Implementing Hamiltonian Renormalization Group Flow on Quantum Computers with VAPOR

While Hamiltonian Lattice Gauge Theory is gaining traction, today's limited numerical capacity leaves simulations affected by discretization errors. This motivates the implementation of renormalization group (RG) techniques to find discretization-error-free operators. To this end, we introduce VAPOR, a variational quantum algorithm that decomposes operators into Pauli strings, identifies RG flow orbits, and determines fixed points of a naively discretized operator. We illustrate this using a toy model of a kinematic operator in a symmetry-restricted SU(2) Yang-Mills theory.

A rotating GUP black hole: metric, shadow, and bounds on quantum parameters

Recently, for the first time, a metric of a static spherically symmetric generalized uncertainty inspired quantum black hole was derived. We apply the modified Newman-Janis algorithm to this metric and derive its rotating counterpart. We show that this metric has all the correct limits, while due to Newman-Janis side effects, the singularity which was resolved in the static case, is introduced back into the model. However, the slowly-rotating limit of this black hole is singularity-free. Furthermore, we show that the presence of quantum parameters modifies the location of the horizons, temperature, and entropy of the black hole, and allows the existence of naked singularities even if the ratio of the spin parameter to mass of the black hole is less than unity. Finally, by computing the shadow parameters of this black hole and comparing them with data from the Event Horizon Telescope for both M87* and Sgr A*, we set bounds on one of the quantum parameters of the model, and show that there is a limit on the angular momentum of M87* if this model is valid.

Canonical Electrodynamics in Ashtekar-Barbero variables

We present the full Hamiltonian analysis of electrodynamics, including fermions, photons, and their interaction, on a general curved spacetime in Ashtekar-Barbero variables. Only the time gauge is imposed and the theory is background independent. The details of the constraints of the theory for fermionic and electromagnetic fields coupled to gravity are presented. Moreover, the equations of motion are derived and it is shown that they reduce to the Dirac equation, Maxwell equation and their interaction term in curved or flat spacetime in the appropriate limits. Finally, the behavior of the theory under parity transformation is analyzed. This result presents a suitable foundation for loop or polymer quantization.

A generalized uncertainty-inspired quantum black hole

We derive the full spacetime metric of a generalized uncertainty-inspired quantum black hole. We examine a previous model of the interior in this approach and show that extending its metric to the full spacetime leads to serious issues in the asymptotic region. To remedy this, we introduce an ``improved scheme'' mimicking a similar prescription used in loop quantum gravity, where the quantum parameters are made momentum-dependent. Under this scheme, we rework the interior of the black hole and extend it to the full spacetime. We find that the resulting metric is asymptotically flat and its associated Kretschmann scalar is regular everywhere. We also show that the null expansion and Raychaudhuri equation are regular everywhere in this spacetime, implying that the classical singularity is resolved.

The Reissner-Nordström-Tangherlini solution from scattering amplitudes of charged scalars

The metric and the electromagnetic potential generated by a static, spherically symmetric charged massive object in any dimension are given by the Reissner-Nordström-Tangherlini solution. We derive the expansion of this solution up to third post-Minkowskian order by computing the classical contribution of scattering amplitudes describing the emission of either a graviton or a photon from a massive charged scalar field up to two loops. In four and five dimensions these amplitudes develop ultraviolet divergences that are cancelled by higher-derivative counterterms in a way that generalises what was recently shown to happen in the chargeless case. This renormalisation procedure produces logarithmic terms that match exactly those produced in the post-Minkowskian expansion of the classical solution in de Donder gauge.
