New (k,l,m)-verifiable multi-secret sharing schemes based on XTR public key system

Secret sharing was proposed primarily in 1979 to solve the problem of key distribution. In recent decades, researchers have proposed many improvement schemes. Among all these schemes, the verifiable multi-secret sharing (VMSS) schemes are studied sufficiently, which share multiple secrets simultaneously and perceive malicious dealer as well as participants. By pointing out that the schemes presented by Dehkordi and Mashhadi in 2008 cannot detect some vicious behaviors of the dealer, we propose two new VMSS schemes by adding validity check in the verification phase to overcome this drawback. Our new schemes are based on XTR public key system, and can realize $GF(p^{6})$ security by computations in $GF(p^{2})$ without explicit constructions of $GF(p^{6})$, where $p$ is a prime. Compared with the VMSS schemes using RSA and linear feedback shift register (LFSR) public key cryptosystems, our schemes can achieve the same security level with shorter parameters by using trace function. What's more, our schemes are much simpler to operate than those schemes based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). In addition, our schemes are dynamic and threshold changeable, which means that it is efficient to implement our schemes according to the actual situation when participants, secrets or the threshold needs to be changed.

New Constructions of Optimal Cyclic (r,δ) Locally Repairable Codes from Their Zeros

An $(r, δ)$-locally repairable code ($(r, δ)$-LRC for short) was introduced by Prakash et al. \cite{Prakash2012} for tolerating multiple failed nodes in distributed storage systems, which was a generalization of the concept of $r$-LRCs produced by Gopalan et al. \cite{Gopalan2012}. An $(r, δ)$-LRC is said to be optimal if it achieves the Singleton-like bound. Recently, Chen et al. \cite{Chen2018} generalized the construction of cyclic $r$-LRCs proposed by Tamo et al. \cite{Tamo2015,Tamo2016} and constructed several classes of optimal $(r, δ)$-LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$, respectively in terms of a union of the set of zeros controlling the minimum distance and the set of zeros ensuring the locality. Following the work of \cite{Chen2018,Chen2019}, this paper first characterizes $(r, δ)$-locality of a cyclic code via its zeros. Then we construct several classes of optimal cyclic $(r, δ)$-LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$, respectively from the product of two sets of zeros. Our constructions include all optimal cyclic $(r,δ)$-LRCs proposed in \cite{Chen2018,Chen2019}, and our method seems more convenient to obtain optimal cyclic $(r, δ)$-LRCs with flexible parameters. Moreover, many optimal cyclic $(r,δ)$-LRCs of length $n$ for $n\, |\, (q-1)$ or $n\,|\, (q+1)$, respectively such that $(r+δ-1)\nmid n$ can be obtained from our method.

Construction of MDS Euclidean Self-Dual Codes via Two Subsets

The parameters of a $q$-ary MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are completely determined by its length and the construction of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes with new length has been widely investigated in recent years. In this paper, we give a further study on the construction of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and their extended codes. The main idea of our construction is to choose suitable evaluation points such that the corresponding (extended) GRS codes are Euclidean self-dual. Firstly, we consider the evaluation set consists of two disjoint subsets, one of which is based on the trace function, the other one is a union of a subspace and its cosets. Then four new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are constructed. Secondly, we give a simple but useful lemma to ensure that the symmetric difference of two intersecting subsets of finite fields can be taken as the desired evaluation set. Based on this lemma, we generalize our first construction and provide two new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes. Finally, by using two multiplicative subgroups and their cosets which have nonempty intersection, we present three generic constructions of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes with flexible parameters. Several new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are explicitly constructed.

A Note on Self-Dual Generalized Reed-Solomon Codes

A linear code is called an MDS self-dual code if it is both an MDS code and a self-dual code with respect to the Euclidean inner product. The parameters of such codes are completely determined by the code length. In this paper, we consider new constructions of MDS self-dual codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and their extended codes. The critical idea of our constructions is to choose suitable evaluation points such that the corresponding (extended) GRS codes are self-dual. The evaluation set of our constructions is consists of a subgroup of finite fields and its cosets in a bigger subgroup. Four new families of MDS self-dual codes are obtained and they have better parameters than previous results in certain region. Moreover, by the Mobius action over finite fields, we give a systematic way to construct self-dual GRS codes with different evaluation points provided any known self-dual GRS codes. Specially, we prove that all the self-dual extended GRS codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ with length $n< q+1$ can be constructed from GRS codes with the same parameters.

