Evaluation and Control Model Design of Human Factors for Autonomous Driving Systems

With the fast development of driving automation technologies, user psychological acceptance of driving automation has become one of the major obstacles to the adoption of the driving automation technology. The most basic function of a passenger car is to transport passengers or drivers to their destinations safely and comfortably. Thus, the design of the driving automation should not just guarantee the safety of vehicle operation but also ensure occupant subjective level of comfort. Hence this paper proposes a local path planning algorithm for obstacle avoidance with occupant subjective feelings considered. Firstly, turning and obstacle avoidance conditions are designed, and four classifiers in machine learning are used to respectively establish subjective and objective evaluation models that link the objective vehicle dynamics parameters and occupant subjective confidence. Then, two potential fields are established based on the artificial potential field, reflecting the psychological feeling of drivers on obstacles and road boundaries. Accordingly, a path planning algorithm and a path tracking algorithm are designed respectively based on model predictive control, and the psychological safety boundary and the optimal classifier are used as part of cost functions. Finally, co-simulations of MATLAB/Simulink and CarSim are carried out. The results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, which can avoid obstacles satisfactorily and improve the psychological feeling of occupants effectively.

CASA-ASR: Context-Aware Speaker-Attributed ASR

Recently, speaker-attributed automatic speech recognition (SA-ASR) has attracted a wide attention, which aims at answering the question ``who spoke what''. Different from modular systems, end-to-end (E2E) SA-ASR minimizes the speaker-dependent recognition errors directly and shows a promising applicability. In this paper, we propose a context-aware SA-ASR (CASA-ASR) model by enhancing the contextual modeling ability of E2E SA-ASR. Specifically, in CASA-ASR, a contextual text encoder is involved to aggregate the semantic information of the whole utterance, and a context-dependent scorer is employed to model the speaker discriminability by contrasting with speakers in the context. In addition, a two-pass decoding strategy is further proposed to fully leverage the contextual modeling ability resulting in a better recognition performance. Experimental results on AliMeeting corpus show that the proposed CASA-ASR model outperforms the original E2E SA-ASR system with a relative improvement of 11.76% in terms of speaker-dependent character error rate.

A Comparative Study on Multichannel Speaker-Attributed Automatic Speech Recognition in Multi-party Meetings

Speaker-attributed automatic speech recognition (SA-ASR) in multi-party meeting scenarios is one of the most valuable and challenging ASR task. It was shown that single-channel frame-level diarization with serialized output training (SC-FD-SOT), single-channel word-level diarization with SOT (SC-WD-SOT) and joint training of single-channel target-speaker separation and ASR (SC-TS-ASR) can be exploited to partially solve this problem. In this paper, we propose three corresponding multichannel (MC) SA-ASR approaches, namely MC-FD-SOT, MC-WD-SOT and MC-TS-ASR. For different tasks/models, different multichannel data fusion strategies are considered, including channel-level cross-channel attention for MC-FD-SOT, frame-level cross-channel attention for MC-WD-SOT and neural beamforming for MC-TS-ASR. Results on the AliMeeting corpus reveal that our proposed models can consistently outperform the corresponding single-channel counterparts in terms of the speaker-dependent character error rate.

Meta-Auto-Decoder for Solving Parametric Partial Differential Equations

Many important problems in science and engineering require solving the so-called parametric partial differential equations (PDEs), i.e., PDEs with different physical parameters, boundary conditions, shapes of computation domains, etc. Recently, building learning-based numerical solvers for parametric PDEs has become an emerging new field. One category of methods such as the Deep Galerkin Method (DGM) and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) aim to approximate the solution of the PDEs. They are typically unsupervised and mesh-free, but require going through the time-consuming network training process from scratch for each set of parameters of the PDE. Another category of methods such as Fourier Neural Operator (FNO) and Deep Operator Network (DeepONet) try to approximate the solution mapping directly. Being fast with only one forward inference for each PDE parameter without retraining, they often require a large corpus of paired input-output observations drawn from numerical simulations, and most of them need a predefined mesh as well. In this paper, we propose Meta-Auto-Decoder (MAD), a mesh-free and unsupervised deep learning method that enables the pre-trained model to be quickly adapted to equation instances by implicitly encoding (possibly heterogenous) PDE parameters as latent vectors. The proposed method MAD can be interpreted by manifold learning in infinite-dimensional spaces, granting it a geometric insight. Extensive numerical experiments show that the MAD method exhibits faster convergence speed without losing accuracy than other deep learning-based methods. This paper summarizes the outcomes from the ISCSLP 2022 Intelligent Cockpit Speech Recognition Challenge (ICSRC). We first address the necessity of the challenge and then introduce the associated dataset collected from a new-energy vehicle (NEV) covering a variety of cockpit acoustic conditions and linguistic contents. We then describe the track arrangement and the baseline system. Specifically, we set up two tracks in terms of allowed model/system size to investigate resource-constrained and -unconstrained setups, targeting to vehicle embedded as well as cloud ASR systems respectively. Finally we summarize the challenge results and provide the major observations from the submitted systems.

