Novel Parameter Estimation Strategies for Time-Varying Systems via Real-Time Non-Linear Receding Horizon Control in Chaotic Environments

In this paper, based on real-time nonlinear receding horizon control methodology, a novel approach is developed for parameter estimation of time invariant and time varying nonlinear dynamical systems in chaotic environments. Here, the parameter estimation problem is converted into a family of finite horizon optimization control problems. The corresponding receding horizon control problem is then solved numerically, in real-time, without recourse to any iterative approximation methods by introducing the stabilized continuation method and backward sweep algorithm. The significance of this work lies in its real-time nature and its powerful results on nonlinear chaotic systems with time varying parameters. The effective nature of the proposed method is demonstrated on two chaotic systems, with time invariant and time varying parameters. At the end, robustness performance of the proposed algorithm against bounded noise is investigated.

${B^0} - {{\bar B}^0}$ mixing in supersymmetry with gauged baryon and lepton numbers

We perform an analysis on ${B^0} - {{\bar B}^0}$ mixing in the extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries (BLMSSM) by using the effective Hamiltonian method. And the constraint of a 125 GeV Higgs to the parameter space has also been consid-ered. The numerical results indicate that the contributions of the extra particles can be sizeable in ${B^0} - {{\bar B}^0}$ mixing. For certain parameter sets, the theoretical prediction of mass differences $Δm_{B}$ agrees with the current experimental result. Furthermore, ${B^0} - {{\bar B}^0}$ mixing in the BLMSSM can preliminarily constrain the parameter space. With the development of more precise theoretical analysis and experimental determina-tions, the ${B^0} - {{\bar B}^0}$ mixing in the BLMSSM will have a clearer picture and the parameter space in this model will also be further constrained.

Top quark decay to a 125GeV Higgs in BLMSSM

In this paper, we calculate the top quark rare decay t-ch in a supersymmetric extension of the standard model where baryon and lepton numbers are local gauge symmetries. Adopting reasonable assumptions on the parameter space, we find that the branching ratios of t-ch can reach 10^-3, which can be detected in near future.

Lepton flavor violation in the $μν$SSM with slepton flavor mixing

The $μν$SSM, one of supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, introduces three right-handed neutrino superfields to solve the $μ$ problem and violates lepton number. Within framwork of the $μν$SSM, we investigate the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes $Z\rightarrow l_i^\pm l_j^\mp$ with slepton flavor mixing. Simultaneously, we consider the LFV processes $l_j^-\rightarrow l_i^-γ$, $l_j^- \rightarrow l_i^- l_i^- l_i^+$ and muon conversion to electron in nuclei.

125 GeV Higgs boson decays in the $μ$ from $ν$ supersymmetric standard model

Recently the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations have reported significant events that are attributed to the neutral Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV. In this work, we investigate the signals of the Higgs boson decay channels $h\rightarrowγγ$, $h\rightarrow VV^*$ ($V=Z,W$), and $h\rightarrow f\bar{f}$ ($f=b,τ$) in the $μ$ from $ν$ supersymmetric standard model ($μν$SSM). In the numerical results, we show the light stop and stau effects on the signal strengths for the 125 GeV Higgs boson decay channels in the $μν$SSM, which can account for the updated experimental data on Higgs.

Lepton flavor violation decays of vector mesons in unparticle physics

We investigate the lepton flavor violation decays of vector mesons in the scenario of the unparticle physics by considering the constraint from $μ-e$ conversion. In unparticle physics, the predictions of LFV decays of vector mesons depend strongly on the scale dimension $d_{\mathcal{U}}$. The predictions of LFV decays of vector mesons can reach the detective sensitivity in experiment in region of $3\le d_{\mathcal{U}}\le 4$, while the prediction of $μ-e$ conversion rate can meet the experimental upper limit. For the searching of the lepton flavor violation processes of charged lepton sector in experiment, the process $Υ\rightarrow eμ$ may be a promising one to be observed.

Experimentally demonstrated an unidirectional electromagnetic cloak designed by topology optimization

Electromagnetic invisible devices usually designed by transformation optics are rather complicated in material parameters and not suitable for general applications. Recently a topology optimized cloak based on level-set method was proposed to realize nearly perfect cloaking by Fujii et al [Appl. Phys. Lett. 102, 251106 (2013)]. In this work we experimentally implemented this idea and fabricated a unidirectional cloak with a relative large invisible region made of single dielectric material. Good cloaking performance was verified through measurement which consists very well with numerical simulation. The advantages and disadvantages of this optimization method are also discussed.