Euclidean and Hermitian Hulls of MDS Codes and Their Applications to EAQECCs

In this paper, we construct several classes of maximum distance separable (MDS) codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and extended GRS codes, where we can determine the dimensions of their Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls. It turns out that the dimensions of Euclidean hulls or Hermitian hulls of the codes in our constructions can take all or almost all possible values. As a consequence, we can apply our results to entanglement-assisted quantum error-correcting codes (EAQECCs) and obtain several new families of MDS EAQECCs with flexible parameters. The required number of maximally entangled states of these MDS EAQECCs can take all or almost all possible values. Moreover, several new classes of q-ary MDS EAQECCs of length n > q + 1 are also obtained.

Some New Constructions of Quantum MDS Codes

It is an important task to construct quantum maximum-distance-separable (MDS) codes with good parameters. In the present paper, we provide six new classes of q-ary quantum MDS codes by using generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and Hermitian construction. The minimum distances of our quantum MDS codes can be larger than q/2+1 Three of these six classes of quantum MDS codes have longer lengths than the ones constructed in [1] and [2], hence some of their results can be easily derived from ours via the propagation rule. Moreover, some known quantum MDS codes of specific lengths can be seen as special cases of ours and the minimum distances of some known quantum MDS codes are also improved as well.

Bounds and Constructions of Locally Repairable Codes: Parity-check Matrix Approach

A $q$-ary $(n,k,r)$ locally repairable code (LRC) is an $[n,k,d]$ linear code over $\mathbb{F}_q$ such that every code symbol can be recovered by accessing at most $r$ other code symbols. The well-known Singleton-like bound says that $d \le n-k-\lceil k/r\rceil +2$ and an LRC is said to be optimal if it attains this bound. In this paper, we study the bounds and constructions of LRCs from the view of parity-check matrices. Firstly, a simple and unified framework based on parity-check matrix to analyze the bounds of LRCs is proposed. Several useful structural properties on $q$-ary optimal LRCs are obtained. We derive an upper bound on the minimum distance of $q$-ary optimal $(n,k,r)$-LRCs in terms of the field size $q$. Then, we focus on constructions of optimal LRCs over binary field. It is proved that there are only 5 classes of possible parameters with which optimal binary $(n,k,r)$-LRCs exist. Moreover, by employing the proposed parity-check matrix approach, we completely enumerate all these 5 classes of possible optimal binary LRCs attaining the Singleton-like bound in the sense of equivalence of linear codes.

On self-duality and hulls of cyclic codes over $\frac{\mathbb{F}_{2^m}[u]}{\langle u^k\rangle}$ with oddly even length

Let $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ be a finite field of $2^m$ elements, and $R=\mathbb{F}_{2^m}[u]/\langle u^k\rangle=\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+\ldots+u^{k-1}\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ ($u^k=0$) where $k$ is an integer satisfying $k\geq 2$. For any odd positive integer $n$, an explicit representation for every self-dual cyclic code over $R$ of length $2n$ and a mass formula to count the number of these codes are given first. Then a generator matrix is provided for the self-dual and $2$-quasi-cyclic code of length $4n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ derived by every self-dual cyclic code of length $2n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ and a Gray map from $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ onto $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}^2$. Finally, the hull of each cyclic code with length $2n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ is determined and all distinct self-orthogonal cyclic codes of length $2n$ over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ are listed.

Self-dual binary $[8m, 4m]$-codes constructed by left ideals of the dihedral group algebra $\mathbb{F}_2[D_{8m}]$

Let $m$ be an arbitrary positive integer and $D_{8m}$ be a dihedral group of order $8m$, i.e., $D_{8m}=\langle x,y\mid x^{4m}=1, y^2=1, yxy=x^{-1}\rangle$. Left ideals of the dihedral group algebra $\mathbb{F}_2[D_{8m}]$ are called binary left dihedral codes of length $8m$, and abbreviated as binary left $D_{8m}$-codes. In this paper, we give an explicit representation and enumeration for all distinct self-dual binary left $D_{8m}$-codes. These codes make up an important class of self-dual binary $[8m,4m]$-codes such that the dihedral group $D_{8m}$ is necessary a subgroup of the automorphism group of each code. In particular, we provide recursive algorithms to solve congruence equations over finite chain rings for constructing all distinct self-dual binary left $D_{8m}$-codes and obtain a Mass formula to count the number of all these self-dual codes. As a preliminary application, we obtain the extremal self-dual binary $[48,24,12]$-code and an extremal self-dual binary $[56,28,12]$-code from self-dual binary left $D_{48}$-codes and left $D_{56}$-codes respectively.

