Securing UAV Communication: Authentication and Integrity

Recent technological advancements have seen the integration of unmanned aerial networks (UAVs) into various sectors, from civilian missions to military operations. In this context, ensuring security, precisely authentication, is essential to prevent data theft and manipulation. A Man-in-the-Middle attack not only compromises network integrity but also threatens the original data, potentially leading to theft or alteration. In this work, we proposed an authentication method to secure UAV data exchange over an insecure communication channel. Our solution combines Diffie-Hellman (DH) key exchange and Hash-based Message Authentication Code (HMAC) within ROS communication channels to authenticate exchanged UAV data. We evaluated our method by measuring transmission time and simulating key tampering, finding acceptable performance for DH key sizes below 4096 bits but longer times for larger sizes due to increased complexity. Both drones successfully detected tampered keys, affirming our method's efficacy in protecting UAV communication. However, scalability challenges in resource-constrained environments warrant further research.

Illuminating Networks: Enhancing Visible Light Communication with Physical-Layer Network Coding (PNC-VLC Scheme)

Wireless communications using light waves are called visible light communication. A technique called Physical-layer Network coding allows several users to communicate simultaneously over the same channel in a distributed space-time Coding scheme. Herein, we report a new PNC-VLC one-to-many scheme using physical-layer network coding in VLC system for enhancing throughput by boosting data transmission at relay nodes. We develop an integrated PNC-VLC framework including physical-layer signal processing algorithms and medium access control approaches. Our proposed technique is then modelled mathematically and compared with some of the VLC and PNC-VLC schemes under various channel conditions and scenarios. Our investigation revealed that our proposed technique performed better than traditional PNC schemes in achieving better Bit Error Rate performance in different channel

Outage Probability in Network Coding Based Cooperative Wireless Networks over Nakagami-m Fading Channels

In this paper, we develop an accurate closed-form analytic expression of the outage probability for each source-destination (S-D) pair in the two S-D pairs two relays wireless network, where cooperative network coding is applied over Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. For different values of the shape parameter $m$, our analytic relation is validated with Monte-Carlo simulations of the outage probability using the overall equivalent signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) within each source-destination pair. The outage probability is also provided for the extended versions of the network consisting of multiple relays and multiple S-D pairs. Furthermore, we investigate the role of varying the fading factor ($m$ values) on different links in the end-to-end outage probability performance, which yields interesting results that may be crucial for relay selection and power allocation procedures. Moreover, we derive the diversity order for the generalized extended version of cooperative network coded wireless networks.

SD-WAN over MPLS: A Comprehensive Performance Analysis and Security with Insights into the Future of SD-WAN

Software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) enhances network traffic management, while Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) offers efficient data transmission. This paper analyzes SD-WAN over MPLS in the Housing Bank, a major Algerian financial institution. We deploy FortiGate for the SD-WAN solution, comparing it to traditional MPLS and direct internet access across metrics like bandwidth, latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, and quality of service (QoS). Security measures include encryption, firewall, intrusion prevention, web filtering, antivirus, and addressing threats like spoofing, DoS attacks, and unauthorized access. We explore future trends such as SASE architecture, AI/ML integration, and emerging transport methods. SD-WAN over MPLS proves advantageous, offering enhanced performance, security, and flexibility. Recommendations include ongoing performance monitoring and research.

A Cooperative NOMA User Pairing in UAV-Based Wireless Networks

NOMA (non-orthogonal multiple access) will be seen as a promising technology for enhancing spectrum efficiency in future cellular networks. The use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relaying as a moving access point or BS, on the other hand, has emerged as a potential solution to wireless networks' high traffic demands. In this paper, we study joint user pair and resource allocation-based distance to optimize fair throughput in a downlink scenario, which concentrates on UAV-aided communication from different wireless-powered nodes. Several transmission methods are proposed, including NOMA as well as UAV cooperative relaying and two representative node-pairing strategies. The simulation results illustrate that the proposed user pairing strategies for cooperative NOMA and UAV-based cellular networks enhance downlink transmission performance and ensure optimum use of power and bandwidth resources.

