Thermodynamics of magnetized BPS baryonic layers and the effects of the Isospin chemical potential

Through the Hamilton-Jacobi equation of classical mechanics, BPS magnetized Baryonic layers (possessing both baryonic charge and magnetic flux) have been constructed in the gauged non-linear sigma model (G-NLSM) minimally coupled to Maxwell theory, which is one of the most relevant effective theories for Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in the strongly interacting low-energy limit which also takes into account the electromagnetic interactions. Since the topological charge that naturally appears on the right hand side of the BPS bound is a non-linear function of the baryonic charge, the thermodynamics of these magnetized Baryonic layers is highly non-trivial. In this work, using tools from the theory of Casimir effect, we derive analytical relationship between baryonic charge, topological charge, magnetic flux and relevant thermodynamical quantities (such as pressure, specific heat and magnetic susceptibility) of these layers. The critical Baryonic chemical potential is identified. Quite interestingly, the grand canonical partition function can be related with the Riemann zeta function. On the technical side, it is quite a remarkable result to derive explicit expressions for all these thermodynamics quantities of a strongly interacting magnetized system at finite Baryon density. The effects of the Isospin chemical potential can be included as well: in particular, we will be able to construct explicitly the BPS bound and the corresponding BPS configurations also in the case in which the Isospin chemical potential is non-zero. The physical interpretations of our analytical results will be discussed.

Two-time physics, Carroll symmetry and Jordan algebras

We describe Carroll particles with nonzero energy (i.e., particles that remain at rest) within the framework of two-time (2T) physics developed by Bars and collaborators. In a spacetime with one additional time and one additional space dimension, one can gauge the phase-space symmetry that exchanges generalized coordinates with their conjugate momenta, thereby unifying the description of apparently different one-time systems. We develop both classical and quantum descriptions of the Carroll particle arising from 2T physics, and explore links between the extended phase space of 2T physics and Freudenthal triple systems constructed over a semisimple cubic Jordan algebra (the Lorentzian spin factor).

Two Times for Freudenthal

We investigate the algebraic structure of the two-time physics introduced some time ago by I. Bars and his co-authors, clarifying its relations with quadratic and cubic Jordan algebras, as well as with reduced Freudenthal triple systems (FTS) based on them. In particular, the `extended' phase space introduced by Bars can be endowed with the structure of a reduced FTS constructed over a semi-simple cubic Jordan algebra (named Lorentzian spin factor), characterized by a primitive, invariant symmetric tensor of rank $4$. The $Sp(2,\mathbb{R})$-gauge fixing procedure typical of two-time physics yields algebraic-differential constraints on the quartic polynomial associated to such a tensor, implying that only two (isomorphic) nilpotent orbits of the non-transitive action of the automorphism group of the Lorentzian spin factor are spanned by the conjugated variables which coordinatize the `extended' phase space. We illustrate our results in relativistic, manifestly Lorentz-covariant physical systems, as well as in non-relativistic systems (such as the non-relativistic massive particle, the hydrogen atom, and the Carroll particle with non-vanishing energy).

Pearcey integrals, Stokes lines and exact baryonic layers in the low energy limit of QCD

The first analytic solutions representing baryonic layers living at finite baryon density within a constant magnetic field in the gauged Skyrme model are constructed. A remarkable feature of these configurations is that, if the Skyrme term is neglected, then these baryonic layers in the constant magnetic background cannot be found analytically and their energies grow very fast with the magnetic field. On the other hand, if the Skyrme term is taken into account, the field equations can be solved analytically and the corresponding solutions have a smooth limit for large magnetic fields. Thus, the Skyrme term discloses the universal character of these configurations living at finite Baryon density in a constant magnetic field. The classical gran-canonical partition function of these configurations can be expressed explicitly in terms of the Pearcey integral. This fact allows us to determine analytically the Stokes lines of the partition function and the corresponding dependence on the baryonic chemical potential as well as on the external magnetic field. In this way, we can determine various critical curves in the ($μ_B-B_{ext}$) plane which separates different physical behaviors. These families of inhomogeneous baryonic condensates can be also dressed with chiral conformal excitations of the solutions representing modulations of the layers themselves. Some physical consequences are analyzed.

Looking for Carroll particles in two time spacetime

We make an attempt to describe Carroll particles with a non-vanishing value of energy (i.e. the Carroll particles which always stay in rest) in the framework of two time physics, developed in the series of papers by I. Bars and his co-authors. In the spacetime with one additional time dimension and one additional space dimension one can localize the symmetry which exists between generalized coordinate and their conjugate momenta. Such a localization implies the introduction of the gauge fields, which in turn implies the appearance of some first-class constraints. Choosing different gauge-fixing conditions and solving the constraints one obtain different time parameters, Hamiltonians, and generally, physical systems in the standard one time spacetime. In this way such systems as non-relativistic particle, relativistic particles, hydrogen atoms and harmonic oscillators were described as dual systems in the framework of the two time physics. Here, we find a set of gauge fixing conditions which provides as with such a parametrization of the phase space variables in the two time world which gives the description of Carroll particle in the one time world. Besides, we construct the quantum theory of such a particle using an unexpected correspondence between our parametrization and that obtained by Bars for the hydrogen atom in 1999.

Analytic multi-Baryonic solutions in the SU(N)-Skyrme model at finite density

We construct explicit analytic solutions of the $SU(N)$-Skyrme model (for generic $N$) suitable to describe different phases of nuclear pasta at finite volume in $(3+1)$ dimensions. The first type are crystals of Baryonic tubes (nuclear spaghetti) while the second type are smooth Baryonic layers (nuclear lasagna). Both, the ansatz for the spaghetti and the ansatz for the lasagna phases, reduce the complete set of Skyrme field equations to just one integrable equation for the profile within sectors of arbitrary high topological charge. We compute explicitly the total energy of both configurations in terms of the flavor number, the density and the Baryonic charge. Remarkably, our analytic results allow to compare explicitly the physical properties of nuclear spaghetti and lasagna phases. Our construction shows explicitly that, at lower densities, configurations with $N=2$ light flavors are favored while, at higher densities, configurations with $N=3$ are favored. Our construction also proves that in the high density regime (but still well within the range of validity of the Skyrme model) the lasagna configurations are favored while at low density the spaghetti configurations are favored. Moreover, the integrability property of the present configurations is not spoiled by the inclusion of the subleading corrections to the Skyrme model arising in the 't Hooft expansion. Finally, we briefly discuss the large $N$ limit of our configurations.
