Resolving electronic evolution during bond dissociation

Coupled electronic and nuclear motions govern chemical reactions, yet resolving how electronic structure evolves during bond dissociation remains a central challenge. Here we investigate the photodissociation of Br2 using correlated photoelectron photoion coincidence measurements. A 400 nm pulse initiates dissociation, while strong field ionization probes the evolving molecular system. Coincident measurement of three dimensional photoion and photoelectron momenta provides simultaneous access to the internuclear separation and the accompanying electronic evolution. We identify multiple distinct stages of electronic evolution during bond dissociation. The reshaping of the ionizing molecular orbital occurs first, followed by redistribution and localization of the electronic charge density, and finally by the gradual decay of residual electronic coherence between the separating atomic centers. Between the molecular and atomic limits, we observe an intermediate bond-breaking state in which localized atomic character coexists with a partially delocalized electronic response. By combining correlated observables with semiclassical modelling, we resolve the temporal ordering of these coupled electronic and nuclear processes and determine their associated dynamical timescales. These results demonstrate how correlated momentum observables can disentangle different aspects of the molecular-to-atomic transition.

Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relation For a Multi-Phase Alternating Renewal Random Walk

Thermodynamic Uncertainty Relations (TURs) impose universal bounds linking current precision to entropy production in nonequilibrium systems. While general bounds like the Proesmans--Van den Broeck (PV) relation provide a broad framework, they often remain loose for processes characterized by renewal events. In this work, we derive a generalized entropic bound for current fluctuations in renewal-reward processes. By utilizing a rigorous variance decomposition within the framework of renewal-reward theory, we obtain a model-independent bound that is not only rigorous but tighter than the standard PV relation. Notably, in the linear-response regime, our bound correctly scales with the renewal rate and identifies a precision penalty arising from cycle-length fluctuations. These results provide a physically informative constraint on the precision of run-and-tumble-type dynamics and highlight the universal limits of transport in complex stochastic walkers.

On Some Hereditary and Super Classes of Directly Finite Abelian Groups

Continuing recent studies of both the hereditary and super properties of certain classes of Abelian groups, we explore in-depth what is the situation in the quite large class consisting of directly finite Abelian groups. Trying to connect some of these classes, we specifically succeeded to prove the surprising criteria that a relatively Hopfian group is hereditarily only when it is extended Bassian, as well as that, a relatively Hopfian group is super only when it is extended Bassian. In this aspect, additional relevant necessary and sufficient conditions in a slightly more general context are also proved.

LightDepth: A Resource Efficient Depth Estimation Approach for Dealing with Ground Truth Sparsity via Curriculum Learning

Advances in neural networks enable tackling complex computer vision tasks such as depth estimation of outdoor scenes at unprecedented accuracy. Promising research has been done on depth estimation. However, current efforts are computationally resource-intensive and do not consider the resource constraints of autonomous devices, such as robots and drones. In this work, we present a fast and battery-efficient approach for depth estimation. Our approach devises model-agnostic curriculum-based learning for depth estimation. Our experiments show that the accuracy of our model performs on par with the state-of-the-art models, while its response time outperforms other models by 71%. Longitudinal Analysis of Heart Rate and Physical Activity Collected from Smartwatches

Smartwatches (SWs) can continuously and autonomously monitor vital signs, including heart rates and physical activities involving wrist movement. The monitoring capability of SWs has several key health benefits arising from their role in preventive and diagnostic medicine. Current research, however, has not explored many of these opportunities, including longitudinal studies. In our work, we gathered longitudinal data points, e.g., heart rate and physical activity, from various brands of SWs worn by 1,014 users. Our analysis shows three common heart rate patterns during sleep but two common patterns during the day. We find that heart rate and physical activities are higher in summer and the first month of the new year compared to other months. Moreover, physical activities are reduced on weekends compared with weekdays. Interestingly, the highest peak of physical activity is during the evening.