Subspace Coding for Error Control and Interference Mitigation in Routing Solutions with Cooperative Destination Nodes

Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC) is a transmission scheme that opts for linear combinations of the transmitted packets at a subset of the intermediate nodes. This scheme is usually considered when Network Coding (NC) is desired over non-coherent networks. In order to integrate error correction in RLNC, subspace codes have been proposed. The codewords in those codes are unchanged under rank-preserving row operations, making them convenient for RLNC. In this paper, we investigate the use of those codes for the interference channel in a system model consisting of an array of SISO communication systems with cooperative destination nodes. This system model is deemed as a simplified model of a network with a routing based transmission scheme. Results have indicated that the use of subspace codes have allowed for better performance in terms of the decoding failure probability.

Deep learning approach for interruption attacks detection in LEO satellite networks

The developments of satellite communication in network systems require strong and effective security plans. Attacks such as denial of service (DoS) can be detected through the use of machine learning techniques, especially under normal operational conditions. This work aims to provide an interruption detection strategy for Low Earth Orbit (\textsf{LEO}) satellite networks using deep learning algorithms. Both the training, and the testing of the proposed models are carried out with our own communication datasets, created by utilizing a satellite traffic (benign and malicious) that was generated using satellite networks simulation platforms, Omnet++ and Inet. We test different deep learning algorithms including Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), and Long Short-term Memory (LSTM). Followed by a full analysis and investigation of detection rate in both binary classification, and multi-classes classification that includes different interruption categories such as Distributed DoS (DDoS), Network Jamming, and meteorological disturbances. Simulation results for both classification types surpassed 99.33% in terms of detection rate in scenarios of full network surveillance. However, in more realistic scenarios, the best-recorded performance was 96.12% for the detection of binary traffic and 94.35% for the detection of multi-class traffic with a false positive rate of 3.72%, using a hybrid model that combines MLP and GRU. This Deep Learning approach efficiency calls for the necessity of using machine learning methods to improve security and to give more awareness to search for solutions that facilitate data collection in LEO satellite networks.

Effective Capacity Analysis of H-ARQ Assisted Cooperative Communication Systems

In this paper, the effective capacity of cooperative communication (CC) systems with hybrid Automatic repeat request (HARQ) is derived. The derived expressions are valid for any channel distribution and with any arbitrary number of retransmissions by the source and relay for both HARQ-repetition redundancy (RR) and HARQ-incremental redundancy (IR) over asymmetric channels. As an example, we use the derived EC expression over Rayleigh fading channels. Several results are obtained for a low rate and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We can see that the EC attends its maximum value with a small number of retransmissions. As expected when the relay-destination channel has low SNR, it is better than the relay does not participate especially when we assign a large number of transitions at the relay. For high data rates and strict quality of service (QoS) constraints, it is better to increase the number of relay transmissions. Finally, when we increase the number of source retransmissions, the effective capacity improves even for low values.

A New Distribution Version of Boneh-Goh-Nissim Cryptosystem: Security and performance analysis

The aim of this paper is to provide two distributed versions of the Boneh-Goh-Nissim Cryptosystem (BGNC). We give a proof of the semantic security for the first one. This guaranties that our algorithm is semantically secure in the contest of active non-adaptive adversaries. Furthermore, we prove that the second version of our distributed scheme is computationally more efficient than the ElGamal destributed elliptic curve cryptosystem (EDECC) and secure under the Subgroup Decision problem (SDP) assumption.

