SLM, LLM or Agentic AI? Toward Intelligent UAV-Enabled WPT Systems in Low-Altitude Economy Networks

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become key enabling platforms for low-altitude economic networks, yet achieving efficient and adaptive optimization under resource-constrained and dynamic environments remains challenging. This paper investigates language models for UAV-enabled Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems. First, a lightweight Small Language Model (SLM)-based solution is developed using a pre-trained BERT backbone, enhanced UAV embeddings and contextual features, a geometry-aware path decoder, and ensemble inference to achieve low complexity, low latency, and high energy efficiency. Second, an Agentic AI-based framework is designed to exploit the reasoning and interactive capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs). It integrates four collaborative agents-Initializer, Actor, Critic, and Reflector-to form a closed loop of generation, optimization, evaluation, and reflection for iterative UAV path and energy optimization. Finally, simulations compare the SLM-, LLM-, and Agentic AI-based approaches.

Explainable Task-Oriented Token Communication for AI-Native 6G Networks

The integration of Foundation Models (FMs) and wireless communications is driving the evolution of image communication from bit-accurate transmission toward task-oriented transmission. However, existing task-oriented image communication methods still face three major challenges: insufficient task-oriented Token representation, inadequate collaboration between Visual Tokens and Task Tokens, and limited interpretability of task decisions. To address these challenges, we propose an Explainable Task-Oriented Token Communication (ET-TokenCom) framework. By treating Tokens as unified units for information representation and transmission, the proposed framework constructs an end-to-end communication link that spans visual perception, wireless transmission, and task reasoning. At the transmitter, the ET-TokenCom framework extracts Visual Tokens from images to preserve low-level visual information. Meanwhile, Task Tokens generated by the FM are introduced to represent the target information and decision intent required by the current task. A Cross-Modal Attention (CMA) fusion mechanism is further designed, enabling Task Tokens to explicitly guide the selection, weighting, and transmission of Visual Tokens. At the receiver, the framework integrates Token decoding with an explainable output mechanism, where attention heatmaps are generated to highlight critical perceptual regions under different task objectives and reveal the influence of Task Tokens on the outputs. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed ET-TokenCom framework.

Vision-Language-Action Models Meet World Models: Embodied Agentic AI for Low-Altitude Wireless Networks

Low-Altitude Wireless Networks (LAWNs), composed of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and other aerial platforms, provide integrated perception, communication, and computation services in low-altitude airspace. However, deploying large generative models in this domain faces three major challenges: 1) Limited embodied action mapping; 2) Inadequate physical environment modeling; 3) Insufficient closed-loop optimization. To address these challenges, this study proposes an Embodied Agentic UAV framework. Centered on a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model as the execution core, the framework establishes an end-to-end embodied decision-making pipeline from multimodal environmental perception to continuous control generation. In addition, a World Model (WM) is introduced to capture the coupling between UAV actions and environmental state evolution, thereby supporting environment prediction, policy verification, and dynamic optimization. Furthermore, memory and reflection mechanisms are incorporated to form an adaptive closed-loop optimization paradigm of decision, execution, evaluation, and update, thereby enhancing the system's autonomous decision-making capability and continual evolution ability in complex dynamic environments. Experimental results validate its effectiveness in enabling robust, predictive, and sustainable autonomous control in LAWNs.

Aerial Agentic AI: Synergizing LLM and SLM for Low-Altitude Wireless Networks

Low-Altitude Wireless Networks (LAWNs), composed of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and mobile terminals, are emerging as a critical extension of 6G. However, applying Large Language Models in LAWNs faces three major challenges: 1) Computational and energy constraints; 2) Communication and bandwidth limitations; 3) Real-time and reliability conflicts. To address these challenges, we propose Aerial Agentic AI, a hierarchical framework integrating UAV-side fast-thinking Small Language Model (SLMs) with BS-side slow-thinking Large Language Model (LLMs). First, we design SLM-based Agents capable of on-board perception, short-term memory enhancement, and real-time decision-making on the UAVs. Second, we implement a LLM-based Agent system that leverages long-term memory, global knowledge, and tool orchestration at the Base Station (BS) to perform deep reasoning, knowledge updates, and strategy optimization. Third, we establish an efficient hierarchical coordination mechanism, enabling UAVs to execute high-frequency tasks locally while synchronizing with the BS only when necessary. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed Aerial Agentic AI.

