Study of dark matter in the extended BLMSSM

There are strong evidences for existence of dark matter in some experiments at present. However, the question is that we do not have a reasonable explanation for dark matter in the framework of the Standard Model(SM) of particle physics. It is necessary to extend the SM in order to explain the dark matter. According to the current possible existence conditions of dark matter, we choose $χ^0_L$ and $\tilde{Y}$ as candidates for dark matter in the EBLMSSM. We study the dominant annihilation processes in detail, including $\barχ^0_Lχ^0_L(\bar{\tilde{Y}}\tilde{Y})\rightarrow \bar{l}^Il^I$ and $\barχ^0_Lχ^0_L(\bar{\tilde{Y}}\tilde{Y})\rightarrow \barν^Iν^I$. And we calculate their annihilation cross section $σ$ and relic density $Ω_D h^2$. Then we analyze the limitations of dark matter relic density on the parameters of the EBLMSSM.

On the Patterson-Sullivan measure for geodesic flows on rank $1$ manifolds without focal points

In this article, we consider the geodesic flow on a compact rank $1$ Riemannian manifold $M$ without focal points, whose universal cover is denoted by $X$. On the ideal boundary $X(\infty)$ of $X$, we show the existence and uniqueness of the Busemann density, which is realized via the Patterson-Sullivan measure. Based on the the Patterson-Sullivan measure, we show that the geodesic flow on $M$ has a unique invariant measure of maximal entropy. We also obtain the asymptotic growth rate of the volume of geodesic spheres in $X$ and the growth rate of the number of closed geodesics on $M$. These results generalize the work of Margulis and Knieper in the case of negative and nonpositive curvature respectively.

On the ergodicity of geodesic flows on surfaces without focal points

In this article, we study the ergodicity of the geodesic flows on surfaces with no focal points. Let $M$ be a smooth connected and closed surface equipped with a $C^\infty$ Riemannian metric $g$, whose genus $\mathfrak{g} \geq 2$. Suppose that $(M,g)$ has no focal points. We prove that the geodesic flow on the unit tangent bundle of $M$ is ergodic with respect to the Liouville measure, under the assumption that the set of points on $M$ with negative curvature has at most finitely many connected components.

Eigenvalue Estimate of the Dirac operator and Rigidity of Poincare-Einstein Metrics

We re-visit the eigenvalue estimate of the Dirac operator on spin manifolds with boundary in terms of the first eigenvalues of conformal Laplace operator as well as the conformal mean curvature operator. These problems were studied earlier by Hijazi-Montiel-Zhang and Raulot and we re-prove them under weaker assumption that a boundary chirality operator exists. Moreover, on these spin manifolds with boundary, we show that any $C^{3,α}$ conformal compactification of some Poincare-Einstein metric must be the standard hemisphere when the first nonzero eigenvalue of the Dirac operator achieves its lowest value, and any $C^{3,α}$ conformal compactification of some Poincare-Einstein metric must be the flat ball in Euclidean space when the first positive eigenvalue of the boundary Dirac operator achieves certain value relating to the second Yamabe invariant. In two cases the Poincare-Einstein metrics are standard hyperbolic metric.

On the mixing and Bernoulli properties for geodesic flows on rank 1 manifolds without focal points

If $(M,g)$ is a smooth compact rank $1$ Riemannian manifold without focal points, it is shown that the measure $μ_{\max}$ of maximal entropy for the geodesic flow is unique. In this article, we study the statistic properties and prove that this unique measure $μ_{\max}$ is mixing. Stronger conclusion that the geodesic flow on the unit tangent bundle $SM$ with respect to $μ_{\max}$ is Bernoulli is acquired provided $M$ is a compact surface with genus greater than one and no focal points.

The Decay Rate of Patterson-Sullivan Measures with Potential Functions and Critical Exponents

Basing upon the recent development of the Patterson-Sullivan measures with a Hölder continuous nonzero potential function, we use tools of both dynamics of geodesic flows and geometric properties of negatively curved manifolds to present a new formula illustrating the relation between the exponential decay rate of Patterson-Sullivan measures with a Hölder continuous potential function and the corresponding critical exponent.

