Ultra-Long-Range Bessel Beams via Leaky Waves with Mitigated Open Stopband

Open stop-band (OSB) mitigation techniques are commonly used to improve the far-field radiating properties of leakywave antennas based on periodic structures. Recently, leaky waves have been proposed to focus energy in the near field through Bessel beams. However, the focusing character of Bessel beams is notably limited to a maximum distance known as the nondiffractive range. In this work, an OSB mitigation technique is originally exploited to significantly extend the nondiffractive range of a Bessel beam generated by a leaky-wave launcher in the microwave/millimeter-wave range. A comprehensive analysis of this device is presented, comparing the performance of the proposed launcher with the typical structure of a leaky-wave Bessel-beam launcher where the OSB is not suppressed. Theoretical results corroborated by full-wave simulations demonstrate that the proposed device, designed around 30 GHz, achieves an impressive nondiffractive range of approximately 25 m, which corresponds to 2500 vacuum wavelengths and to 50 times its aperture diameter of 50 cm. These results look particularly attractive for, e.g., near-field communications and wireless power transfer applications, where focusing energy in narrow spots and over large distances is a key factor.

Blowing up Chern-Ricci flat balanced metrics

Given a compact Chern-Ricci flat balanced orbifold, we show that its blow-up at a finite family of smooth points admits constant Chern scalar curvature balanced metrics, extending Arezzo-Pacard's construction to the balanced setting. Moreover, if the orbifold has isolated singularities and admits crepant resolutions, we show that they always carry Chern-Ricci flat balanced metrics, without any further hypothesis. In addition, we discuss the general constant Chern scalar curvature balanced case and discuss another version of the main Theorem assuming the existence of a special (n-2, n-2)-form. We also present several classes of examples in which our results can be applied.

A Kümmer construction for Chern-Ricci flat balanced manifolds

Given a non-Kähler Calabi-Yau orbifold with a finite family of isolated singularities endowed with a Chern-Ricci flat balanced metric, we show, via a gluing construction, that all its crepant resolutions admit Chern-Ricci flat balanced metrics, and discuss applications to the search of solutions for the Hull-Strominger system. We also describe the scenario of singular threefolds with ordinary double points, and see that similarly is possible to obtain balanced approximately Chern-Ricci flat metrics.

Real semisimple Lie groups and balanced metrics

Given any non-compact real simple Lie group G of inner type and even dimension, we prove the existence of an invariant complex structure J and a Hermitian balanced metric with vanishing Chern scalar curvature on G and on any compact quotient $M=G/Γ$, with $Γ$ a cocompact lattice. We also prove that (M,J) does not carry any pluriclosed metric, in contrast to the case of even dimensional compact Lie groups, which admit pluriclosed but not balanced metrics.
