Approach to artinian algebras via natural quivers

Given an Artinian algebra $A$ over a field $k$, there are several combinatorial objects associated to $A$. They are the diagram $D_A$ as defined in [DK], the natural quiver $Δ_A$ defined in \cite{Li} (cf. Section 2), and a generalized version of $k$-species $(A/r, r/r^2)$ with $r$ being the Jacobson radical of $A$. When $A$ is splitting over the field $k$, the diagram $D_A$ and the well-known ext-quiver $Γ_A$ are the same. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the relations among these combinatorial objects and in turn to use these relations to give a characterization of the algebra $A$.

Structure of Hochschild cohomology of path algebras and differential formulation of Euler's polyhedron formula

This article studies the Lie algebra $Diff(KΓ)$ of derivations on the path algebra $KΓ$ of a quiver $Γ$ and the Lie algebra on the first Hochschild cohomology group $H^1(KΓ)$. We relate these Lie algebras to the algebraic and combinatorial properties of the path algebra. Characterizations of derivations on a path algebra are obtained, leading to a canonical basis of $Diff(KΓ)$ and its Lie algebra properties. Special derivations are associated to the vertices, arrows and faces of a quiver, and the concepts of a connected matrix and boundary matrix are introduced to study the relations among these derivations, concluding that the space of edge derivations is the direct sum of the spaces of the vertex derivations and the face derivations, while the dimensions of the latter spaces are the largest possible. By taking dimensions, this relation among spaces of derivations recovers Euler's polyhedron formula. This relation also leads a combinatorial construction of a canonical basis of the Lie algebra $H^1(KΓ)$, together with a semidirect sum decomposition of $H^1(KΓ)$.

An ultra-thin waveguide twist constructed using fish-scale metallic wires

This study theoretically and experimentally investigates the transmission properties of a metamaterial slab comprised of two layers of metallic fish-scale structure arrays and a sandwiched dielectric layer. Calculations show that the asymmetric transmission can be tuned by varying the slab thickness, due to evanescent interlayer coupling. The spatial evolution of the local field inside the structure indicates that the slab functions as a perfect polarization transformer at certain frequencies in the manner of a waveguide twist. Measured transmission spectra are in good agreement with calculated results when material dissipation is considered.

Metallic helix array as a broadband wave plate

This study proposes that a metallic helix array can operate as a highly-transparent broadband wave plate in propagation directions perpendicular to the axis of helices. The functionality arises from a special property of the helix array, namely that the eigenstates of elliptically right-handed and left-handed polarization are dominated by Bragg scattering and local resonance respectively, and can be modulated separately with nearly fixed difference between their wavevectors in a wide frequency range. The wave plate functionality is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated by the transformation of polarized states in a wide frequency range.

Experimental realization of a broadband illusion optics device

We experimentally demonstrate the first metamaterial "illusion optics" device - an "invisible gateway" by using a transmission-line medium. The device contains an open channel that can block electromagnetic waves at a particular frequency range. We also demonstrate that such a device can work in a broad frequency range.

Invisibility Cloaks Modeled by Anisotropic Metamaterials Based on Inductor-capacitor Networks

Based on the transformation optics, a novel transmission-line (TL) approach to realize invisibility cloaking using planar anisotropic metamaterials (MTMs) is proposed. The two-dimensional cylindrical cloaks are modeled based on inductor-capacitor (L-C) MTMs networks. The three elements of the constitutive parameters are all allowed to be spatially inhomogeneous which lead to the full parameter realization of a cylindrical cloak. As an example, a cloak working at VHF band is modeled and its invisibility behavior is demonstrated based on the solution of the node voltage distribution. Due to the non-resonant properties of the L-C elements, the broadband characteristic of the proposed cloaks is also evident.

Compressive sensing by white random convolution

A different compressive sensing framework, convolution with white noise waveform followed by subsampling at fixed (not randomly selected) locations, is studied in this paper. We show that its recoverability for sparse signals depends on the coherence (denoted by mu) between the signal representation and the Fourier basis. In particular, an n-dimensional signal which is S-sparse in such a basis can be recovered with a probability exceeding 1-delta from any fixed m~O(mu^2*S*log(n/delta)^(3/2)) output samples of the random convolution.

