Integrability and the spectrum of two-dimensional fishnet CFT

We formulate a closed set of equations for the spectrum of two-dimensional bi-scalar fishnet conformal field theory, comprising Baxter equations and quantisation conditions, which we derive operatorially from the underlying sl(2) spin chain. These equations are reminiscent of the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) framework found in other holographic CFTs and are expected to provide a complete non-perturbative description of the spectrum at arbitrary coupling. We solve the QSC numerically at finite coupling and uncover a rich analytic structure, including state collisions and complex energy levels. Analytically, we introduce a new method to derive the Asymptotic Bethe Ansatz equations, which control the spectrum up to wrapping order and incorporate spinning states. We further extend our results to the twisted case, which may be particularly useful for future separation of variables analyses of correlation functions in this theory.

Integrability for the spectrum of Jordanian AdS/CFT

Jordanian deformations offer rare integrable realisations of non-AdS holography, whose solvability methods differ from conventional AdS/CFT examples. Here we study the $\mathfrak{sl}(2,R)$ sector of the Jordanian deformed $AdS_5\times S^5$ string and its weak-coupling spin chain counterpart: the $\mathrm{XXX}_{-1/2}$ model with a non-abelian Jordanian Drinfel'd twist. While the twist breaks the usual highest-weight structure that underlies conventional Bethe ansätze, we show that the complete spectrum remains solvable within the Baxter framework. We argue that the functional form of the $TQ$-relation is unchanged, yet the structure of the $Q$-functions is nontrivially modified. This allows us to obtain analytic expressions at arbitrary spin chain length $J$, which match the deformed string spectrum at the one-loop level and to subleading order in the large-$J$ expansion, despite the severely reduced symmetry. Our results provide nontrivial tests of the Jordanian AdS/CFT correspondence and lay the groundwork for implementing the Separation of Variables program in non-abelian Drinfel'd-twisted models.

Integrable Feynman Graphs and Yangian Symmetry on the Loom

We present significant evidence that the powerful property of Yangian invariance extends to a new large class of conformally invariant Feynman integrals. Our results apply to planar Feynman diagrams in any spacetime dimension dual to an arbitrary network of intersecting straight lines on a plane (Baxter lattice), with propagator powers determined by the geometry. We formulate Yangian symmetry in terms of a chain of Lax operators acting on the fixed coordinates around the graph, and we also extend this construction to the case of infinite-dimensional auxiliary space. Yangian invariance leads to new differential and integral equations for individual, highly nontrivial, Feynman graphs, and we present them explicitly for several examples. The graphs we consider determine correlators in the recently proposed loom fishnet CFTs. We also describe a generalization to the case with interaction vertices inside open faces of the diagram. Our construction unifies and greatly extends the known special cases of Yangian invariance to likely the most general family of integrable scalar planar graphs.

Separation of variables for higher rank integrable models: review of recent progress

Separation of variables (SoV) is a powerful method expected to be applicable for a wide range of quantum integrable systems, from models in condensed matter physics to gauge and string theories. Yet its full implementation for many higher rank examples, such as SU(N) spin chains with N>2, has remained elusive for a long time. In this pedagogical review we discuss the major progress achieved recently in understanding SoV for models of this type. In particular, for rational SU(N) spin chains we describe different constructions of the SoV basis, novel compact forms for spin chain eigenstates, the functional SoV approach, and explicit computation of the SoV measure. We also discuss key first applications of these results, namely the new compact determinant representations for many observables such as scalar products and correlators.

Bethe ansatz inside Calogero-Sutherland models

We study the trigonometric quantum spin-Calogero-Sutherland model, and the Haldane-Shastry spin chain as a special case, using a Bethe-ansatz analysis. We harness the model's Yangian symmetry to import the standard tools of integrability for Heisenberg spin chains into the world of integrable long-range models with spins. From the transfer matrix with a diagonal twist we construct Heisenberg-style symmetries (Bethe algebra) that refine the usual hierarchy of commuting Hamiltonians (quantum determinant) of the spin-Calogero-Sutherland model. We compute the first few of these new conserved charges explicitly, and diagonalise them by Bethe ansatz inside each irreducible Yangian representation. This yields a new eigenbasis for the spin-Calogero-Sutherland model that generalises the Yangian Gelfand-Tsetlin basis of Takemura-Uglov. The Bethe-ansatz analysis involves non-generic values of the inhomogeneities. Our review of the inhomogeneous Heisenberg XXX chain, with special attention to how the Bethe ansatz works in the presence of fusion, may be of independent interest.

