When Correct Solutions Repeat: Rarity-Aware Credit Redistribution for GRPO

Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) com- monly optimizes each correct completion as an independent learning signal. In GRPO, this completion-level uniformity creates structure-level skew: recurring correct solution forms accumulate positive coefficient mass in proportion to how often they are sampled, while rare forms receive limited credit. We formalize this behavior as multiplicity-induced structure-level credit concentration and introduce a partition- conditioned rule that redistributes positive advantages accord- ing to cluster rarity. Cue-GRPO instantiates this rule with- out auxiliary-model inference by using deterministic Strategy Cues to construct rollout-local partitions of verified-correct traces. Across Qwen2.5-Math-7B and Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct, Cue-GRPO improves AIME repeated-sampling performance, with the largest gains at high sampling budgets. Credit Re- distribution (CR) under Judge Partitions (JP) further indi- cates that the proposed redistribution mechanism can oper- ate with judge-derived partitions. Cue-GRPO adds only 6% wall-clock training overhead over GRPO. These results sup- port structure-level credit redistribution as a practical design axis for RLVR, with Strategy Cues providing a low-overhead implementation for competition mathematics. Rotatable Antenna-Enhanced Cell-Free Communication

Rotatable antenna (RA) is a promising technology that can exploit new spatial degrees-of-freedom (DoFs) by flexibly adjusting the three-dimensional (3D) boresight direction of antennas. In this letter, we investigate an RA-enhanced cell-free system for downlink transmission, where multiple RA-equipped access points (APs) cooperatively serve multiple single-antenna users over the same time-frequency resource. Specifically, we aim to maximize the sum rate of all users by jointly optimizing the AP-user associations and the RA boresight directions. Accordingly, we propose a two-stage strategy to solve the AP-user association problem, and then employ fractional programming (FP) and successive convex approximation (SCA) techniques to optimize the RA boresight directions. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed RA-enhanced cell-free system significantly outperforms various benchmark schemes.

Rotatable Antenna Meets Multiple Access: NOMA or OMA?

Rotatable antenna (RA) technology has emerged as a promising solution to enhance spectrum efficiency by exploiting additional spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) in multiple access networks. However, the relative performance superiority among different multiple access schemes remains largely unclear due to the unique capability of RA in reconfiguring the directional gain pattern. In this letter, we conduct a theoretical comparison between non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes in RA-assisted communication systems in terms of transmit power minimization, subject to constraints on antenna rotational range and users' target rates. To address the associated non-convex optimization problem, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to optimize the rotational angle. Simulation results demonstrate that RA-assisted schemes significantly reduce transmit power compared to fixed-antenna benchmarks. Furthermore, RA-assisted NOMA may perform worse than time-division multiple access (TDMA) for symmetric user deployments, while it exhibits superior robustness and energy efficiency in asymmetric scenarios.

CT-CFAR A Robust CFAR Detector Based on CLEAN and Truncated Statistics in Sidelobe-Contaminated Environments

This paper proposes a constant false alarm rate (CFAR) target detection algorithm based on the CLEAN concept and truncated statistics to mitigate the non-homogeneity of reference samples caused by sidelobe contamination and other abnormal interferences within the reference window. The proposed algorithm employs truncated statistics to separate target and noise components in the radar echo power spectrum, thereby restoring the homogeneity assumption of the reference window. In addition, learnable historical sidelobe information is introduced to enhance the robustness and environmental adaptability of the detection process. Furthermore, based on multichannel echo data, a target reconstruction model that combines the Candan algorithm with least-squares estimation is established, incorporating the CLEAN concept to suppress sidelobe interference. Monte Carlo simulations and real-world measurement experiments demonstrate that the proposed CT-CFAR algorithm achieves high-precision target detection without requiring prior knowledge of abnormal samples. Compared with various CFAR algorithms, the proposed approach overcomes the limitations of the reference window, accurately estimates the noise spectrum, and exhibits superior detection performance and computational efficiency in complex scenarios affected by sidelobe contamination.