Characterization of Electric Fields for Perfect Conductivity Problems in 3D

In composite materials, the inclusions are frequently spaced very closely. The electric field concentrated in the narrow regions between two adjacent perfectly conducting inclusions will always become arbitrarily large. In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula of the electric field in the zone between two spherical inclusions with different radii in three dimensions. An explicit blowup factor relying on radii is obtained, which also involves the digamma function and Euler-Mascheroni constant, and so the role of inclusions' radii played in such blowup analysis is identified.

Supermassive black holes with high accretion rates in active galactic nuclei. VII. Reconstruction of velocity-delay maps by maximum entropy method

As one of the series of papers reporting on a large reverberation mapping campaign, we apply the maximum entropy method (MEM) to 9 narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies with super-Eddington accretion rates observed during 2012-2013 for the velocity-delay maps of their Hβ and Hγ emission lines. The maps of 6 objects are reliably reconstructed using MEM. The maps of Hβ and Hγ emission lines of Mrk 335 indicate that the gas of its broad-line region (BLR) is infalling. For Mrk 142, its Hβ and Hγ lines show signatures of outflow. The Hβ and Hγ maps of Mrk 1044 demonstrate complex kinematics -- a virialized motion accompanied by an outflow signature, and the Hβ map of IRAS F12397+3333 is consistent with a disk or a spherical shell. The Hβ maps of Mrk 486 and MCG +06-26-012 suggest the presence of an inflow and outflow, respectively. These super-Eddington accretors show diverse geometry and kinematics. Brief discussions of their BLRs are provided for each individual object.

All-atom simulations reveal how single point mutations promote serpin misfolding

Protein misfolding is implicated in many diseases, including the serpinopathies. For the canonical inhibitory serpin α1-antitrypsin (A1AT), mutations can result in protein deficiencies leading to lung disease, and misfolded mutants can accumulate in hepatocytes leading to liver disease. Using all-atom simulations based on the recently developed Bias Functional algorithm we elucidate how wild-type A1AT folds and how the disease-associated S (Glu264Val) and Z (Glu342Lys) mutations lead to misfolding. The deleterious Z mutation disrupts folding at an early stage, while the relatively benign S mutant shows late stage minor misfolding. A number of suppressor mutations ameliorate the effects of the Z mutation and simulations on these mutants help to elucidate the relative roles of steric clashes and electrostatic interactions in Z misfolding. These results demonstrate a striking correlation between atomistic events and disease severity and shine light on the mechanisms driving chains away from their correct folding routes.

Limit of Fractional Power Sobolev Inequalities

We derive the Moser-Trudinger-Onofri inequalities on the 2-sphere and the 4-sphere as the limiting cases of the fractional power Sobolev inequalities on the same spaces, and justify our approach as the dimensional continuation argument initiated by Thomas P. Branson.

Escobar-Yamabe compactifications for Poincare-Einstein manifolds and rigidity theorems

Let $(X^{n},g_+) $ $(n\geq 3)$ be a Poincaré-Einstein manifold which is $C^{3,α}$ conformally compact with conformal infinity $(\partial X, [\hat{g}])$. On the conformal compactification $(\overline{X}, \bar g=ρ^2g_+)$ via some boundary defining function $ρ$, there are two types of Yamabe constants: $Y(\overline{X},\partial X,[\bar g])$ and $Q(\overline{X},\partial X,[\bar g])$. (See definitions (\ref{def.type1}) and (\ref{def.type2})). In \cite{GH}, Gursky and Han gave an inequality between $Y(\overline{X},\partial X,[\bar g])$ and $Y(\partial X,[\hat{g}])$. In this paper, we first show that the equality holds in Gursky-Han's theorem if and only if $(X^{n},g_+)$ is isometric to the standard hyperbolic space $(\mathbb{H}^{n}, g_{\mathbb{H}})$. Secondly, we derive an inequality between $Q(\overline{X},\partial X,[\bar g])$ and $Y(\partial X, [\hat g])$, and show that the equality holds if and only if $(X^{n},g_+)$ is isometric to $(\mathbb{H}^{n}, g_{\mathbb{H}})$. Based on this, we give a simple proof of the rigidity theorem for Poincaré-Einstein manifolds with conformal infinity being conformally equivalent to the standard sphere.