Yangian symmetry, GKZ equations and integrable Feynman graphs in conformal variables

We study the differential equations that follow from Yangian symmetry which was recently observed for a large class of conformal Feynman graphs, originating from integrable `fishnet' theories. We derive, for the first time, the explicit general form of these equations in the most useful conformal cross-ratio variables, valid for any spacetime dimension. This allows us to explore their properties in detail. In particular, we observe that for general Feynman graphs a large set of terms in the Yangian equations can be identified with famous GKZ (Gelfand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky) hypergeometric operators. We also show that for certain nontrivial graphs the relation with GKZ systems is exact, opening the way to using new powerful solution methods. As a side result, we also elucidate the constraints on the topology and parameter space of Feynman graphs stemming from Yangian invariance.

A Flow in the Forest

Using the matrix-forest theorem and the Parisi-Sourlas trick we formulate and solve a one-matrix model with non-polynomial potential which provides perturbation theory for massive spinless fermions on dynamical planar graphs. This is a lattice version of 2d quantum gravity coupled to massive spinless fermions. Our model equivalently describes the ensemble of spanning forests on the same graphs. The solution is formulated in terms of an elliptic curve. We then focus on a near-critical scaling limit when both the graphs and the trees in the forests are macroscopically large. In this limit we obtain universal one-point scaling functions (condensates), parameterized in terms of the Lambert function. Our results provide a rare example where one can explore the flow between two gravity models -- in this case, the theories of conformal matter coupled to 2d gravity with c=-2 (large trees regime) and c=0 (small trees regime). We also compute the disc partition functions with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions in the same critical limit.

Disc partition function of 2d $R^2$ gravity from DWG matrix model

We compute the sum over flat surfaces of disc topology with arbitrary number of conical singularities. To that end, we explore and generalize a specific case of the matrix model of dually weighted graphs (DWG) proposed and solved by one of the authors, M. Staudacher and Th. Wynter. Namely, we compute the sum over quadrangulations of the disc with certain boundary conditions, with parameters controlling the number of squares (area), the length of the boundary and the coordination numbers of vertices. The vertices introduce conical defects with angle deficit given by a multiple of $π$, corresponding to positive, zero or negative curvature. Our results interpolate between the well-known 2d quantum gravity solution for the disc with fluctuating 2d metric and the regime of 'almost flat' surfaces with all the negative curvature concentrated on the boundary. We also speculate on possible ways to study the fluctuating 2d geometry with $AdS_2$ background instead of the flat one.

Separation of Variables in AdS/CFT: Functional Approach for the Fishnet CFT

The major simplification in a number of quantum integrable systems is the existence of special coordinates in which the eigenstates take a factorised form. Despite many years of studies, the basis realising the separation of variables (SoV) remains unknown in N=4 SYM and similar models, even though it is widely believed they are integrable. In this paper we initiate the SoV approach for observables with nontrivial coupling dependence in a close cousin of N=4 SYM - the fishnet 4D CFT. We develop the functional SoV formalism in this theory, which allows us to compute non-perturbatively some nontrivial observables in a form suitable for numerical evaluation. We present some applications of these methods. In particular, we discuss the possible SoV structure of the one-point correlators in presence of a defect, and write down a SoV-type expression for diagonal OPE coefficients involving an arbitrary state and the Lagrangian density operator. We believe that many of the findings of this paper can be applied in the N=4 SYM case, as we speculate in the last part of the article.

Determinant Form of Correlators in High Rank Integrable Spin Chains via Separation of Variables

In this paper we take further steps towards developing the separation of variables program for integrable spin chains with gl(N) symmetry. By finding, for the first time, the matrix elements of the SoV measure explicitly we were able to compute correlation functions and wave function overlaps in a simple determinant form. In particular, we show how an overlap between on-shell and off-shell algebraic Bethe states can be written as a determinant. Another result, particularly useful for AdS/CFT applications, is an overlap between two Bethe states with different twists, which also takes a determinant form in our approach. Our results also extend our previous works in collaboration with A. Cavaglia and D. Volin to general values of the spin, including the SoV construction in the higher-rank non-compact case for the first time.

Dual Separated Variables and Scalar Products

Separation of variables (SoV) is an extremely efficient and elegant technique for analysing physical systems but its application to integrable spin chains was limited until recently to the simplest su(2) cases. In this paper we continue developing the SoV program for higher-rank spin chains and demonstrate how to derive the measure for the su(3) case. Our results are a natural consequence of factorisability of the wave function and functional orthogonality relations following from the interplay between Baxter equations for Q-functions and their dual.