Rotatable Antenna-Enhanced Beamforming: Signal Enhancement and Interference Suppression

Conventional beamforming with fixed-orientation antenna (FOA) arrays may struggle to effectively enhance signal and/or suppress interference due to significant variations in antenna directive gains over different steering angles. To break this limitation, we investigate in this paper the rotatable antenna (RA)-enhanced single/multi-beam forming by exploiting the new spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) via antennas' rotation optimization. Specifically, the antenna rotation angle vector (ARAV) and antenna weight vector (AWV) are jointly optimized to maximize the minimum array gain over signal directions, subject to a given constraint on the maximum array gain over interference directions. For the special case of single-beam forming without interference, the optimal ARAV is derived in closed-form with the maximum ratio combining (MRC) beamformer applied to the AWV. For the general case of multi-beam forming, we propose an efficient alternating optimization (AO) algorithm to find a high-quality suboptimal solution by iteratively optimizing one of the ARAV and AWV with the other being fixed. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed RA-based scheme can significantly outperform the traditional FOA-based and isotropic antenna (IA)-based schemes in terms of array gain.

Rotatable Antenna Enabled Wireless Communication System with Visual Recognition: A Prototype Implementation

Rotatable antenna (RA) is an emerging technology that has great potential to exploit additional spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) by flexibly altering the three-dimensional (3D) orientation/boresight of each antenna. In this demonstration, we present a prototype of the RA-enabled wireless communication system with a visual recognition module to evaluate the performance gains provided by the RA in practical environments. In particular, a mechanically-driven RA is developed by integrating a digital servo motor, a directional antenna, and a microcontroller, which enables the dynamic adjustment of the RA orientation. Moreover, the orientation adjustment of the RA is guided by the user's direction information provided by the visual recognition module, thereby significantly enhancing system response speed and self-orientation accuracy. The experimental results demonstrate that the RA-enabled communication system achieves significant improvement in communication coverage performance compared to the conventional fixed antenna system.

Knowledge-Driven Deep Learning Paradigms for Wireless Network Optimization in 6G

In the sixth-generation (6G) networks, newly emerging diversified services of massive users in dynamic network environments are required to be satisfied by multi-dimensional heterogeneous resources. The resulting large-scale complicated network optimization problems are beyond the capability of model-based theoretical methods due to the overwhelming computational complexity and the long processing time. Although with fast online inference and universal approximation ability, data-driven deep learning (DL) heavily relies on abundant training data and lacks interpretability. To address these issues, a new paradigm called knowledge-driven DL has emerged, aiming to integrate proven domain knowledge into the construction of neural networks, thereby exploiting the strengths of both methods. This article provides a systematic review of knowledge-driven DL in wireless networks. Specifically, a holistic framework of knowledge-driven DL in wireless networks is proposed, where knowledge sources, knowledge representation, knowledge integration and knowledge application are forming as a closed loop. Then, a detailed taxonomy of knowledge integration approaches, including knowledge-assisted, knowledge-fused, and knowledge-embedded DL, is presented. Several open issues for future research are also discussed. The insights offered in this article provide a basic principle for the design of network optimization that incorporates communication-specific domain knowledge and DL, facilitating the realization of intelligent 6G networks.

Antenna Positioning and Beamforming Design for Fluid-Antenna Enabled Multi-user Downlink Communications

This paper investigates a multiple input single output (MISO) downlink communication system in which users are equipped with fluid antennas (FAs). First, we adopt a field-response based channel model to characterize the downlink channel with respect to FAs' positions. Then, we aim to minimize the total transmit power by jointly optimizing the FAs' positions and beamforming matrix. To solve the resulting non-convex problem, we employ an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm based on penalty method and successive convex approximation (SCA) to obtain a sub-optimal solution. Numerical results demonstrate that the FA-assisted communication system performs better than conventional fixed position antennas system.