The NPU-ASLP System for The ISCSLP 2022 Magichub Code-Swiching ASR Challenge

This paper describes our NPU-ASLP system submitted to the ISCSLP 2022 Magichub Code-Switching ASR Challenge. In this challenge, we first explore several popular end-to-end ASR architectures and training strategies, including bi-encoder, language-aware encoder (LAE) and mixture of experts (MoE). To improve our system's language modeling ability, we further attempt the internal language model as well as the long context language model. Given the limited training data in the challenge, we further investigate the effects of data augmentation, including speed perturbation, pitch shifting, speech codec, SpecAugment and synthetic data from text-to-speech (TTS). Finally, we explore ROVER-based score fusion to make full use of complementary hypotheses from different models. Our submitted system achieves 16.87% on mix error rate (MER) on the test set and comes to the 2nd place in the challenge ranking.

A GPU-specialized Inference Parameter Server for Large-Scale Deep Recommendation Models

Recommendation systems are of crucial importance for a variety of modern apps and web services, such as news feeds, social networks, e-commerce, search, etc. To achieve peak prediction accuracy, modern recommendation models combine deep learning with terabyte-scale embedding tables to obtain a fine-grained representation of the underlying data. Traditional inference serving architectures require deploying the whole model to standalone servers, which is infeasible at such massive scale. In this paper, we provide insights into the intriguing and challenging inference domain of online recommendation systems. We propose the HugeCTR Hierarchical Parameter Server (HPS), an industry-leading distributed recommendation inference framework, that combines a high-performance GPU embedding cache with an hierarchical storage architecture, to realize low-latency retrieval of embeddings for online model inference tasks. Among other things, HPS features (1) a redundant hierarchical storage system, (2) a novel high-bandwidth cache to accelerate parallel embedding lookup on NVIDIA GPUs, (3) online training support and (4) light-weight APIs for easy integration into existing large-scale recommendation workflows. To demonstrate its capabilities, we conduct extensive studies using both synthetically engineered and public datasets. We show that our HPS can dramatically reduce end-to-end inference latency, achieving 5~62x speedup (depending on the batch size) over CPU baseline implementations for popular recommendation models. Through multi-GPU concurrent deployment, the HPS can also greatly increase the inference QPS.

Merlin HugeCTR: GPU-accelerated Recommender System Training and Inference

In this talk, we introduce Merlin HugeCTR. Merlin HugeCTR is an open source, GPU-accelerated integration framework for click-through rate estimation. It optimizes both training and inference, whilst enabling model training at scale with model-parallel embeddings and data-parallel neural networks. In particular, Merlin HugeCTR combines a high-performance GPU embedding cache with an hierarchical storage architecture, to realize low-latency retrieval of embeddings for online model inference tasks. In the MLPerf v1.0 DLRM model training benchmark, Merlin HugeCTR achieves a speedup of up to 24.6x on a single DGX A100 (8x A100) over PyTorch on 4x4-socket CPU nodes (4x4x28 cores). Merlin HugeCTR can also take advantage of multi-node environments to accelerate training even further. Since late 2021, Merlin HugeCTR additionally features a hierarchical parameter server (HPS) and supports deployment via the NVIDIA Triton server framework, to leverage the computational capabilities of GPUs for high-speed recommendation model inference. Using this HPS, Merlin HugeCTR users can achieve a 5~62x speedup (batch size dependent) for popular recommendation models over CPU baseline implementations, and dramatically reduce their end-to-end inference latency.