Construction and enumeration for self-dual cyclic codes of even length over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m} + u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$

Let $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ be a finite field of cardinality $2^m$, $R=\mathbb{F}_{2^m}+u\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ $(u^2=0)$ and $s,n$ be positive integers such that $n$ is odd. In this paper, we give an explicit representation for every self-dual cyclic code over the finite chain ring $R$ of length $2^sn$ and provide a calculation method to obtain all distinct codes. Moreover, we obtain a clear formula to count the number of all these self-dual cyclic codes. As an application, self-dual and $2$-quasi-cyclic codes over $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}$ of length $2^{s+1}n$ can be obtained from self-dual cyclic code over $R$ of length $2^sn$ and by a Gray map preserving orthogonality and distances from $R$ onto $\mathbb{F}_{2^m}^2$.

New dynamic and verifiable multi-secret sharing schemes based on LFSR public key cryptosystem

A verifiable multi-secret sharing (VMSS) scheme enables the dealer to share multiple secrets, and the deception of both participants and the dealer can be detected. After analyzing the security of VMSS schemes proposed by Mashhadi and Dehkordi in 2015, we illustrate that they cannot detect some deception of the dealer. By using nonhomogeneous linear recursion and LFSR public key cryptosystem, we introduce two new VMSS schemes. Our schemes can not only overcome the drawback mentioned above, but also have shorter private/public key length at the same safety level. Besides, our schemes have dynamism.

An explicit representation and enumeration for negacyclic codes of length $2^kn$ over $\mathbb{Z}_4+u\mathbb{Z}_4$

As a corollary, all distinct negacyclic codes of length $2^k$ over $R$ are listed precisely. Moreover, a mass formula for the number of negacyclic codes of length $2^kn$ over $R$ is given and a mistake in [Cryptogr. Commun. (2017) 9: 241--272] is corrected.

Local-Encoding-Preserving Secure Network Coding---Part I: Fixed Security Level

Information-theoretic security is considered in the paradigm of network coding in the presence of wiretappers, who can access one arbitrary edge subset up to a certain size, also referred to as the security level. Secure network coding is applied to prevent the leakage of the source information to the wiretappers. In this two-part paper, we consider the problem of secure network coding when the information rate and the security level can change over time. In the current paper (i.e., Part I of the two-part paper), we focus on the problem for a fixed security level and a flexible rate. To efficiently solve this problem, we put forward local-encoding-preserving secure network coding, where a family of secure linear network codes (SLNCs) is called local-encoding-preserving if all the SLNCs in this family share a common local encoding kernel at each intermediate node in the network. We present an efficient approach for constructing upon an SLNC that exists a local-encoding-preserving SLNC with the same security level and the rate reduced by one. By applying this approach repeatedly, we can obtain a family of local-encoding-preserving SLNCs with a fixed security level and multiple rates. We also develop a polynomial-time algorithm for efficient implementation of this approach. Furthermore, it is proved that the proposed approach incurs no penalty on the required field size for the existence of SLNCs in terms of the best known lower bound by Guang and Yeung. The result in this paper will be used as a building block for efficiently constructing a family of local-encoding-preserving SLNCs for all possible pairs of rate and security level, which will be discussed in the companion paper (i.e., Part II of the two-part paper).

Local-Encoding-Preserving Secure Network Coding---Part II: Flexible Rate and Security Level

In the two-part paper, we consider the problem of secure network coding when the information rate and the security level can change over time. To efficiently solve this problem, we put forward local-encoding-preserving secure network coding, where a family of secure linear network codes (SLNCs) is called local-encoding-preserving (LEP) if all the SLNCs in this family share a common local encoding kernel at each intermediate node in the network. In this paper (Part II), we first consider the design of a family of LEP SLNCs for a fixed rate and a flexible security level. We present a novel and efficient approach for constructing upon an SLNC that exists an LEP SLNC with the same rate and the security level increased by one. Next, we consider the design of a family of LEP SLNCs for a fixed dimension (equal to the sum of rate and security level) and a flexible pair of rate and security level. We propose another novel approach for designing an SLNC such that the same SLNC can be applied for all the rate and security-level pairs with the fixed dimension. Also, two polynomial-time algorithms are developed for efficient implementations of our two approaches, respectively. Furthermore, we prove that both approaches do not incur any penalty on the required field size for the existence of SLNCs in terms of the best known lower bound by Guang and Yeung. Finally, we consider the ultimate problem of designing a family of LEP SLNCs that can be applied to all possible pairs of rate and security level. By combining the construction of a family of LEP SLNCs for a fixed security level and a flexible rate (obtained in Part I) with the constructions of the two families of LEP SLNCs in the current paper in suitable ways, we can obtain a family of LEP SLNCs that can be applied for all possible pairs of rate and security level. Three possible such constructions are presented.

