Shadow and quasinormal modes of the Kerr-Newman-Kiselev-Letelier black hole

We investigate the null geodesics and the shadow cast by the Kerr-Newman-Kiselev-Letelier (KNKL) black hole for the equation of state parameter $ω_q=-2/3$ and for different values of the spacetime parameters, including the quintessence parameter $γ$, the cloud of string (CS) parameter $b$, the spin parameter $a$ and the charge $Q$ of the black hole. We notice that for the increasing values of the parameters $γ$ and $b$ the size of the shadow of the KNKL black hole increases and consequently the strength of the gravitational field of the black hole increases. On the other hand with increase in the charge $Q$ of the black hole the size of the shadow of the black hole decreases. Further with the increase in the values of the spin parameter $a$ of the KNKL black hole, we see that the distortion of the shadow of the black hole becomes more prominent. Moreover we use the data released by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, to restrict the parameters $b$ and $γ$ for the KNKL black hole, using the shadow cast by the KNKL black hole. To this end, we also explore the relation between the typical shadow radius and the equatorial and polar quasinormal mods (QNMs) for the KNKL black hole and extend this correspondence to non-asymptotically flat spacetimes. We also study the emission energy rate from the KNKL black hole for the various spacetime parameters, and observe that it increases for the increasing values of both the parameters $γ$ and $b$ for fixed charge-to-mass and spin-to-mass ratios of the KNKL black hole. Finally, we investigate the effects of plasma on the photon motion, size and shape of the shadow cast by the KNKL black hole...

Optical properties of Kerr-Newman spacetime in the presence of plasma

We have studied the null geodesics in the background of the Kerr-Newman black hole veiled by a plasma medium using the Hamilton-Jacobi method. The in uence of black hole's charge and plasma parameters on the effective potential and the generic photon orbits has been investigated. Furthermore, our discussion embodies the effects of black hole's charge, plasma and the inclination angle on the shadow cast by the gravity with and without the spin parameter. We examined the energy released from the black hole as a result of the thermal radiations, which exclusively depends on the size of the shadow. The angle of de ection of the massless particles is also explored considering a weak-field approximation. We present our results in juxtaposition to the analogous black holes in General Relativity, particularly the Schwarzschild and Kerr black hole.

Rotating charged black hole in $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: Photon motion and its shadow

We construct a charged rotating black hole in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity starting from charged black hole in 4D EGB gravity using complex coordinate transformations suggested by Newman-Janis. Further, we have studied the null geodesics to investigate the shape of the shadow cast by a rotating charged black hole in 4D EGB gravity. Also we have discussed their horizon properties and shadow cast. The phenomenon of black hole shadows alongwith the horizon structure and energy emission has been analysed to see the influence of Gauss-Bonnet term and black hole charge on horizon, shadow, effective potential and energy emission rate which are compared to their non rotating counterpart. It has been seen that the Gauss Bonnet parameter have an influence on the shape and size of the shadow as well as on the effective potential, horizon and energy emission rate.

Shadow and deflection angle of charged rotating black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter

We analysed the shadow cast by charged rotating black hole (BH) in presence of perfect fluid dark matter (PFDM). We studied the null geodesic equations and obtained the shadow of the charged rotating BH to see the effects of PFDM parameter $γ$, charge $Q$ and rotation parameter $a$, and it is noticed that the size as well as the shape of BH shadow is affected due to PFDM parameter, charge and rotation parameter. Thus, it is seen that the presence of dark matter around a BH affects its spacetime. We also investigated the influence of all the parameters (PFDM parameter $γ$, BHs charge $Q$ and rotational parameter $a$) on effective potential, energy emission by graphical representation, and compare all the results with the non rotating case in usual general relativity. To this end, we have also explored the effect of PFDM on the deflection angle and the size of Einstein rings.

Retrolensing by a spherically symmetric naked singularity

Considering a strong field limit, we investigate the retrolensing phenomenon in the vicinity of a Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) naked singularity embedded in a scalar field. We assume that the light rays from a nearby source are reflected by the photon sphere of the naked singularity, acting as a lens, to create a pair of images. The analytic expressions of the lensing coefficients $\bar{a}$ and $\bar{b}$ are obtained, which are scalar dependent and discordant with \cite{Bozza:2002b}. Moreover, considering the powerful supermassive black hole candidates Sgr A* and M87*, we examined the influence of the scalar field on the apparent brightness and angular positions of the parity images. Our results are highlighted in correspondence with a non-scalar field gravity, specifically the Schwarzschild gravity. We have found that the brightness increases in the presence of the scalar field, while, the lensing coefficients $\bar{a}$, $\bar{b}$, the angular positions and the angular separation of the relativistic images experience a reverse effect.