Joint Channel Coding and Cooperative Network Coding on PSK Constellations in Wireless Networks

In this paper, we consider the application of Reed- Solomon (RS) channel coding for joint error correction and cooperative network coding on non-binary phase shift keying (PSK) modulated signals. The relay first decodes the RS channel coded messages received each in a time slot from all sources before applying network coding (NC) by the use of bit-level exclusive OR (XOR) operation. The network coded resulting message is then channel encoded before its transmission to the next relay or to the destination according to the network configuration. This scenario shows superior performance in comparison with the case where the relay does not perform channel coding/decoding. For different orders of PSK modulation and different wireless configurations, simulation results demonstrate the improvements resulting from the use of RS channel codes in terms of symbol error rate (SER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

An Enhanced Interleaving Frame Loss Concealment Method for Voice Over IP Network Services

This paper focuses on AMR WB G.722.2 speech codec, and discusses the unused bandwidth resources of the senders by using a Word16(16 bit) to encode the sent frames. A packet loss concealment (PLC) method for G.722.2 speech codec is proposed in order to overcome this problem and increases the efficiency of this codec by improving the quality of decoded speech under burst frame loss conditions over frame-switched networks. Objective and subjective experimental results confirm that our proposed algorithm could achieve better speech quality. Our proposed method achieves a PESQ value higher than 2 at 20% frame erasure rate and ensure the compatibility between our modified decoder and the non-modified G.722.2 coder.

Performance of Source transmit Antenna selection for MIMO cooperative communication System Based DF protocol: Symbol Error Rate and Diversity order

In this work, we study the performance of a single relay Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) cooperative communication system based on Decode and Forward (DF) relaying protocol for two strategies using transmit antenna selection at the source. The first strategy uses one antenna between the relay and the destination, and the second strategy uses Space Time Block Coding (STBC). All channels follow the Rayleigh fading distribution. We derive the expression and Upper Bound for Symbol Error Rate (SER) for M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK), and the diversity order for both strategies. The analytical results show that the second strategy performs better than the first one for the same diversity order and the same Rate R.

PSO and CPSO Based Interference Alignment for K-User MIMO Interference Channel

This paper investigates how to use a metaheuristic based technique, namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), in carrying out of Interference Alignment (IA) for $K$-User MIMO Interference Channel (IC). Despite its increasing popularity, mainly in wireless communications, IA lacks of explicit and straightforward design procedures. Indeed, IA design results in complex optimization tasks involving a large amount of decision variables, together with a problem of convergence of the IA solutions. In this paper the IA optimization is performed using PSO and Cooperative PSO (CPSO) more suitable for large scale optimization, a comparison between the two versions is also carried out. This approach seems to be promising.

A Novel Mataheuristic based Interference Alignment for K-User Interference Channel : A Comparative Study

This paper presents a new Interference Alignment (IA) scheme for K-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Interference Channel (IC) based on two metaheuristics, namely Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) Algorithm. Tackling interference is an essential issue in wireless communications to which Interference Alignment (IA) provides a promising solution. However, IA still lacks of explicit and straightforward design procedures. In fact, most of IA procedures aim to minimize a certain Interference Leakage (IL) which measures the effect of the interference on the network, this results in complex optimization tasks involving a large amount of decision variables, together with a problem of convergence of the IA solutions. In this paper the IA optimization is performed using PSO, ABC and their cooperative counterparts, more suitable for large scale optimization. A comparison between the four algorithms is also carried out. The cooperative proposed approaches seem to be promising.

Quantum Secret Sharing with error correction

We investigate in this work a quantum error correction on a five-qubits graph state used for secret sharing through five noisy channels. We describe the procedure for the five, seven and nine qubits codes. It is known that the three codes always allow error recovery if only one among the sents qubits is disturbed in the transmitting channel. However, if two qubits and more are disturbed, then the correction will depend on the used code.

In this paper, we provise an implementation of five, seven and nine-qubits error correcting codes on a classical computer using the quantum simulator Feynman program. We also compare the three codes by computing the fidelity when double errors occurs in a depolarizing channel. As triple errors and more are considered very unlikely, it has negligible effect on the next results