$R$-band host galaxy contamination of TeV $γ$-ray blazar Mrk 501: effects of the aperture size and seeing

We simulated the $R$-band contribution of the host galaxy of TeV $γ$-ray BL Lac object Mrk 501 in different aperture sizes and seeing conditions . The intensive observations were run with the 1.02 m optical telescope at Yunnan Observatories from 2010 May 15 to 18. Based on the host subtraction data presented in Nilsson et al. (2007), the subtraction of host galaxy contamination results in significant seeing-brightness correlations. These correlations would lead to illusive large amplitude variations at short timescales, which will mask the intrinsic micro variability, thus gives rise to difficulty in detecting the intrinsic micro variability. Both aperture size and seeing condition influence the flux measurements, but aperture size impact the result more significantly. Based on the parameters of elliptical galaxy provided in Nilsson et al. (1999), we simulated the host contributions of Mrk 501 in the different aperture sizes and seeing conditions. Our simulation data of the host galaxy obviously weaken these significant seeing-brightness correlations for the host-subtracted brightness of Mrk 501, and can help us discover the intrinsic short timescale micro variability. The pure nuclear flux is $\sim$ 8.0 $\rm{mJy}$ in \emph{R} band, i.e., AGN has a magnitude of $R\sim13^{m}_{\cdot}96$.

Heterogeneous Face Attribute Estimation: A Deep Multi-Task Learning Approach

Face attribute estimation has many potential applications in video surveillance, face retrieval, and social media. While a number of methods have been proposed for face attribute estimation, most of them did not explicitly consider the attribute correlation and heterogeneity (e.g., ordinal vs. nominal and holistic vs. local) during feature representation learning. In this paper, we present a Deep Multi-Task Learning (DMTL) approach to jointly estimate multiple heterogeneous attributes from a single face image. In DMTL, we tackle attribute correlation and heterogeneity with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) consisting of shared feature learning for all the attributes, and category-specific feature learning for heterogeneous attributes. We also introduce an unconstrained face database (LFW+), an extension of public-domain LFW, with heterogeneous demographic attributes (age, gender, and race) obtained via crowdsourcing. Experimental results on benchmarks with multiple face attributes (MORPH II, LFW+, CelebA, LFWA, and FotW) show that the proposed approach has superior performance compared to state of the art. Finally, evaluations on a public-domain face database (LAP) with a single attribute show that the proposed approach has excellent generalization ability.

Search for intra-day optical variability in Mrk 501

We present our observations of the optical intra-day variability (IDV) in $γ$-ray BL Lac object Mrk 501. The observations were run with the 1.02 m and 2.4 m optical telescopes at Yunnan Observatories from 2005 April to 2012 May. The light curve at the $R$ band on 2010 May 15 passes both variability tests (the $F$ test and the ANOVA test). A flare within the light curve on 2010 May 15 has a magnitude change $Δm = 0.03 \pm 0.005_{\rm{stat}} \pm 0.007_{\rm{sys}}$ mag, \textbf{a darkening timescale of $τ_{\rm{d}}=$ 26.7 minutes}, and an amplitude of IDV $Amp=2.9\% \pm0.7\%$. A decline \textbf{described by 11 consecutive flux measurements} within the flare can be fitted linearly with a Pearson's correlation coefficient $r = 0.945$ at the confidence level of $> 99.99\%$. Under the assumptions that the IDV is tightly connected to the mass of the black hole, \textbf{and that the flare duration, being two times $τ_{\rm{d}}$, is representative of the minimum characteristic timescale, we can derive upper bounds to the mass of the black hole}. In the case of the Kerr black hole, the timescale of $Δt_{\rm{min}}^{\rm{ob}}=$ 0.89 hours gives $M_{\bullet}\la 10^{9.20} M_{\odot}$, which is consistent with measurements reported in the literature. This agreement indicates that the hypothesis about $M_{\bullet}$ and $Δt_{\rm{min}}^{\rm{ob}}$ is consistent with the measurements/data.

