Efficient Estimation of Sensitivity Indices

In this paper we address the problem of efficient estimation of Sobol sensitivy indices. First, we focus on general functional integrals of conditional moments of the form $\E(ψ(\E(φ(Y)|X)))$ where $(X,Y)$ is a random vector with joint density $f$ and $ψ$ and $φ$ are functions that are differentiable enough. In particular, we show that asymptotical efficient estimation of this functional boils down to the estimation of crossed quadratic functionals. An efficient estimate of first-order sensitivity indices is then derived as a special case. We investigate its properties on several analytical functions and illustrate its interest on a reservoir engineering case.

Generalized Hoeffding-Sobol Decomposition for Dependent Variables -Application to Sensitivity Analysis

In this paper, we consider a regression model built on dependent variables. This regression modelizes an input output relationship. Under boundedness assumptions on the joint distribution function of the input variables, we show that a generalized Hoeffding-Sobol decomposition is available. This leads to new indices measuring the sensitivity of the output with respect to the input variables. We also study and discuss the estimation of these new indices.

LAN property for some fractional type Brownian motion

We study asymptotic expansion of the likelihood of a certain class of Gaussian processes characterized by their spectral density $f_θ$. We consider the case where $f_θ\PAR{x} \sim_{x\to 0} \ABS{x}^{-\al(θ)}L_θ(x)$ with $L_θ$ a slowly varying function and $\al\PARθ\in (-\infty,1)$. We prove LAN property for these models which include in particular fractional Brownian motion %$B^α_t,\: α\geq 1/2$ or ARFIMA processes.

Large Deviations for Random Matricial Moment Problems

We consider the moment space $\mathcal{M}_n^{K}$ corresponding to $p \times p$ complex matrix measures defined on $K$ ($K=[0,1]$ or $K=\D$). We endow this set with the uniform law. We are mainly interested in large deviations principles (LDP) when $n \rightarrow \infty$. First we fix an integer $k$ and study the vector of the first $k$ components of a random element of $\mathcal{M}_n^{K}$. We obtain a LDP in the set of $k$-arrays of $p\times p$ matrices. Then we lift a random element of $\mathcal{M}_n^{K}$ into a random measure and prove a LDP at the level of random measures. We end with a LDP on Carthéodory and Schur random functions. These last functions are well connected to the above random measure. In all these problems, we take advantage of the so-called canonical moments technique by introducing new (matricial) random variables that are independent and have explicit distributions.

Estimation error for blind Gaussian time series prediction

We tackle the issue of the blind prediction of a Gaussian time series. For this, we construct a projection operator build by plugging an empirical covariance estimation into a Schur complement decomposition of the projector. This operator is then used to compute the predictor. Rates of convergence of the estimates are given.

Large Deviations for Random Spectral Measures and Sum Rules

We prove a Large Deviation Principle for the random spec- tral measure associated to the pair $(H_N; e)$ where $H_N$ is sampled in the GUE(N) and e is a fixed unit vector (and more generally in the $β$- extension of this model). The rate function consists of two parts. The contribution of the absolutely continuous part of the measure is the reversed Kullback information with respect to the semicircle distribution and the contribution of the singular part is connected to the rate function of the extreme eigenvalue in the GUE. This method is also applied to the Laguerre and Jacobi ensembles, but in thoses cases the expression of the rate function is not so explicit.

Generalized Dirichlet distributions on the ball and moments

The geometry of unit $N$-dimensional $\ell_{p}$ balls has been intensively investigated in the past decades. A particular topic of interest has been the study of the asymptotics of their projections. Apart from their intrinsic interest, such questions have applications in several probabilistic and geometric contexts (Barthe et al. 2005). In this paper, our aim is to revisit some known results of this flavour with a new point of view. Roughly speaking, we will endow the ball with some kind of Dirichlet distribution that generalizes the uniform one and will follow the method developed in Skibinsky (1967), Chang et al. (1993) in the context of the randomized moment space. The main idea is to build a suitable coordinate change involving independent random variables. Moreover, we will shed light on a nice connection between the randomized balls and the randomized moment space.

Maximum Entropy Estimation for Survey sampling

Calibration methods have been widely studied in survey sampling over the last decades. Viewing calibration as an inverse problem, we extend the calibration technique by using a maximum entropy method. Finding the optimal weights is achieved by considering random weights and looking for a discrete distribution which maximizes an entropy under the calibration constraint. This method points a new frame for the computation of such estimates and the investigation of its statistical properties.

Canonical moments and random spectral measures

We study some connections between the random moment problem and the random matrix theory. A uniform draw in a space of moments can be lifted into the spectral probability measure of the pair (A,e) where A is a random matrix from a classical ensemble and e is a fixed unit vector. This random measure is a weighted sampling among the eigenvalues of A. We also study the large deviations properties of this random measure when the dimension of the matrix grows. The rate function for these large deviations involves the reversed Kullback information.

Local Polynomial Estimation for Sensitivity Analysis on Models With Correlated Inputs

Sensitivity indices when the inputs of a model are not independent are estimated by local polynomial techniques. Two original estimators based on local polynomial smoothers are proposed. Both have good theoretical properties which are exhibited and also illustrated through analytical examples. They are used to carry out a sensitivity analysis on a real case of a kinetic model with correlated parameters.

Semi-parametric estimation of shifts

We observe a large number of functions differing from each other only by a translation parameter. While the main pattern is unknown, we propose to estimate the shift parameters using $M$-estimators. Fourier transform enables to transform this statistical problem into a semi-parametric framework. We study the convergence of the estimator and provide its asymptotic behavior. Moreover, we use the method in the applied case of velocity curve forecasting.

Large Deviations for Random Power Moment Problem

We consider the set M_n of all n-truncated power moment sequences of probability measures on [0,1]. We endow this set with the uniform probability. Picking randomly a point in M_n, we show that the upper canonical measure associated with this point satisfies a large deviation principle. Moderate deviation are also studied completing earlier results on asymptotic normality given by \citeauthorChKS93 [Ann. Probab. 21 (1993) 1295-1309]. Surprisingly, our large deviations results allow us to compute explicitly the (n+1)th moment range size of the set of all probability measures having the same n first moments. The main tool to obtain these results is the representation of M_n on canonical moments [see the book of \citeauthorDS97].