Novel Algorithm for Sparse Solutions to Linear Inverse Problems with Multiple Measurements

In this report, a novel efficient algorithm for recovery of jointly sparse signals (sparse matrix) from multiple incomplete measurements has been presented, in particular, the NESTA-based MMV optimization method. In a nutshell, the jointly sparse recovery is obviously superior to applying standard sparse reconstruction methods to each channel individually. Moreover several efforts have been made to improve the NESTA-based MMV algorithm, in particular, (1) the NESTA-based MMV algorithm for partially known support to greatly improve the convergence rate, (2) the detection of partial (or all) locations of unknown jointly sparse signals by using so-called MUSIC algorithm; (3) the iterative NESTA-based algorithm by combing hard thresholding technique to decrease the numbers of measurements. It has been shown that by using proposed approach one can recover the unknown sparse matrix X with () Spark A -sparsity from () Spark A measurements, predicted in Ref. [1], where the measurement matrix denoted by A satisfies the so-called restricted isometry property (RIP). Under a very mild condition on the sparsity of X and characteristics of the A, the iterative hard threshold (IHT)-based MMV method has been shown to be also a very good candidate.

Compressive Diffraction Tomography for Weakly Scattering

An appealing requirement from the well-known diffraction tomography (DT) exists for success reconstruction from few-view and limited-angle data. Inspired by the well-known compressive sensing (CS), the accurate super-resolution reconstruction from highly sparse data for the weakly scatters has been investigated in this paper. To realize the compressive data measurement, in particular, to obtain the super-resolution reconstruction with highly sparse data, the compressive system which is realized by surrounding the probed obstacles by the random media has been proposed and empirically studied. Several interesting conclusions have been drawn: (a) if the desired resolution is within the range from to, the K-sparse N-unknowns imaging can be obtained exactly bymeasurements, which is comparable to the required number of measurement by the Gaussian random matrix in the literatures of compressive sensing. (b) With incorporating the random media which is used to enforce the multi-path effect of wave propagation, the resulting measurement matrix is incoherence with wavelet matrix, in other words, when the probed obstacles are sparse with the framework of wavelet, the required number of measurements for successful reconstruction is similar as above. (c) If the expected resolution is lower than, the required number of measurements of proposed compressive system is almost identical to the case of free space. (d) There is also a requirement to make the tradeoff between the imaging resolutions and the number of measurements. In addition, by the introduction of complex Gaussian variable the kind of fast sparse Bayesian algorithm has been slightly modified to deal with the complex-valued optimization with sparse constraints.

A Novel Algorithm for Compressive Sensing: Iteratively Reweighed Operator Algorithm (IROA)

Compressive sensing claims that the sparse signals can be reconstructed exactly from many fewer measurements than traditionally believed necessary. One of issues ensuring the successful compressive sensing is to deal with the sparsity-constraint optimization. Up to now, many excellent theories, algorithms and software have been developed, for example, the so-called greedy algorithm ant its variants, the sparse Bayesian algorithm, the convex optimization methods, and so on. The formulations for them consist of two terms, in which one is and the other is (, mostly, p=1 is adopted due to good characteristic of the convex function) (NOTE: without the loss of generality, itself is assumed to be sparse). It is noted that all of them specify the sparsity constraint by the second term. Different from them, the developed formulation in this paper consists of two terms where one is with () and the other is . For each iteration the measurement matrix (linear operator) is reweighed by determined by which is obtained in the previous iteration, so the proposed method is called the iteratively reweighed operator algorithm (IROA). Moreover, in order to save the computation time, another reweighed operation has been carried out; in particular, the columns of corresponding to small have been excluded out. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations have shown that the proposed method overcomes the published algorithms.