Exploring the ground state spectrum of gamma-deformed N=4 SYM

We study the gamma-deformation of the planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory which breaks all supersymmetries but is expected to preserve integrability of the model. We focus on the operator Tr$(ϕ_1ϕ_1)$ built from two scalars, whose integrability description has been questioned before due to contributions from double-trace counterterms. We show that despite these subtle effects, the integrability-based Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) framework works perfectly for this state and in particular reproduces the known 1-loop prediction. This resolves an earlier controversy concerning this operator and provides further evidence that the gamma-deformed model is an integrable CFT at least in the planar limit. We use the QSC to compute the first 5 weak coupling orders of the anomalous dimension analytically, matching known results in the fishnet limit, and also compute it numerically all the way from weak to strong coupling. We also utilize this data to extract a new coefficient of the beta function of the double-trace operator couplings.

A review of the AdS/CFT Quantum Spectral Curve

We give an introduction to the Quantum Spectral Curve in AdS/CFT. This is an integrability-based framework which provides the exact spectrum of planar N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory (and of the dual string model) in terms of a solution of a Riemann-Hilbert problem for a finite set of functions. We review the underlying QQ relations starting from simple spin chain examples, and describe the special features arising for AdS/CFT. We also discuss the recently found links between the Quantum Spectral Curve and the computation of correlation functions. To appear in a special issue of J Phys A based on lectures given at the Young Researchers Integrability School and Workshop 2018.

Roadmap on Wilson loops in 3d Chern-Simons-matter theories

This is a compact review of recent results on supersymmetric Wilson loops in ABJ(M) and related theories. It aims to be a quick introduction to the state of the art in the field and a discussion of open problems. It is divided into short chapters devoted to different questions and techniques. Some new results, perspectives and speculations are also presented. We hope this might serve as a baseline for further studies of this topic.

New Construction of Eigenstates and Separation of Variables for SU(N) Quantum Spin Chains

We conjecture a new way to construct eigenstates of integrable XXX quantum spin chains with SU(N) symmetry. The states are built by repeatedly acting on the vacuum with a single operator Bgood(u) evaluated at the Bethe roots. Our proposal serves as a compact alternative to the usual nested algebraic Bethe ansatz. Furthermore, the roots of this operator give the separated variables of the model, explicitly generalizing Sklyanin's approach to the SU(N) case. We present many tests of the conjecture and prove it in several special cases. We focus on rational spin chains with fundamental representation at each site, but expect many of the results to be valid more generally.

Separation of variables and scalar products at any rank

Separation of variables (SoV) is a special property of integrable models which ensures that the wavefunction has a very simple factorised form in a specially designed basis. Even though the factorisation of the wavefunction was recently established for higher rank models by two of the authors and G. Sizov, the measure for the scalar product was not known beyond the case of rank one symmetry. In this paper we show how this measure can be found, bypassing an explicit SoV construction. A key new observation is that the measure for spin chains in a highest-weight infinite dimensional representation of sl(N) couples Q-functions at different nesting levels in a non-symmetric fashion. We also managed to express a large number of form factors as ratios of determinants in our new approach. We expect our method to be applicable in a much wider setup including the problem of computing correlators in integrable CFTs such as the fishnet theory, N=4 SYM and the ABJM model.

Integrability in dipole-deformed N=4 super Yang-Mills

We study the null dipole deformation of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, which is an example of a potentially solvable "dipole CFT": a theory that is non-local along a null direction, has non-relativistic conformal invariance along the remaining ones, and is holographically dual to a Schrodinger space-time. We initiate the field-theoretical study of the spectrum in this model by using integrability inherited from the parent theory. The dipole deformation corresponds to a nondiagonal Drinfeld-Reshetikhin twist in the spin chain picture, which renders the traditional Bethe ansatz inapplicable from the very beginning. We use instead the Baxter equation supplemented with nontrivial asymptotics, which gives the full 1-loop spectrum in the sl(2) sector. We show that anomalous dimensions of long gauge theory operators perfectly match the string theory prediction, providing a quantitative test of Schrodinger holography.

New Compact Construction of Eigenstates for Supersymmetric Spin Chains

The problem of separation of variables (SoV) in supersymmetric spin chains is closely related to the calculation of correlation functions in N=4 SYM theory which is integrable in the planar limit. To address this question we find a compact formula for the spin chain eigenstates, which does not have any sums over auxiliary roots one usually gets in the widely adopted nested Bethe ansatz. Our construction only involves one application of a simple Bg(u_k) operator to the reference state for each of the magnons, in complete analogy with the su(2) algebraic Bethe ansatz. This generalizes our SoV based construction for su(n) to the supersymmetric su(1|2) case.