TokenCom: Vision-Language Model for Multimodal and Multitask Token Communications

Visual-Language Models (VLMs), with their strong capabilities in image and text understanding, offer a solid foundation for intelligent communications. However, their effectiveness is constrained by limited token granularity, overlong visual token sequences, and inadequate cross-modal alignment. To overcome these challenges, we propose TaiChi, a novel VLM framework designed for token communications. TaiChi adopts a dual-visual tokenizer architecture that processes both high- and low-resolution images to collaboratively capture pixel-level details and global conceptual features. A Bilateral Attention Network (BAN) is introduced to intelligently fuse multi-scale visual tokens, thereby enhancing visual understanding and producing compact visual tokens. In addition, a Kolmogorov Arnold Network (KAN)-based modality projector with learnable activation functions is employed to achieve precise nonlinear alignment from visual features to the text semantic space, thus minimizing information loss. Finally, TaiChi is integrated into a multimodal and multitask token communication system equipped with a joint VLM-channel coding scheme. Experimental results validate the superior performance of TaiChi, as well as the feasibility and effectiveness of the TaiChi-driven token communication system.

Agentic AI Empowered Multi-UAV Trajectory Optimization in Low-Altitude Economy Networks

This paper proposes a novel Agentic Retrieval-augmented generation with Mamba-Attention Integrated Transformer (ARMAIT) framework for multi-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) trajectory optimization. The framework is built upon Large Language Models (LLMs), incorporating Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) empowered by Agentic AI and integrated with a UAV-specific knowledge base. Through the Agentic RAG, the LLM autonomously interprets high-level task requirements and identifies the key components necessary for trajectory optimization, including model inputs and outputs, network architecture, reward functions, and task constraints. To support efficient modeling across different system scales, we introduce the Mamba-Attention Integrated Transformer (MAIT), a hybrid neural architecture that combines the long-range dependency modeling capability of attention mechanisms with the efficient temporal dynamic representation of Mamba. Furthermore, a Trajectory-Group Relative Policy Optimization (T-GRPO) method is proposed to achieve unified policy gradient optimization in both discrete and continuous trajectory spaces for MAIT training. Extensive experimental results validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed ARMAIT framework.

A Unified Cloud-Edge-Terminal Framework for Multimodal Integrated Sensing and Communication

The transition to 6G calls for tightly integrated sensing and communication to support mission-critical services such as autonomous driving, embodied AI, and high-precision telemedicine. However, most existing ISAC designs rely on a single sensing modality (often RF), which limits environmental understanding and becomes a bottleneck in complex and dynamic scenes. This motivates a shift from single-modal to multimodal ISAC, where heterogeneous sensors (e.g., radar, LiDAR, and cameras) complement each other to improve robustness and semantic awareness. In this article, we first summarize key challenges for multimodal ISAC, including heterogeneous fusion, communication overhead, and scalable system design. We then highlight three enabling technologies: large AI models, semantic communications, and multi-agent systems, and discuss how their combination can enable task-oriented multimodal perception. Building on these insights, we propose a unified cloud-edge-terminal (CET) framework that hierarchically distributes intelligence and supports three adaptive operation modes: global fusion mode (GFM), cooperative relay mode (CRM), and peer interaction mode (PIM). A case study evaluates the framework across three modes, demonstrating that GFM achieves the highest accuracy, PIM minimizes latency, and CRM strikes an optimal balance between performance and efficiency. Finally, we conclude with open research issues and future directions.

Personalized Wireless Federated Learning for Large Language Models

Large language models (LLMs) have driven profound transformations in wireless networks. However, within wireless environments, the training of LLMs faces significant challenges related to security and privacy. Federated Learning (FL), with its decentralized architecture, offers enhanced data privacy protection. Nevertheless, when integrated with LLMs, FL still struggles with several critical limitations, including large-scale and heterogeneous data, resource-intensive training, and substantial communication overhead. To address these challenges, this paper first presents a systematic analysis of the distinct training stages of LLMs in wireless networks, including pre-training, instruction tuning, and alignment tuning. Building upon this foundation, we propose a Personalized Wireless Federated Fine-tuning (PWFF) framework. Initially, we utilize the adapter and Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) techniques to decrease energy consumption, while employing global partial aggregation to reduce communication delay. Subsequently, we develop two reward models and design a personalized loss function to fulfill the goal of personalized learning. Furthermore, we implement a local multi-objective alignment to ensure the stability and effectiveness of the FL process. Finally, we conduct a series of simulations to validate the performance of the proposed PWFF method and provide an in-depth discussion of the open issues.

