Dynamical metric order

We introduce the notion of dynamical metric order of a continuous map on a compact metric space, study its basic properties, and compute it for several classes of maps. This concept which is a counterpart of the metric mean dimension with the role of the box-counting dimension being played by the metric order. It is devised for maps acting on spaces with infinite box-counting dimension but finite metric order. For example, it brings forward new information about full shifts whose alphabets have infinite box-counting dimension; and provides a sharper estimate of complexity for the induced map determined by a continuous transformation on a compact metric space, whose upper metric mean dimension is known to admit only two values (zero or infinity). We also show that it satisfies a variational principle where maximization is taken over the space of invariant probability measures and whose equilibrium states always exist.

Variational principles for metric mean dimension with potential of level sets

We establish three variational principles for the upper metric mean dimension with potential of level sets of continuous maps in terms of the entropy of partitions and Katok's entropy of the underlying system. Our results hold for dynamical systems exhibiting the specification property. Moreover, we apply our results to study the metric mean dimension of suspension flows.

A variational principle for the metric mean dimension of level sets

We prove a variational principle for the upper and lower metric mean dimension of level sets \[ \left\{x\in X: \lim_{n\to\infty}\frac{1}{n}\sum_{j=0}^{n-1}φ(f^{j}(x))=α\right\} \] associated to continuous potentials $φ:X\to \mathbb R$ and continuous dynamics $f:X\to X$ defined on compact metric spaces and exhibiting the specification property. This result relates the upper and lower metric mean dimension of the above mentioned sets with growth rates of measure-theoretic entropy of partitions decreasing in diameter associated to some special measures. Moreover, we present several examples to which our result may be applied to. Similar results were previously known for the topological entropy and for the topological pressure.

Topological and metric emergence of continuous maps

We prove that the homeomorphisms of a compact manifold with dimension one have zero topological emergence, whereas in dimension greater than one the topological emergence of a C^0-generic conservative homeomorphism is maximal, equal to the dimension of the manifold. Moreover, we show that the metric emergence of continuous self-maps on compact metric spaces has the intermediate value property.

Topological entropy for partial actions of the group $\mathbb Z$

In this paper we introduce the definition of entropy for a partial $\mathbb{Z}$-action. We show that the definition of partial entropy is an extension of the definition of topological entropy for a $\mathbb Z$-action. We also prove that the partial topological entropy is concentrated on the non-wandering set.

Entropy points and applications for free semigroup actions

The aim of this manuscript is to study some local properties of the topological entropy of a free semigroup action. In order to do that we focus on the set of entropy points of a free semigroup action, show that this set carries the full entropy of the system (which, with respect to the chaocity of the system, gives a fundamental relevance to such set) and obtain many interesting properties of such set. Our results are inspired by the ones presented in \cite{YZ}.

Some variational principles for the metric mean dimension of a semigroup action

In this manuscript we show that the metric mean dimension of a free semigroup action satisfies three variational principles: (a) the first one is based on a definition of Shapira's entropy, introduced in \cite{SH} for a singles dynamics and extended for a semigroup action in this note; (b) the second one treats about a definition of Katok's entropy for a free semigroup action introduced in \cite{CRV-IV}; (c) lastly we consider the local entropy function for a free semigroup action and show that the metric mean dimension satisfies a variational principle in terms of such function. Our results are inspired in the ones obtained by \cite{LT2019}, \cite{VV}, \cite{GS1} and \cite{RX}.

Topological pressure for discontinuous semiflows and a variational principle for impulsive dynamical systems

We introduce four, a priori different, notions of topological pressure for possibly discontinuous semiflows acting on compact metric spaces and observe that they all agree with the classical one when restricted to the continuous setting. Moreover, for a class of \emph{impulsive semiflows}, which are examples of discontinuous systems, we prove a variational principle. As a consequence, we conclude that for this class of systems the four notions coincide and, moreover, they also coincide with the notion of topological pressure introduced in \cite{ACS17}.

Generic homeomorphisms have full metric mean dimension

We prove that the upper metric mean dimension of $C^0$-generic homeomorphisms, acting on a compact smooth boundaryless manifold with dimension greater than one, coincides with the dimension of the manifold. In the case of continuous interval maps we also show that each level set for the metric mean dimension is $C^0$-dense in the space of continuous endomorphisms of $[0,1]$ with the uniform topology.

Rare events for Cantor target sets

We study the existence of limiting laws of rare events corresponding to the entrance of the orbits on certain target sets in the phase space. The limiting laws are obtained when the target sets shrink to a Cantor set of zero Lebesgue measure. We consider both the presence and absence of clustering, which is detected by the Extremal Index, which turns out to be very useful to identify the compatibility between the dynamics and the fractal structure of the limiting Cantor set. The computation of the Extremal Index is connected to the box dimension of the intersection between the Cantor set and its iterates.

Quantitative recurrence for free semigroup actions

We consider finitely generated free semigroup actions on a compact metric space and obtain quantitative information on Poincaré recurrence, average first return time and hitting frequency for the random orbits induced by the semigroup action. Besides, we relate the recurrence to balls with the rates of expansion of the semigroup's generators and the topological entropy of the semigroup action. Finally, we establish a partial variational principle and prove an ergodic optimization for this kind of dynamical action.

Semigroup actions of expanding maps

We consider semigroups of Ruelle-expanding maps, parameterized by random walks on the free semigroup, with the aim of examining their complexity and exploring the relation between intrinsic properties of the semigroup action and the thermodynamic formalism of the associated skew-product. In particular, we clarify the connection between the topological entropy of the semigroup action and the growth rate of the periodic points, establish the main properties of the dynamical zeta function of the semigroup action and prove the existence of stationary probability measures.

Extreme Value Laws for dynamical systems with countable extremal sets

We consider stationary stochastic processes arising from dynamical systems by evaluating a given observable along the orbits of the system. We focus on the extremal behaviour of the process, which is related to the entrance in certain regions of the phase space, which correspond to neighbourhoods of the maximal set $\mathcal M$, i.e. the set of points where the observable is maximised. The main novelty here is the fact that we consider that the set $\mathcal M$ may have a countable number of points, which are associated by belonging to the orbit of a certain point, and may have accumulation points. In order to prove the existence of distributional limits and study the intensity of clustering, given by the Extremal Index, we generalise the conditions previously introduced in \cite{FFT12,FFT15}.

Specification properties and thermodynamical properties of semigroup actions

In the present paper we study the thermodynamical properties of finitely generated continuous subgroup actions. We address a notion of topological entropy and pressure functions that does not depend on the growth rate of the semigroup and introduce strong and orbital specification properties, under which, the semigroup actions have positive topological entropy and all points are entropy points. Moreover, we study the convergence and Lipschitz regularity of the pressure function and obtain relations between topological entropy and exponential growth rate of periodic points in the context of semigroups of expanding maps. The specification properties for semigroup actions and the corresponding one for its generators and the action of push-forward maps is also discussed.

A note on the dynamics of linear automorphisms of a measure convolution algebra

In this work we are going to study the dynamics of the linear automorphisms of a measure convolution algebra over a finite group, $T(μ)=ν* μ$. In order to understand an classify the asymptotic behavior of this dynamical system we provide an alternative to classical results, a very direct way to understand convergence of the sequence $\{ν^{n}\}_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$, where $G$ is a finite group, $ν\in\mathcal{P}(G)$ and $ν^n=\underbrace{ν\ast...\astν}_n$, trough the subgroup generated by his support.