Axion-plasmon or magnetized plasma effect on an observable shadow and gravitational lensing of a Schwarzschild black hole

In this paper, we study the influence of the axion-plasmon, as proposed in (Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 181803 (2018)) on the optical properties of the Schwarzschild black hole. Our aim is to provide a test to detect the effects of a fixed axion background using black holes. To accomplish our goal, we explore the effect of the axion-plasmon coupling on the motion of photons around the Schwarzschild black hole and check the possibility of observing those effects upon the black hole shadow, the gravitational deflection angle, Einstein rings and shadow images obtained by radially infalling gas on a black hole within a plasma medium. We find that these quantities are indeed affected by the axion-plasmon coupling parameters which consequently generalize some of the well-known results in the literature. It is shown that the size of the black hole shadow decreases with increasing axion-plasmon if observed from sufficiently large distance.

Charged black hole in $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: Particle motion, plasma effect on weak gravitational lensing and centre-of-mass energy

We study the motion of charged and spinning particles and photons in the $4D$ charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) black hole vicinity. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for test particles. We show that the combined effect of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling parameter and black hole charge decreases the ISCO and the radius of the photon sphere. Further, we study the gravitational deflection angle and show that the impact of GB term and black hole charge on it is quite noticeable. We also consider the effect of plasma and find the analytical form of the deflection angle in the case of a uniform and non-uniform plasma. Interestingly we find that the deflection angle becomes larger when uniform plasma is considered in comparison to the case of non-uniform plasma. We also study the center of mass energy ($E_{C.M.}$) obtained by collision process for non-spinning particles and show that the impact of GB parameter and black hole charge leads to high energy collision. In addition, we also study the $E_{C.M.}$ for the case of spinning particles and show that if the two spinning particles collide near the horizon of $4D$ charged EGB BH, the $E_{C.M.}$ becomes infinitely high which is in disparity with the non-spinning particles counterpart where $E_{C.M.}$ never grows infinitely. To achieve this, an important role is played by the spinning particle known as the \textit{near-critical} particle (i.e. a particle with fine-tuned parameters). In order to achieve the unbounded $E_{C.M}$ from the collision of two spinning particles, the energy per unit mass must be less than unity for a \textit{near-critical} particle, which means such a particle starts from some intermediate position $r>r_{h}$ and not from infinity.

Gravitational lensing in 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in the presence of plasma

In this paper we have assumed a weak-field regime to explore the gravitational lensed photons in a 4 dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which is very much in the limelight these days. The investigation is conducted in three distinct paradigms: uniform plasma, singular isothermal sphere and a non-singular isothermal sphere. The lensing angle associated with the distribution factor of the medium is individually derived for each case and further utilized to study the magnification of the image source brightness, selectively for the uniform plasma and singular isothermal sphere. The attained results are brought forth in contrast with the standard Schwarzschild geometry

Particle acceleration around rotating Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole and plasma effect on gravitational lensing

We consider a time-like geodesics in the background of rotating Einstein-Born-Infeld (EBI) black hole to examine the horizon and ergosphere structure. The effective potential that governs the particle's motion in the spacetime and the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) is also studied. A qualitative analysis is conducted to find the redshifted ultrahigh centre-of-mass (CM) energy as a result of a two-particle collision specifically near the horizon. The recent Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) triggered a surge of interest in strong gravitational lensing by black holes, which provide a new tool comparing the black hole lensing in general relativity and alternate gravity theories. Motivated by this, we also discussed both strong and weak-field gravitational lensing in the space-time discretely for a uniform plasma and a singular isothermal sphere. We calculated the light deflection coefficients $\bar{a}$ and $\bar{b}$ in the strong field limits, and their variance with the rotational parameter $a$ for different plasma frequency as well as in vacuum. For EBI black holes, we found that plasma's presence increases the photon sphere radius, the deflection angle, the deflection coefficients $\bar{a}$, $\bar{b}$, the angular positions and the angular separation between the relativistic images. It is also shown that with increasing spin the impact of plasma on a strong gravitational lensing becomes smaller as the spin parameter grows in the prograde orbit ($a>0$). For extreme black holes, the strong gravitational effects in the homogenous plasma are similar to those of in a vacuum. We investigate strong gravitational lensing effects by supermassive black holes Sgr A* and M87*...

Geodesic circular orbits sharing the same orbital frequencies in the black string spacetime

Here we consider isofrequency pairing of geodesic orbits that share the same three orbital frequencies associated with $Ω^{\hat{r}}$, $Ω^{\hatφ}$, and $Ω^{\hatω}$ in a particular region of parameter space around black string spacetime geometry. We study the effect arising from the extra compact spatial dimension on the isofrequency pairing of geodesic orbits and show that such orbits would occur and become in a cylindrical manner in the allowed region as particles move along the black string. We find that the effect due to the extra dimension leads to an increase in the number of the isofrequency pairing of geodesic orbits. We also find that isofrequency pairing of geodesic orbits in the region of parameter space can not be realized beyond the critical value $J_{cr} \approx 0.096$ of the conserved quantity of the motion due to the extra compact spatial dimension for given parameters of the black string.