A class of repeated-root constacyclic codes over $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^e\rangle$ of Type $2$

Let $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}$ be a finite field of cardinality $p^m$ where $p$ is an odd prime, $n$ be a positive integer satisfying ${\rm gcd}(n,p)=1$, and denote $R=\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^e\rangle$ where $e\geq 4$ be an even integer. Let $δ,α\in \mathbb{F}_{p^m}^{\times}$. Then the class of $(δ+αu^2)$-constacyclic codes over $R$ is a significant subclass of constacyclic codes over $R$ of Type 2. For any integer $k\geq 1$, an explicit representation and a complete description for all distinct $(δ+αu^2)$-constacyclic codes over $R$ of length $np^k$ and their dual codes are given. Moreover, formulas for the number of codewords in each code and the number of all such codes are provided respectively. In particular, all distinct $(δ+αu^2)$-contacyclic codes over $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^{e}\rangle$ of length $p^k$ and their dual codes are presented precisely.

Optimal cyclic $(r,δ)$ locally repairable codes with unbounded length

Locally repairable codes with locality $r$ ($r$-LRCs for short) were introduced by Gopalan et al. \cite{1} to recover a failed node of the code from at most other $r$ available nodes. And then $(r,δ)$ locally repairable codes ($(r,δ)$-LRCs for short) were produced by Prakash et al. \cite{2} for tolerating multiple failed nodes. An $r$-LRC can be viewed as an $(r,2)$-LRC. An $(r,δ)$-LRC is called optimal if it achieves the Singleton-type bound. It has been a great challenge to construct $q$-ary optimal $(r,δ)$-LRCs with length much larger than $q$. Surprisingly, Luo et al. \cite{3} presented a construction of $q$-ary optimal $r$-LRCs of minimum distances 3 and 4 with unbounded lengths (i.e., lengths of these codes are independent of $q$) via cyclic codes. In this paper, inspired by the work of \cite{3}, we firstly construct two classes of optimal cyclic $(r,δ)$-LRCs with unbounded lengths and minimum distances $δ+1$ or $δ+2$, which generalize the results about the $δ=2$ case given in \cite{3}. Secondly, with a slightly stronger condition, we present a construction of optimal cyclic $(r,δ)$-LRCs with unbounded length and larger minimum distance $2δ$. Furthermore, when $δ=3$, we give another class of optimal cyclic $(r,3)$-LRCs with unbounded length and minimum distance $6$.

Two new classes of quantum MDS codes

Let $p$ be a prime and let $q$ be a power of $p$. In this paper, by using generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS for short) codes and extended GRS codes, we construct two new classes of quantum maximum-distance- separable (MDS) codes with parameters \[ [[tq, tq-2d+2, d]]_{q} \] for any $1 \leq t \leq q, 2 \leq d \leq \lfloor \frac{tq+q-1}{q+1}\rfloor+1$, and \[ [[t(q+1)+2, t(q+1)-2d+4, d]]_{q} \] for any $1 \leq t \leq q-1, 2 \leq d \leq t+2$ with $(p,t,d) \neq (2, q-1, q)$. Our quantum codes have flexible parameters, and have minimum distances larger than $\frac{q}{2}+1$ when $t > \frac{q}{2}$. Furthermore, it turns out that our constructions generalize and improve some previous results.

Matrix-product structure of constacyclic codes over finite chain rings $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^e\rangle$

Let $m,e$ be positive integers, $p$ a prime number, $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}$ be a finite field of $p^m$ elements and $R=\mathbb{F}_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^e\rangle$ which is a finite chain ring. For any $ω\in R^\times$ and positive integers $k, n$ satisfying ${\rm gcd}(p,n)=1$, we prove that any $(1+ωu)$-constacyclic code of length $p^kn$ over $R$ is monomially equivalent to a matrix-product code of a nested sequence of $p^k$ cyclic codes with length $n$ over $R$ and a $p^k\times p^k$ matrix $A_{p^k}$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$. Using the matrix-product structures, we give an iterative construction of every $(1+ωu)$-constacyclic code by $(1+ωu)$-constacyclic codes of shorter lengths over $R$.