Asynchronous Wireless Federated Learning with Probabilistic Client Selection

Federated learning (FL) is a promising distributed learning framework where distributed clients collaboratively train a machine learning model coordinated by a server. To tackle the stragglers issue in asynchronous FL, we consider that each client keeps local updates and probabilistically transmits the local model to the server at arbitrary times. We first derive the (approximate) expression for the convergence rate based on the probabilistic client selection. Then, an optimization problem is formulated to trade off the convergence rate of asynchronous FL and mobile energy consumption by joint probabilistic client selection and bandwidth allocation. We develop an iterative algorithm to solve the non-convex problem globally optimally. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach compared with the traditional schemes.

Performance Analysis of RIS-Aided Double Spatial Scattering Modulation for mmWave MIMO Systems

In this paper, we investigate a practical structure of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-based double spatial scattering modulation (DSSM) for millimeter-wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. A suboptimal detector is proposed, in which the beam direction is first demodulated according to the received beam strength, and then the remaining information is demodulated by adopting the maximum likelihood algorithm. Based on the proposed suboptimal detector, we derive the conditional pairwise error probability expression. Further, the exact numerical integral and closed-form expressions of unconditional pairwise error probability (UPEP) are derived via two different approaches. To provide more insights, we derive the upper bound and asymptotic expressions of UPEP. In addition, the diversity gain of the RIS-DSSM scheme was also given. Furthermore, the union upper bound of average bit error probability (ABEP) is obtained by combining the UPEP and the number of error bits. Simulation results are provided to validate the derived upper bound and asymptotic expressions of ABEP. We found an interesting phenomenon that the ABEP performance of the proposed system-based phase shift keying is better than that of the quadrature amplitude modulation. Additionally, the performance advantage of ABEP is more significant with the increase in the number of RIS elements.

Intelligent Reflecting Surface-Aided Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive Radio

Spectrum sensing is a key enabling technique for cognitive radio (CR), which provides essential information on the spectrum availability. However, due to severe wireless channel fading and path loss, the primary user (PU) signals received at the CR or secondary user (SU) can be practically too weak for reliable detection. To tackle this issue, we consider in this letter a new intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-aided spectrum sensing scheme for CR, by exploiting the large aperture and passive beamforming gains of IRS to boost the PU signal strength received at the SU to facilitate its spectrum sensing. Specifically, by dynamically changing the IRS reflection over time according to a given codebook, its reflected signal power varies substantially at the SU, which is utilized for opportunistic signal detection. Furthermore, we propose a weighted energy detection method by combining the received signal power values over different IRS reflections, which significantly improves the detection performance. Simulation results validate the performance gain of the proposed IRS-aided spectrum sensing scheme, as compared to different benchmark schemes.

Data Sensing and Offloading in Edge Computing Networks: TDMA or NOMA?

With the development of Internet-of-Things (IoT), we witness the explosive growth in the number of devices with sensing, computing, and communication capabilities, along with a large amount of raw data generated at the network edge. Mobile (multi-access) edge computing (MEC), acquiring and processing data at network edge (like base station (BS)) via wireless links, has emerged as a promising technique for real-time applications. In this paper, we consider the scenario that multiple devices sense then offload data to an edge server/BS, and the offloading throughput maximization problems are studied by joint radio-and-computation resource allocation, based on time-division multiple access (TDMA) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) multiuser computation offloading. Particularly, we take the sequence of TDMA-based multiuser transmission/offloading into account. The studied problems are NP-hard and non-convex. A set of low-complexity algorithms are designed based on decomposition approach and exploration of valuable insights of problems. They are either optimal or can achieve close-to-optimal performance as shown by simulation. The comprehensive simulation results show that the sequence optimized TDMA scheme achieves better throughput performance than the NOMA scheme, while the NOMA scheme is better under the assumptions of time-sharing strategy and the identical sensing capability of the devices.