The Design of Compressive Sensing Filter

In this paper, the design of universal compressive sensing filter based on normal filters including the lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and bandstop filters with different cutoff frequencies (or bandwidth) has been developed to enable signal acquisition with sub-Nyquist sampling. Moreover, to control flexibly the size and the coherence of the compressive sensing filter, as an example, the microstrip filter based on defected ground structure (DGS) has been employed to realize the compressive sensing filter. Of course, the compressive sensing filter also can be constructed along the identical idea by many other structures, for example, the man-made electromagnetic materials, the plasma with different electron density, and so on. By the proposed architecture, the n-dimensional signals of S-sparse in arbitrary orthogonal frame can be exactly reconstructed with measurements on the order of Slog(n) with overwhelming probability, which is consistent with the bonds estimated by theoretical analysis.

The Design of Sparse Antenna Array

The aim of antenna array synthesis is to achieve a desired radiation pattern with the minimum number of antenna elements. In this paper the antenna synthesis problem is studied from a totally new perspective. One of the key principles of compressive sensing is that the signal to be sensed should be sparse or compressible. This coincides with the requirement of minimum number of element in the antenna array synthesis problem. In this paper the antenna element of the array can be efficiently reduced via compressive sensing, which shows a great improvement to the existing antenna synthesis method. Moreover, the desired radiation pattern can be achieved in a very computation time which is even shorter than the existing method. Numerical examples are presented to show the high efficiency of the proposed method.

Theoretical Analysis of Compressive Sensing via Random Filter

In this paper, the theoretical analysis of compressive sensing via random filter, firstly outlined by J. Romberg [compressive sensing by random convolution, submitted to SIAM Journal on Imaging Science on July 9, 2008], has been refined or generalized to the design of general random filter used for compressive sensing. This universal CS measurement consists of two parts: one is from the convolution of unknown signal with a random waveform followed by random time-domain subsampling; the other is from the directly time-domain subsampling of the unknown signal. It has been shown that the proposed approach is a universally efficient data acquisition strategy, which means that the n-dimensional signal which is S sparse in any sparse representation can be exactly recovered from Slogn measurements with overwhelming probability.

Carrier-envelope phase measurement from half-cycle high harmonics

We present a method to distinguish the high harmonics generated in individual half-cycle of the driving laser pulse by mixing a weak ultraviolet pulse, enabling one to observe the cutoff of each half-cycle harmonic. We show that the detail information of the driving laser pulse, including the laser intensity, pulse duration and carrier-envelope phase, can be {\it in situ} retrieved from the harmonic spectrogram. In addition, our results show that this method also distinguishes the half-cycle high harmonics for a pulse longer than 10 fs, suggesting a potential to extend the CEP measurement to the multi-cycle regime.

Quantum Doubles from a Class of Noncocommutative Weak Hopf Algebras

The concept of biperfect (noncocommutative) weak Hopf algebras is introduced and their properties are discussed. A new type of quasi-bicrossed products are constructed by means of weak Hopf skew-pairs of the weak Hopf algebras which are generalizations of the Hopf pairs introduced by Takeuchi. As a special case, the quantum double of a finite dimensional biperfect (noncocommutative) weak Hopf algebra is built. Examples of quantum doubles from a Clifford monoid as well as a noncommutative and noncocommutative weak Hopf algebra are given, generalizing quantum doubles from a group and a noncommutative and noncocommutative Hopf algebra, respectively. Moreover, some characterisations of quantum doubles of finite dimensional biperfect weak Hopf algebras are obtained.

Weak Hopf algebras and singular solutions of Quantum Yang-Baxter equation

We investigate a generalization of Hopf algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ by weakening the invertibility of the generator $K$, i.e. exchanging its invertibility $KK^{-1}=1$ to the regularity $K\overline{K}K=K$. This leads to a weak Hopf algebra $w\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ and a $J$-weak Hopf algebra $v\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ which are studied in detail. It is shown that the monoids of group-like elements of $w\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ and $v\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ are regular monoids, which supports the general conjucture on the connection betweek weak Hopf algebras and regular monoids. Moreover, from $w\mathfrak{sl}_{q}(2)$ a quasi-braided weak Hopf algebra $\overline{U}_{q}^{w}$ is constructed and it is shown that the corresponding quasi-$R$-matrix is regular $R^{w}\hat{R}^{w}R^{w}=R^{w}$.