MFCCA:Multi-Frame Cross-Channel attention for multi-speaker ASR in Multi-party meeting scenario

Recently cross-channel attention, which better leverages multi-channel signals from microphone array, has shown promising results in the multi-party meeting scenario. Cross-channel attention focuses on either learning global correlations between sequences of different channels or exploiting fine-grained channel-wise information effectively at each time step. Considering the delay of microphone array receiving sound, we propose a multi-frame cross-channel attention, which models cross-channel information between adjacent frames to exploit the complementarity of both frame-wise and channel-wise knowledge. Besides, we also propose a multi-layer convolutional mechanism to fuse the multi-channel output and a channel masking strategy to combat the channel number mismatch problem between training and inference. Experiments on the AliMeeting, a real-world corpus, reveal that our proposed model outperforms single-channel model by 31.7\% and 37.0\% CER reduction on Eval and Test sets. Moreover, with comparable model parameters and training data, our proposed model achieves a new SOTA performance on the AliMeeting corpus, as compared with the top ranking systems in the ICASSP2022 M2MeT challenge, a recently held multi-channel multi-speaker ASR challenge.

Human-centric Spatio-Temporal Video Grounding via the Combination of Mutual Matching Network and TubeDETR

In this technical report, we represent our solution for the Human-centric Spatio-Temporal Video Grounding (HC-STVG) track of the 4th Person in Context (PIC) workshop and challenge. Our solution is built on the basis of TubeDETR and Mutual Matching Network (MMN). Specifically, TubeDETR exploits a video-text encoder and a space-time decoder to predict the starting time, the ending time and the tube of the target person. MMN detects persons in images, links them as tubes, extracts features of person tubes and the text description, and predicts the similarities between them to choose the most likely person tube as the grounding result. Our solution finally finetunes the results by combining the spatio localization of MMN and with temporal localization of TubeDETR. In the HC-STVG track of the 4th PIC challenge, our solution achieves the third place.

A Comparative Study on Speaker-attributed Automatic Speech Recognition in Multi-party Meetings

In this paper, we conduct a comparative study on speaker-attributed automatic speech recognition (SA-ASR) in the multi-party meeting scenario, a topic with increasing attention in meeting rich transcription. Specifically, three approaches are evaluated in this study. The first approach, FD-SOT, consists of a frame-level diarization model to identify speakers and a multi-talker ASR to recognize utterances. The speaker-attributed transcriptions are obtained by aligning the diarization results and recognized hypotheses. However, such an alignment strategy may suffer from erroneous timestamps due to the modular independence, severely hindering the model performance. Therefore, we propose the second approach, WD-SOT, to address alignment errors by introducing a word-level diarization model, which can get rid of such timestamp alignment dependency. To further mitigate the alignment issues, we propose the third approach, TS-ASR, which trains a target-speaker separation module and an ASR module jointly. By comparing various strategies for each SA-ASR approach, experimental results on a real meeting scenario corpus, AliMeeting, reveal that the WD-SOT approach achieves 10.7% relative reduction on averaged speaker-dependent character error rate (SD-CER), compared with the FD-SOT approach. In addition, the TS-ASR approach also outperforms the FD-SOT approach and brings 16.5% relative average SD-CER reduction.

PSP: Million-level Protein Sequence Dataset for Protein Structure Prediction

Proteins are essential component of human life and their structures are important for function and mechanism analysis. Recent work has shown the potential of AI-driven methods for protein structure prediction. However, the development of new models is restricted by the lack of dataset and benchmark training procedure. To the best of our knowledge, the existing open source datasets are far less to satisfy the needs of modern protein sequence-structure related research. To solve this problem, we present the first million-level protein structure prediction dataset with high coverage and diversity, named as PSP. This dataset consists of 570k true structure sequences (10TB) and 745k complementary distillation sequences (15TB). We provide in addition the benchmark training procedure for SOTA protein structure prediction model on this dataset. We validate the utility of this dataset for training by participating CAMEO contest in which our model won the first place. We hope our PSP dataset together with the training benchmark can enable a broader community of AI/biology researchers for AI-driven protein related research.

Towards a Larger Molecular Simulation on the Quantum Computer: Up to 28 Qubits Systems Accelerated by Point Group Symmetry

The exact evaluation of the molecular ground state in quantum chemistry requires an exponentially increasing computational cost. Quantum computation is a promising way to overcome the exponential problem using polynomial-time quantum algorithms. A quantum-classical hybrid optimization scheme known as the variational quantum eigensolver(VQE) is preferred for noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices. However, the circuit depth becomes one of the bottlenecks of its application to large molecules of more than 20 qubits. In this work, we employ the point group symmetry to reduce the number of operators in constructing ansatz so as to achieve a more compact quantum circuit. We illustrate this methodology with a series of molecules ranging from LiH(12 qubits) to C2H4(28 qubits). A significant reduction of up to 82% of the operator numbers is reached on C2H4, which enables the largest molecule ever numerically simulated by VQE-UCC to the best of our knowledge. This also shed light into the further work of this direction to construct even shallower ansatz with enough expressive power and simulate even larger scale system.