Noise Is Useful: Exploiting Data Diversity for Edge Intelligence

Edge intelligence requires to fast access distributed data samples generated by edge devices. The challenge is using limited radio resource to acquire massive data samples for training machine learning models at edge server. In this article, we propose a new communication-efficient edge intelligence scheme where the most useful data samples are selected to train the model. Here the usefulness or values of data samples is measured by data diversity which is defined as the difference between data samples. We derive a close-form expression of data diversity that combines data informativeness and channel quality. Then a joint data-and-channel diversity aware multiuser scheduling algorithm is proposed. We find that noise is useful for enhancing data diversity under some conditions.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces with Reflection Pattern Modulation: Beamforming Design and Performance Analysis

Recent considerations for reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) assume that RISs can convey information by reflection without the need of transmit radio frequency chains, which, however, is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose an RIS-enhanced multiple-input single-output system with reflection pattern modulation, where the RIS can configure its reflection state for boosting the received signal power via passive beamforming and simultaneously conveying its own information via reflection. We formulate an optimization problem to maximize the average received signal power by jointly optimizing the active beamforming at the access point (AP) and passive beamforming at the RIS for the case where the RIS's state information is statistically known by the AP, and propose a high-quality suboptimal solution based on the alternating optimization technique. We analyze the asymptotic outage probability of the proposed scheme under Rayleigh fading channels, for which a closed-form expression is derived. The achievable rate of the proposed scheme is also investigated for the case where the transmitted symbol is drawn from a finite constellation. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and reveal the effect of various system parameters on the achievable rate performance. It is shown that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional RIS-assisted system without information transfer in terms of achievable rate performance.

Data-Importance Aware Radio Resource Allocation: Wireless Communication Helps Machine Learning

The rich mobile data and edge computing enabled wireless networks motivate to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) at network edge, known as \emph{edge AI}, which integrates wireless communication and machine learning. In communication, data bits are equally important, while in machine learning some data bits are more important. Therefore we can allocate more radio resources to the more important data and allocate less radio resources to the less important data, so as to efficiently utilize the limited radio resources. To this end, how to define "more or less important" of data is the key problem. In this article, we propose two importance criteria to differentiate data's importance based on their effects on machine learning, one for centralized edge machine learning and the other for distributed edge machine learning. Then, the corresponding radio resource allocation schemes are proposed to improve performance of machine learning. Extensive experiments are conducted for verifying the effectiveness of the proposed data-importance aware radio resource allocation schemes.

NOMA-Aided Mobile Edge Computing via User Cooperation

Exploiting the idle computation resources of mobile devices in mobile edge computing (MEC) system can achieve both channel diversity and computing diversity as mobile devices can offload their computation tasks to nearby mobile devices in addition to MEC server embedded access point (AP). In this paper, we propose a non-orthogonal multiple-access (NOMA)-aided cooperative computing scheme in a basic three-node MEC system consisting of a user, a helper, and an AP. In particular, we assume that the user can simultaneously offload data to the helper and the AP using NOMA, while the helper can locally compute data and offload data to the AP at the same time. We study two optimization problems, energy consumption minimization and offloading data maximization, by joint communication and computation resource allocation of the user and helper. We find the optimal solutions for the two non-convex problems by some proper mathematical methods. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes. Some useful insights are provided for practical designs.

Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access For Cooperative Communications: Challenges, Opportunities, And Trends

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising radio access technique for next-generation wireless networks. In this article, we investigate the NOMA-based cooperative relay network. We begin with an introduction of the existing relay-assisted NOMA systems by classifying them into three categories: uplink, downlink, and composite architectures. Then, we discuss their principles and key features, and provide a comprehensive comparison from the perspective of spectral efficiency, energy efficiency, and total transmit power. A novel strategy termed hybrid power allocation is further discussed for the composite architecture, which can reduce the computational complexity and signaling overhead at the expense of marginal sum rate degradation. Finally, major challenges, opportunities, and future research trends for the design of NOMA-based cooperative relay systems with other techniques are also highlighted to provide insights for researchers in this field.
