In this paper we introduce a new invariant for the action of a finite group $G$ on a compact complex curve of genus $g$. With the aid of this invariant we achieve the classification of the components of the moduli space of curves with an effective action by the dihedral group $D_n$. This invariant has been used in the meanwhile by the authors in order to extend the genus stabilization result of Livingston and Dunfield and Thurston to the ramified case. This new version contains an appendix clarifying the correspondence between the above components and the image loci in the moduli space M_g (classifying when two such components have the same image).

Pseudo-Automorphisms of positive entropy on the blowups of products of projective spaces

We use a concise method to construct pseudo-automorphisms f_n of the first dynamical degree d_1(f_n) > 1 on the blowups of the projective n-space for all n > 1 and more generally on the blowups of products of projective spaces. These f_n, for n = 3 have positive entropy, and for n > 3 seem to be the first examples of pseudo-automorphisms with d_1(f_n) > 1 (and of non-product type) on rational varieties of higher dimensions.

Genus stabilization for moduli of curves with symmetries

In a previous paper, arXiv:1206.5498, we introduced a new homological invariant $\e$ for the faithful action of a finite group G on an algebraic curve. We show here that the moduli space of curves admitting a faithful action of a finite group G with a fixed homological invariant $\e$, if the genus g' of the quotient curve is sufficiently large, is irreducible (and non empty iff the class satisfies the condition which we define as 'admissibility'). In the unramified case, a similar result had been proven by Dunfield and Thurston using the classical invariant in the second homology group of G, H_2(G, \ZZ). We achieve our result showing that the stable classes are in bijection with the set of admissible classes $\e$.

Irreducibility of the space of dihedral covers of the projective line of a given numerical type

We show in this paper that the set of irreducible components of the family of Galois coverings of P^1_C with Galois group isomorphic to D_n is in bijection with the set of possible numerical types. In this special case the numerical type is the equivalence class (for automorphisms of D_n) of the function which to each conjugacy class \mathcal{C} in D_n associates the number of branch points whose local monodromy lies in the class \mathcal{C}.

A note on toric Deligne-Mumford stacks

We give a new description of the data needed to specify a morphism from a scheme to a toric Deligne-Mumford stack. The description is given in terms of a collection of line bundles and sections which satisfy certain conditions. As applications, we characterize any toric Deligne-Mumford stack as a product of roots of line bundles over the rigidified stack, describe the torus action, describe morphisms between toric Deligne-Mumford stacks with complete coarse moduli spaces in terms of homogeneous polynomials, and compare two different definitions of toric stacks.

The cohomological crepant resolution conjecture for P(1,3,4,4)

We prove the cohomological crepant resolution conjecture of Ruan for the weighted projective space P(1,3,4,4). To compute the quantum corrected cohomology ring we combine the results of Coates-Corti-Iritani-Tseng on P(1,1,1,3) and our previous results.

Crepant resolutions of weighted projective spaces and quantum deformations

We compare the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring of the weighted projective spaces $\IP(1,3,4,4)$ and $\IP(1,...,1,n)$ with the cohomology ring of their crepant resolutions. In both cases, we prove that the Chen-Ruan cohomology ring is isomorphic to the quantum corrected cohomology ring of the crepant resolution after suitable evaluation of the quantum parameters. For this, we prove a formula for the Gromov-Witten invariants of the resolution of a transversal ${\rm A}_3$ singularity.