Hyperlink-induced Pre-training for Passage Retrieval in Open-domain Question Answering

To alleviate the data scarcity problem in training question answering systems, recent works propose additional intermediate pre-training for dense passage retrieval (DPR). However, there still remains a large discrepancy between the provided upstream signals and the downstream question-passage relevance, which leads to less improvement. To bridge this gap, we propose the HyperLink-induced Pre-training (HLP), a method to pre-train the dense retriever with the text relevance induced by hyperlink-based topology within Web documents. We demonstrate that the hyperlink-based structures of dual-link and co-mention can provide effective relevance signals for large-scale pre-training that better facilitate downstream passage retrieval. We investigate the effectiveness of our approach across a wide range of open-domain QA datasets under zero-shot, few-shot, multi-hop, and out-of-domain scenarios. The experiments show our HLP outperforms the BM25 by up to 7 points as well as other pre-training methods by more than 10 points in terms of top-20 retrieval accuracy under the zero-shot scenario. Furthermore, HLP significantly outperforms other pre-training methods under the other scenarios.

Variable step-size BDF3 method for Allen-Cahn equation

In this work, we analyze the three-step backward differentiation formula (BDF3) method for solving the Allen-Cahn equation on variable grids. For BDF2 method, the discrete orthogonal convolution (DOC) kernels are positive, the stability and convergence analysis are well established in [Liao and Zhang, \newblock Math. Comp., \textbf{90} (2021) 1207--1226; Chen, Yu, and Zhang, \newblock SIAM J. Numer. Anal., Major Revised]. However, the numerical analysis for BDF3 method with variable steps seems to be highly nontrivial, since the DOC kernels are not always positive. By developing a novel spectral norm inequality, the unconditional stability and convergence are rigorously proved under the updated step ratio restriction $r_k:=τ_k/τ_{k-1}\leq 1.405$ (compared with $r_k\leq 1.199$ in [Calvo and Grigorieff, \newblock BIT. \textbf{42} (2002) 689--701]) for BDF3 method. Finally, numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the theoretical results. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first theoretical analysis of variable steps BDF3 method for the Allen-Cahn equation.

M2MeT: The ICASSP 2022 Multi-Channel Multi-Party Meeting Transcription Challenge

Recent development of speech processing, such as speech recognition, speaker diarization, etc., has inspired numerous applications of speech technologies. The meeting scenario is one of the most valuable and, at the same time, most challenging scenarios for the deployment of speech technologies. Specifically, two typical tasks, speaker diarization and multi-speaker automatic speech recognition have attracted much attention recently. However, the lack of large public meeting data has been a major obstacle for the advancement of the field. Therefore, we make available the AliMeeting corpus, which consists of 120 hours of recorded Mandarin meeting data, including far-field data collected by 8-channel microphone array as well as near-field data collected by headset microphone. Each meeting session is composed of 2-4 speakers with different speaker overlap ratio, recorded in rooms with different size. Along with the dataset, we launch the ICASSP 2022 Multi-channel Multi-party Meeting Transcription Challenge (M2MeT) with two tracks, namely speaker diarization and multi-speaker ASR, aiming to provide a common testbed for meeting rich transcription and promote reproducible research in this field. In this paper we provide a detailed introduction of the AliMeeting dateset, challenge rules, evaluation methods and baseline systems.

Unified Streaming and Non-streaming Two-pass End-to-end Model for Speech Recognition

In this paper, we present a novel two-pass approach to unify streaming and non-streaming end-to-end (E2E) speech recognition in a single model. Our model adopts the hybrid CTC/attention architecture, in which the conformer layers in the encoder are modified. We propose a dynamic chunk-based attention strategy to allow arbitrary right context length. At inference time, the CTC decoder generates n-best hypotheses in a streaming way. The inference latency could be easily controlled by only changing the chunk size. The CTC hypotheses are then rescored by the attention decoder to get the final result. This efficient rescoring process causes very little sentence-level latency. Our experiments on the open 170-hour AISHELL-1 dataset show that, the proposed method can unify the streaming and non-streaming model simply and efficiently. On the AISHELL-1 test set, our unified model achieves 5.60% relative character error rate (CER) reduction in non-streaming ASR compared to a standard non-streaming transformer. The same model achieves 5.42% CER with 640ms latency in a streaming ASR system.
