Controlling the dynamics of open quantum systems with periodic driving field

In this paper, we study the exact dynamics of open quantum systems to the case with periodic driving field. It is shown that different from the static adjustment of the system on-site energy that can either generate or destroy the dissipationless localized bound states, the periodic driving can either preserve the existed localized bound states or destroy some of them but cannot generate new localized bound states. With the picture of energy transfer involved with the driving field, we find the condition for the survival of the localized bound states when the driving amplitude is weak. For the strong driving case, the condition breaks down because of the strong energy renormalization to the originally existed localized bound states. These properties of decoherence dynamics may help in controlling the quantum state against decoherence for the sake of its sensitivity to the fundamental frequency of the driving field.

Generating Majorana qubit coherence in Majorana Aharonov-Bohm interferometer

We propose an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer consisted of two topological superconducting chains (TSCs) to generate coherence of Majorana qubits, each qubit is made of two Majorana zero modes (MZMs) with the definite fermion parity. We obtain the generalized exact master equation as well as its solution and study the real-time dynamics of the MZM qubit states under various operations. We demonstrate that by tuning the magnetic flux, the decoherence rates can be modified significantly, and dissipationless MZMs can be generated. By applying the bias voltage to the leads, one can manipulate MZM qubit coherence and generate a nearly pure superposition state of Majorana qubit. Moreover, parity flipping between MZM qubits with different fermion parities can be realized by controlling the coupling between the leads and the TSCs through gate voltages.

Exact dynamics and thermalization of open quantum systems coupled to reservoir through particle exchanges

In this paper, we study the exact dynamics of general open systems interacting with its environment through particle exchanges. The paper includes two main results. First, by taking advantage of the propagating function in the coherent state representation, we solve the exact master equation, whose solution is expressed in terms of the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green functions. Second, in the dynamical perspective, we provide a rigorous thermalization process of open quantum systems.

Divisibility hierarchy of open quantum systems

In the theory of open quantum systems, divisibility of the system dynamical maps is related to memory effects in the dynamics. By decomposing the system Hilbert space as a direct sum of several Hilbert spaces, we study the relationship among the corresponding dynamical maps. It is shown that if the dynamical maps of the open system possess a chain of invariant subspaces, there exists a divisibility hierarchy for their corresponding dynamics. Two classes of examples are given for illustrating these hierarchical structures. One is the pure-dephasing dynamics, and the other is the decay dynamics. Our results offer a systematic approach to obtaining the divisibility conditions and non-Markovian witnesses for these dynamics. Moreover, as a new way of decomposing open quantum systems, it is worthy of further study.

Boson-boson pure-dephasing model with non-Markovian properties

Understanding decoherence processes is crucial in the study of open quantum systems. In this paper, we discuss the mechanism of pure-dephasing process with a newly proposed boson-boson model, namely, a bosonic field coupled to another bosonic bath in thermal equilibrium. Our model is fully solvable and can reproduce the pure-dephasing process which is usually described by the well-known spin-boson model, therefore offering a new perspective to understanding decoherence processes in open quantum systems of high dimension. We also show that this model admits a generically non-Markovian dynamics with respect to various different non-Markovian measures.

Theory-Independent Measure of Coherence

We provide a theory independent framework to quantify coherence. In comparison with Bell's theory independent approach to quantum nonlocality, we characterize a general coherence phenomenon with statistics arising from sequential measurements of observables that might not be compatible. By introducing a "decohered" state after the sharp measurement of some preferred observable, we quantify coherence by either the difference of initial "superposed" state from the "decohered" state or the measurement outcome deviations when they subjected to further measurements. Applied to quantum mechanics, the outcome-difference measures yield two novel quantum coherence measures, one of which upper-bounds quantum interference visibility. In the Bell's scenario, we find a finite gap of coherences between a super non-local model and quantum mechanic and therefore our framework can help to single out quantum mechanics beyond non-locality.

Qudit hypergraph states and their properties

Hypergraph states, a generalization of graph states, constitute a large class of quantum states with intriguing non-local properties and have promising applications in quantum information science and technology. In this paper, we generalize hypergraph states to qudit hypergraph states, i.e., each vertex in the generalized hypergraph (multi-hypergraph) represents a $d$-level quantum system instead of a qubit. It is shown that multi-hypergraphs and $d$-level hypergraph states have a one-to-one correspondence. We prove that if one part of a multi-hypergraph is connected with the other part, the corresponding subsystems are entangled. More generally, the structure of a multi-hypergraph reveals the entanglement property of the corresponding quantum state. Furthermore, we discuss their relationship with some well-known state classes, e.g., real equally weighted states and stabilizer states. These states' responses to the generalized $Z$ ($X$) operations and $Z$ ($X$) measurements are studied. The Bell non-locality, an important resource in fulfilling many quantum information tasks, is also investigated.
