Dark Matter as a Source for Lepton Flavor Violation

We will witness enormous progress in the experimental sensitivity to charged-lepton-violation processes in the near future. New physics signals of charged lepton violation might be around the corner without conflicting with existing astrophysical and accelerator bounds. In this work, we explore the possibility of having a dark matter particle as a source for $\mu\to e \gamma$, $\mu \to 3e$, and $\mu\to e$ conversion in nuclei. After computing the dark matter relic density and dark matter-nucleon scattering cross section, we outline the region of parameter space where one can simultaneously accommodate a dark matter fermion in agreement with existing collider and direct detection bounds, and positive signals in charged lepton violation observables.

Latin American HECAP Physics Briefing Book 2025

The first process for the Latin American Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructure for High Energy, Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (LASF4RI-HECAP) came to a conclusion in October 2020, with a Physics Briefing Book (PBB) presented in (2104.06852). Here we present an updated PBB, the result of the first update of LASF4RI-HECAP. The update process began with a call for White Papers from the HECAP community. The submitted contributions were presented at the III LASF4RI for HECAP Symposium: Update of the Strategic Plan, held at ICTP-SAIFR in S\~ao Paulo in August 26-29, 2024, with the participation of the Preparatory Group, High Level Strategy Group, Funding Agencies and representatives of similar efforts from around the globe. This updated PBB was written by the Preparatory Group based mainly on 46 White Papers submitted by the community and is organized around seven working groups: Astronomy, Astrophysics and Astroparticle Physics; Cosmology; Dark Matter; Neutrinos; Electroweak and Strong Interactions, Higgs Physics, CP and Flavour Physics and BSM; Instrumentation and Computing; Advanced Training and Capacity Building. It is intended to provide the essential input for the creation of a long-term HECAP strategy in the region.

Updated Bounds on the Minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model from LHC Dilepton Resonance Searches

The Left-Right model is a popular extension of the Standard Model that features three new neutral gauge bosons, $W^{\pm}_R$ and $Z_R$. Collider searches for a Left-Right symmetry are often concentrated on the charged right-handed current, but in this work, we take advantage of the dilepton data at the LHC with center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and 139 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity to place lower mass bounds in the $Z_R$ mass based on the $p\,p \rightarrow Z_{R} \rightarrow \ell^{+} \, \ell^{-}$ process. We vary the $SU(2)_R$ gauge coupling from $g_{R}=0.4$ to $g_{R}=1.0$, and impose $M_{Z_R}>4.9$ TeV and $M_{Z_{R}}>6.1$ TeV, respectively. Lastly, we put our findings into perspective with $W_R$ searches at the LHC and show that our limits cover an unexplored region of parameter space, where the right-handed neutrino is heavier than the $W_R$ boson.

Present and Future constraints on Secluded Dark Matter in the Galactic Halo with TeV Gamma-ray Observatories

The dark matter relic density may be governed by the presence of new mediators that connect the dark matter field with the Standard Model particles. When the dark matter particle mass is larger than the mediator's, the pair production of mediators is kinematically open. This setup is known in the literature as secluded dark matter. Motivated by the appearance of secluded dark matter in several model building endeavours, we investigate the sensitivity of TeV gamma-ray instruments in the Southern Hemisphere namely, H.E.S.S., CTA, and SWGO to secluded dark matter annihilating in the Galactic Halo. We exploit the complementarity aspects of these detectors to find restrictive bounds on the annihilation cross-section for different annihilation channels. In particular, for a dark matter particle mass of $2$~TeV, H.E.S.S. is able to constraint $\langle σv \rangle \geq 4 \times 10^{-26}\,\, {\rm cm}^3\, {\rm s}^{-1}$ at 95\% confidence level for the $4q$ and $4τ$ channel, while CTA will be sensitive to $\langle σv \rangle \geq 7 \times 10^{-27}\,\, {\rm cm}^3\, {\rm s}^{-1}$ and SWGO $\langle σv \rangle \geq 6 \times 10^{-27}\,\, {\rm cm}^3\, {\rm s}^{-1}$ for the $4τ$ channel, both well below the thermal relic cross-section. In fact, the combination of CTA and SWGO will be able to probe cross-sections below the thermal relic value for dark matter particles in the whole mass range between 100 GeV and 100 TeV in the $4q$ and $4τ$ channels, and between 100 GeV and $\sim$40 TeV in the $4b$ channel.

Models with two Higgs doublets and a light pseudoscalar:a portal to dark matter and the possible $\mathbf{(g-2)_μ}$ excess

In the context of a two-Higgs doublet model, supplemented by an additional light pseudoscalar Higgs boson and a stable isosinglet fermion, we consider the possibility of addressing simultaneously the discrepancy from the standard expectation of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon recently measured at Fermilab and the longstanding problem of the dark matter in the universe which can be accounted for by a thermal weakly interacting massive particle. We show that it is indeed possible, for a range of masses and couplings of the new light pseudoscalar and the fermionic states, to explain at the same time the two features while satisfying all other constraints from astroparticle physics and collider searches, including the constraints from flavor physics.

Indirect Searches for Secluded Dark Matter

Dark matter is one of the most important open problems in particle physics and cosmology. Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) appear as an appealing solution, providing the right relic density with a cross-section at the electroweak scale, however, no WIMP signals were observed until now. Secluded models are good alternatives to the standard ones. In this case, instead of a direct annihilation to the standard model (SM) particles, the dark matter annihilates into mediators which subsequently decay into SM particles. In this way, secluded models may avoid the stringent limits from direct searches, and, at the same time, be probed by indirect detection experiments. Motivated by the appearance of secluded dark matter in several model building endeavors, in this talk, we will present the sensitivity of several gamma-ray instruments (current and prospects), including Fermi-LAT, H.E.S.S., CTA, and SWGO, to secluded dark matter annihilations in the inner galactic halo, and in the dwarf spheroidal galaxies, covering a wide range dark matter masses, from tens of GeV to hundreds of TeV.

Has AMS-02 Observed Two-Component Dark Matter?

There is convincing observational evidence for an increasing cosmic-ray positron-to-electron ratio at energies larger than $\sim 10$~GeV, at odds with expectations from secondary positron production. The most recent AMS-02 data exhibit an interesting spectral feature consisting of a bump at an energy around $300$~GeV followed by a drop around $\sim 800$~GeV. A possible explanation to the most recent data is that the excess positron originates from decaying dark matter. Here, we show that models consisting of two dark matter particle species contributing equally to the global cosmological dark matter density provide strikingly good fits to the data. The favored models, with a best-fit with $χ^2/d.o.f \sim 0.5$ consist of a first species weighing $750$~GeV decaying with a lifetime $τ_χ\sim 10^{26}$~s to $τ$ lepton pairs (or to a pair of vector bosons subsequently decaying to a $τ$ pair each), and a second species with a mass around 2.3 TeV decaying to $μ$ lepton pairs. We provide a few possible concrete realizations for this scenario.