Ferroelectricity and Antiferroelectricity in Elemental Group-V Monolayer Materials

Ferroelectricity is usually found in compound materials composed by different elements. Here, based on first-principles calculations, we reveal the first example of spontaneous electrical polarization and ferroelectricity in stable two-dimensional elemental materials: elemental Group-V (As, Sb, and Bi) monolayers. The polarization is due to the spontaneous lattice distortion with atomic layer buckling. Interestingly, for Bi monolayer, apart from the ferroelectric phase, we find that it can also host an antiferroelectric phase. The Curie temperatures of these elemental materials can be higher than room temperature, making them promising for realizing ultrathin ferroelectric devices of broad interest.

The physical constraints on a new LoBAL QSO at z=4.82

Very few low-ionization broad absorption line (LoBAL) QSOs have been found at high redshifts to date. One high-redshift LoBAL QSO, J0122+1216, was recently discovered at the Lijiang 2.4-m Telescope with an initial redshift determination of 4.76. Aiming to investigate its physical properties, we carried out follow-up observations in the optical and near-IR spectroscopy. Near-IR spectra from UKIRT and P200 confirms that it is a LoBAL, with a new redshift determination of $4.82\pm0.01$ based on the \mgii~ emission-line. The new \mgii~ redshift determination reveals strong blueshifts and asymmetry of the high-ionization emission lines. We estimated a black hole mass of $\sim 2.3\times 10^9 M_\odot$ and Eddington ratio of $\sim 1.0$ according to the empirical \mgii-based single-epoch relation and bolometric correction factor. It is possible that strong outflows are the result of an extreme quasar environment driven by the high Eddington ratio. A lower limit on the outflowing kinetic power ($>0.9\% L_{Edd}$) was derived from both emission and absorption lines, indicating these outflows play a significant role in the feedback process to regulate the growth of its black hole as well as host galaxy evolution.

On the scattering operators for ACHE metrics of Bergman type on strictly pseudoconvex domains

The scattering operators associated to an ACHE metric of Bergman type on a strictly pseudovonvex domain are a one-parameter family of CR-conformally invariant pseudodifferntial operators of Heisenberg class with respect to the induced CR structure on the boundary. In this paper, we mainly show that if the boundary Webster scalar curvature is positive, then for $γ\in(0,1)$ the renormalised scattering operator $P_{2γ}$ has positive spectrum and satisfies the maximum principal; moreover, the fractional curvature $Q_{2γ}$ is also positive. This is parallel to the result of Guillarmou-Qing \cite{GQ} for the real case. We also give two energy extension formulae for $P_{2γ}$, which are parallel to the energy extension given by Chang-Case \cite{CC} for the real case.

Interfacial Multiferroics of TiO2/PbTiO3 Heterostructure Driven by Ferroelectric Polarization Discontinuity

Novel phenomena appear when two different oxide materials are combined together to form an interface. For example, at the interface of LaAlO3/SrTiO3, two dimensional conductive states form to avoid the polar discontinuity and magnetic properties are found at such interface. In this work, we propose a new type of interface between two nonmagnetic and nonpolar oxides that could host a conductive state with magnetic properties, where it is the ferroelectric polarization discontinuity instead of the polar discontinuity that leads to the charge transfer, forming the interfacial conductive or magnetic states. As a concrete example, we investigate by first-principles calculations the heterostructures made of ferroelectric perovskite oxide PbTiO3 and non-ferroelectric polarized oxides TiO2. We show that charge is transferred to the interfacial layer forming an interfacial conductive state with ferromagnetic ordering that may persist up to room temperature. Especially, the strong coupling between bulk ferroelectric polarization and interface ferromagnetism represents a new type of magnetoelectric effect, which provides an ideal platform for exploring the intriguing interfacial multiferroics. The findings here are important not only for fundamental science but also for promising applications in nanoscale electronics and spintronics.