Magnetized particle motion around 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Black Hole

In this paper, we have investigated the dynamics of magnetized particles around 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We have shown that the magnetic interaction parameter responsible for circular orbits decreases for negative values of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter $α$ and the range where magnetized particle's stable circular orbits are allowed increases for the positive values of the parameter $α$. The study of the collisions of magnetized, charged and neutral particles has shown that the center-of-mass energy of the particles increases in the presence of positive Gauss-Bonnet parameter. Finally, we show how the magnetic interaction and Gauss-Bonnet parameter may mimic the effect of rotation of the Kerr black hole giving the same ISCO radius for magnetized particles. Detailed analysis of the ISCO show that spin of Kerr black hole can not be mimicked by the effects of magnetic interaction and the Gauss-Bonnet parameters when $α<-4.37$ and the spin parameter $a > 0.237$.

Optical properties of black hole in the presence of plasma: shadow

We have studied photon motion around axially symmetric rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of plasma with radial power-law density. It is shown that in the presence of plasma the observed shape and size of shadow changes depending on i) plasma parameters, ii) black hole spin and iii) inclination angle between observer plane and axis of rotation of black hole. In order to extract pure effect of plasma influence on black hole image the particular case of the Schwarzschild black hole has also been investigated and it has been shown that i) the photon sphere around the spherical symmetric black hole is left unchanged under the plasma influence, ii) however the Schwarzschild black hole shadow size in plasma is reduced due to the refraction of the electromagnetic radiation in plasma environment of black hole. The study of the energy emission from the black hole in plasma shows that in the presence of plasma the maximal energy emission rate from the black hole decreases.

Energetics and optical properties of $6$-dimensional rotating black hole in pure Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study physical processes around a rotating black hole in pure Gauss-Bonnet (GB) gravity. In pure GB gravity, gravitational potential has slower fall off as compared to the corresponding Einstein potential in the same dimension. It is therefore expected that the energetics of pure GB black hole would be weaker, and our analysis bears out that the efficiency of energy extraction by Penrose process is increased to $25.8\%$ and particle acceleration is increased to $55.28\%$, and optical shadow of the black hole is decreased. These are the distinguishing in principle observable features of pure GB black hole.

Horizon structure of rotating Einstein-Born-Infeld black holes and shadow

We investigate the horizon structure of the rotating Einstein-Born-Infeld solution which goes over to the Einstein-Maxwell's Kerr-Newman solution as the Born-Infeld parameter goes to infinity ($β\rightarrow \infty$). We find that for a given $β$, mass $M$ and charge $Q$, there exist critical spinning parameter $a_{E}$ and $r_{H}^{E}$, which corresponds to an extremal Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole with degenerate horizons, and $a_{E}$ decreases and $r_{H}^{E}$ increases with increase in the Born-Infeld parameter $β$. While $a<a_{E}$ describe a non-extremal Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole with outer and inner horizons. Similarly, the effect of $β$ on infinite redshift surface and in turn on ergoregion is also included. It is well known that a black hole can cast a shadow as an optical appearance due to its strong gravitational field. We also investigate the shadow cast by the non-rotating ($a=0$) Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole and demonstrate that the null geodesic equations can be integrated that allows us to investigate the shadow cast by a black hole which is found to be a dark zone covered by a circle. Interestingly, the shadow of the Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole is slightly smaller than for the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. F urther, the shadow is concentric circles whose radius decreases with increase in value of parameter $β$.

Shadow of five-dimensional rotating Myers-Perry black hole

A black hole casts a shadow as an optical appearance because of its strong gravitational field. We study the shadow cast by the five-dimensional Myers-Perry black hole with equal rotation parameters. We demonstrate that the null geodesic equations can be integrated that allows us to investigate the shadow cast by a black hole. The shadow of a black hole is found to be a dark zone covered by deformed circle. Interestingly, the shapes of the black hole shadow are more distorted and size decreases for larger black hole spins. Interestingly, it turns out that, for fixed values of rotation parameter, the shadow is slightly smaller and less deformed than for its four-dimensional Kerr black counterpart. Further, the shadow of the five-dimensional Kerr black hole is concentric deformed circles. The effect of rotation parameter on the shape and size of a naked singularity shadow is also analyzed.

Shadow of Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole

The shadow of a rotating black hole with nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge has been studied. It was shown that in addition to the angular momentum of black hole the gravitomagnetic charge term deforms the shape of the black hole shadow. From the numerical results we have obtained that for a given value of the rotation parameter, the presence of a gravitomagnetic charge enlarges the shadow and reduces its deformation with respect to the spacetime without gravitomagnetic charge. Finally we have studied the capture cross section for massive particles by black hole with the nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge.