SIMAC: A Semantic-Driven Integrated Multimodal Sensing And Communication Framework

Traditional single-modality sensing faces limitations in accuracy and capability, and its decoupled implementation with communication systems increases latency in bandwidth-constrained environments. Additionally, single-task-oriented sensing systems fail to address users' diverse demands. To overcome these challenges, we propose a semantic-driven integrated multimodal sensing and communication (SIMAC) framework. This framework leverages a joint source-channel coding architecture to achieve simultaneous sensing decoding and transmission of sensing results. Specifically, SIMAC first introduces a multimodal semantic fusion (MSF) network, which employs two extractors to extract semantic information from radar signals and images, respectively. MSF then applies cross-attention mechanisms to fuse these unimodal features and generate multimodal semantic representations. Secondly, we present a large language model (LLM)-based semantic encoder (LSE), where relevant communication parameters and multimodal semantics are mapped into a unified latent space and input to the LLM, enabling channel-adaptive semantic encoding. Thirdly, a task-oriented sensing semantic decoder (SSD) is proposed, in which different decoded heads are designed according to the specific needs of tasks. Simultaneously, a multi-task learning strategy is introduced to train the SIMAC framework, achieving diverse sensing services. Finally, experimental simulations demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves diverse sensing services and higher accuracy.

Large Language Models (LLMs) possess human-level cognitive and decision-making capabilities, making them a key technology for 6G. However, applying LLMs to the communication domain faces three major challenges: 1) Inadequate communication data; 2) Restricted input modalities; and 3) Difficulty in knowledge retrieval. To overcome these issues, we propose CommGPT, a multimodal foundation model designed specifically for communications. First, we create high-quality pretraining and fine-tuning datasets tailored in communication, enabling the LLM to engage in further pretraining and fine-tuning with communication concepts and knowledge. Then, we design a multimodal encoder to understand and process information from various input modalities. Next, we construct a Graph and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (GRG) framework, efficiently coupling Knowledge Graph (KG) with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for multi-scale learning. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the CommGPT through experimental validation.

M4SC: An MLLM-based Multi-modal, Multi-task and Multi-user Semantic Communication System

Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) are capable of precisely extracting high-level semantic information from multi-modal data, enabling multi-task understanding and generation. This capability facilitates more efficient and intelligent data transmission in semantic communications. In this paper, we design a tailored MLLM for semantic communication and propose an MLLM-based Multi-modal, Multi-task and Multi-user Semantic Communication (M4SC) system. First, we utilize the Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN) to achieve multi-modal alignment in MLLMs, thereby enhancing the accuracy of semantics representation in the semantic space across different modalities. Next, we introduce a multi-task fine-tuning approach based on task instruction following, which leverages a unified task instruction template to describe various semantic communication tasks, improving the MLLM's ability to follow instructions across multiple tasks. Additionally, by designing a semantic sharing mechanism, we transmit the public and private semantic information of multiple users separately, thus increasing the efficiency of semantic communication. Finally, we employ a joint KAN-LLM-channel coding strategy to comprehensively enhance the performance of the semantic communication system in complex communication environments. Experimental results validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed M4SC in multi-modal, multi-task, and multi-user scenarios.

Lightweight Vision Model-based Multi-user Semantic Communication Systems

Semantic Communication (SemCom) is a promising new paradigm for next-generation communication systems, emphasizing the transmission of core information, particularly in environments characterized by uncertainty, noise, and bandwidth constraints. However, existing image SemCom systems face several challenges, such as inefficient knowledge base construction, insufficient semantic encoding, and lack of multi-user semantic sharing. To address these issues, we propose a Lightweight Vision Model-based Multi-user Semantic Communication System (LVM-MSC). First, we construct a Lightweight Knowledge Base (LKB) based on the fast Segment Anything Model (SAM). LKB incorporates the extensive image knowledge of the SAM model while significantly reducing the number of parameters through its convolutional architecture. Next, we design an Efficient Semantic Codec (ESC) based on the Masked AutoEncoder (MAE) architecture. ESC enhances semantic compression at both the pixel and semantic levels and implements lightweight semantic decoding tailored for user devices. Furthermore, we propose a Multi-user Semantic Sharing (MSS) transmission for the multi-user SemCom. By calculating the similarity of semantic information among different users in the sharing semantic space, we unify the transmissions of similar semantic information through broadcasting, further improving the transmission efficiency. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed LVM-MSC system.