A transient thermal cloak experimentally realized through a rescaled diffusion equation with anisotropic thermal diffusivity

Transformation optics originating from the invariance of Maxwell's equations under the coordinate mapping has enabled the design and demonstration of many fascinating electromagnetic devices that were unconceivable or deemed impossible before [1-11], and has greatly contributed to the advancement of modern electromagnetism and related researches assisted with the development of metamaterials [12-15]. This technique has been extended to apply to other partial differential equations governing different waves [16-23] or flux [24-28], and has produced various novel functional devices such as acoustic cloaks [20-23] and Schrodinger's 'hat' [19]. In the present work we applied the coordinate transformation to the time-dependent heat diffusion equation [24-28] and achieved the manipulation of the heat flux by predefined diffusion paths. In the experiment we demonstrated a transient thermal cloaking device engineered with thermal metamaterials and successfully hid a centimeter sized strong 'scatter' (thermal disturber), i.e., a vacuum cavity. To facilitate reliable fabrication we adopted the rescaled thermal diffusion equation for various ingredient materials with nearly constant product of the density and heat capacity, and took the anisotropic thermal diffusivities as the key parameters for the design. Our results unambiguously show the practical possibility to implement the complex transformed thermal media with high accuracy and acquire some unprecedented thermodynamic functions, which we believe will help to broaden the current research and pave a new way to manipulate heat for novel device applications.

Comment on 'Perfect drain for the Maxwell fish eye lens'

The non-magnetic loss material has been proposed (2011 New J. Phys. 13 023038) to mimic a passive perfect drain in the Maxwell's fish eye lens (MFL). In this comment, we argue that this passive medium can only be treated as a perfect absorber which can totally absorb all incident radiation without scattering by it, but it cannot mimic a perfect focusing point. As a result, this passive medium cannot help to achieve a perfect focusing in MFL.

Can Maxwell's Fish Eye Lens Really Give Perfect Imaging? Part II. The case with drains

We use both FEM (finite element method) and FDTD (finite difference time domain method) to simulate the field distribution in Maxwell's fish eye lens with one or more passive drains around the image point. We use the same Maxwell's fish eye lens structure as the one used in recent microwave experiment [arXiv:1007.2530]: Maxwell's fish eye lens bounded by PEC (perfect electric conductor) is inserted between two parallel PEC plates (as a waveguide structure). Our simulation results indicate that if one uses an active coaxial cable as the object and set an array of passive drains around the image region, what one obtains is not an image of the object but only multiple spots resembling the array of passive drains. The resolution of Maxwell's fish eye is finite even with such passive drains at the image locations. We also found that the subwavelength spot around the passive drain is due to the local field enhancement of the metal tip of the drain rather than the fish eye medium or the ability of the drain in extracting waves.

Can Maxwell's fish eye lens really give perfect imaging?

Both explicit analysis and FEM numerical simulation are used to analyze the field distribution of a line current in the so-called Maxwell's fish eye lens [bounded with a perfectly electrical conductor (PEC) boundary]. We show that such a 2D Maxwell's fish eye lens cannot give perfect imaging due to the fact that high order modes of the object field can hardly reach the image point in Maxwell's fish eye lens. If only zeroth order mode is excited, a good image of a sharp object may be achieved in some cases, however, its spot-size is larger than the spot size of the initial object field. The image resolution is determined by the field spot size of the image corresponding to the zeroth order component of the object field. Our explicit analysis consists very well with the FEM results for a fish eye lens. Time-domain simulation is also given to verify our conclusion. Multi-point images for a single object point are also demonstrated.

On subwavelength imaging of Maxwell's fish eye lens

Both explicit analysis and FEM numerical simulation are used to analyze the field distribution of a line current in the so-called Maxwell's fish eye lens, which has been claimed recently to be able to achieve perfect imaging. We show that such a Maxwell's fish eye lens cannot give perfect imaging due to the fact that high order modes of the object field can hardly reach the image point in the Maxwell's fish eye. If only zero order mode is excited, a subwavelength image can be achieved, however, its spot-size is larger than the spot size of the source field. The image resolution is determined by the field spot size of the image corresponding to the zeroth order component of the object field. Our explicit analysis consists very well with the FEM results for a modified fish eye bounded with perfectly electrical conductor (PEC). Explicit condition is given for achieving a subwavelength image. When this condition is not satisfied, a single line current source may give multiple image spots.

On the Quantum Theory of Massless Spin-3/2 Field in Minkowski Spacetime

From the modern viewpoint and by the geometric method, this paper provides a concise foundation for the quantum theory of massless spin-3/2 field in Minkowski spacetime, which includes both the one-particle's quantum mechanics and the many-particle's quantum field theory. The explicit result presented here is useful for the investigation of spin-3/2 field in various circumstances such as supergravity, twistor programme, Casimir effect, and quantum inequality.