Attention-based UAV Trajectory Optimization for Wireless Power Transfer-assisted IoT Systems

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in Wireless Power Transfer (WPT)-assisted Internet of Things (IoT) systems face the following challenges: limited resources and suboptimal trajectory planning. Reinforcement learning-based trajectory planning schemes face issues of low search efficiency and learning instability when optimizing large-scale systems. To address these issues, we present an Attention-based UAV Trajectory Optimization (AUTO) framework based on the graph transformer, which consists of an Attention Trajectory Optimization Model (ATOM) and a Trajectory lEarNing Method based on Actor-critic (TENMA). In ATOM, a graph encoder is used to calculate the self-attention characteristics of all IoTDs, and a trajectory decoder is developed to optimize the number and trajectories of UAVs. TENMA then trains the ATOM using an improved Actor-Critic method, in which the real reward of the system is applied as the baseline to reduce variances in the critic network. This method is suitable for high-quality and large-scale multi-UAV trajectory planning. Finally, we develop numerous experiments, including a hardware experiment in the field case, to verify the feasibility and efficiency of the AUTO framework.

Explainable Semantic Federated Learning Enabled Industrial Edge Network for Fire Surveillance

In fire surveillance, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices require transmitting large monitoring data frequently, which leads to huge consumption of spectrum resources. Hence, we propose an Industrial Edge Semantic Network (IESN) to allow IIoT devices to send warnings through Semantic communication (SC). Thus, we should consider (1) Data privacy and security. (2) SC model adaptation for heterogeneous devices. (3) Explainability of semantics. Therefore, first, we present an eXplainable Semantic Federated Learning (XSFL) to train the SC model, thus ensuring data privacy and security. Then, we present an Adaptive Client Training (ACT) strategy to provide a specific SC model for each device according to its Fisher information matrix, thus overcoming the heterogeneity. Next, an Explainable SC (ESC) mechanism is designed, which introduces a leakyReLU-based activation mapping to explain the relationship between the extracted semantics and monitoring data. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of XSFL.

The rapid development of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) continually unveils the potential of Semantic Communication (SemCom). However, current talking-face SemCom systems still encounter challenges such as low bandwidth utilization, semantic ambiguity, and diminished Quality of Experience (QoE). This study introduces a Large Generative Model-assisted Talking-face Semantic Communication (LGM-TSC) System tailored for the talking-face video communication. Firstly, we introduce a Generative Semantic Extractor (GSE) at the transmitter based on the FunASR model to convert semantically sparse talking-face videos into texts with high information density. Secondly, we establish a private Knowledge Base (KB) based on the Large Language Model (LLM) for semantic disambiguation and correction, complemented by a joint knowledge base-semantic-channel coding scheme. Finally, at the receiver, we propose a Generative Semantic Reconstructor (GSR) that utilizes BERT-VITS2 and SadTalker models to transform text back into a high-QoE talking-face video matching the user's timbre. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed LGM-TSC system.

GAI-Enabled Explainable Personalized Federated Semi-Supervised Learning

Federated learning (FL) is a commonly distributed algorithm for mobile users (MUs) training artificial intelligence (AI) models, however, several challenges arise when applying FL to real-world scenarios, such as label scarcity, non-IID data, and unexplainability. As a result, we propose an explainable personalized FL framework, called XPFL. First, we introduce a generative AI (GAI) assisted personalized federated semi-supervised learning, called GFed. Particularly, in local training, we utilize a GAI model to learn from large unlabeled data and apply knowledge distillation-based semi-supervised learning to train the local FL model using the knowledge acquired from the GAI model. In global aggregation, we obtain the new local FL model by fusing the local and global FL models in specific proportions, allowing each local model to incorporate knowledge from others while preserving its personalized characteristics. Second, we propose an explainable AI mechanism for FL, named XFed. Specifically, in local training, we apply a decision tree to match the input and output of the local FL model. In global aggregation, we utilize t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) to visualize the local models before and after aggregation. Finally, simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed XPFL framework.
