Dispersive blow-up and persistence properties for the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system

We study the dispersive blow-up phenomena for the Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries (S-KdV) system. Roughly, dispersive blow-up has being called to the development of point singularities due to the focussing of short or long waves. In mathematical terms, we show that the existence of this kind of singularities is provided by the linear dispersive solution by proving that the Duhamel term is smoother. It seems that this result is the first regarding systems of nonlinear dispersive equations. To obtain our results we use, in addition to smoothing properties, persistence properties for solutions of the IVP in fractional weighted Sobolev spaces which we establish here.

On a class of solutions to the generalized derivative Schrödinger equations II

In this note we shall continue our study on the initial value problem associated for the generalized derivative Schrödinger (gDNLS) equation $$ \partial_tu=i\partial_x^2u + μ\,|u|^α\partial_x u, \hskip10pt x,t\in\mathbb{R}, \hskip5pt 0<α\le 1\;\; {\rm and}\;\; |μ|=1. $$ Inspiring by Cazenave-Naumkin's works we shall establish the local well-posedness for a class of data of arbitrary size in an appropriate weighted Sobolev space, thus removing the size restriction on the data required in our previous work. The main new tool in the proof is the homogeneous and inhomogeneous versions of the Kato smoothing effect for the linear Schrödinger equation with lower order variable coefficients established by Kenig-Ponce-Vega.

On the periodic Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

We consider the Cauchy problem associated with the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation, posed on $\mathbb{T}^2$. We prove the local well-posedness for given data in $H^s(\mathbb{T}^2)$ whenever $s>5/3$. More importantly, we prove that this equation is of quasi-linear type for initial data in any Sobolev space on the torus, in sharp contrast with its semi-linear character in the $\mathbb{R}^2$ and $\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}$ settings.

Uniqueness results for Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation

In this paper we study uniqueness properties of solutions to the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation of plasma physic. Given two sufficiently regular solutions $u_1, u_2,$ we prove that, if $u_1-u_2$ decays fast enough at two distinct times, then $u_1\equiv u_2.$

On a class of solutions to the generalized KdV type equation

We consider the IVP associated to the generalized KdV equation with low degree of non-linearity \begin{equation*} \partial_t u + \partial_x^3 u \pm |u|^α\partial_x u = 0,\; x,t \in \mathbb{R},\;α\in (0,1). \end{equation*} By using an argument similar to that introduced by Cazenave and Naumkin [2] we establish the local well-posedness for a class of data in an appropriate weighted Sobolev space. Also, we show that the solutions obtained satisfy the propagation of regularity principle proven in [3] in solutions of the $k$-generalized KdV equation.

On a class of solutions to the generalized derivative Schrödinger equations

In this work we shall consider the initial value problem associated to the generalized derivative Schrödinger equations \begin{equation*} \p_tu=i\p_x^2u + μ\,|u|^{\a}\p_xu, \hskip10pt x,t\in\R, \hskip5pt 0<\a \le 1\;\, {\rm and}\;\, |μ|=1, \end{equation*} and \begin{equation*} \p_tu=i\p_x^2u + μ\,\p_x\big(|u|^{\a}u\big), \hskip10pt x,t\in\R, \hskip5pt 0<\a \le 1\;\, {\rm and}\;\, |μ|=1. \end{equation*} Following the argument introduced by Cazenave and Naumkin \cite{Cazenave} we shall establish the local well-posedness for a class of small data in an appropriate weighted Sobolev space. The other main tools in the proof include the homogeneous and inhomogeneous versions of the Kato smoothing effect for the linear Schrödinger equation established by Kenig-Ponce-Vega in \cite{KPV1}.

Large data scattering for the defocusing supercritical generalized KdV equation

We consider the defocusing supercritical generalized Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV) equation $\partial_t u+\partial_x^3u-\partial_x(u^{k+1})=0$, where $k>4$ is an even integer number. We show that if the initial data $u_0$ belongs to $H^1$ then the corresponding solution is global and scatters in $H^1$. Our method of proof is inspired on the compactness method introduced by C. Kenig and F. Merle.

Properties of solutions to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line in a class containing the peakons

We study special properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Camassa-Holm equation on the line related to the regularity and the decay of solutions. The first aim is to show how the regularity on the initial data is transferred to the corresponding solution in a class containing the "peakon solutions". In particular, we shall show that the local regularity is similar to that exhibited by the solution of the inviscid Burger's equation with the same initial datum. The second goal is to prove that the decay results obtained in a paper of Himonas, Misiołek, Ponce, and Zhou extend to the class of solutions considered here.

On the regularity of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

This work is concerned with special regularity properties of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation. In \cite{IsazaLinaresPonce} it was established that if the initial datun $u_0\in H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$, then the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Our goal here is to extend this result to the case where $\,l\in \mathbb R^+$.

On the propagation of regularity of solutions of the Kadomtsev-Petviashvilli (KPII) equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the KPII equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in X_s(\mathbb R^2)$, $s>2$, (see (1.2) below) whose restriction belongs to $H^m((x_0,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 3,$ and $x_0\in \mathbb R$, we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty)\times\mathbb R)$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$.

On the propagation of regularities in solutions of the Benjamin-Ono equation

We shall deduce some special regularity properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the Benjamin-Ono equation. Mainly, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/2}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^m((b,\infty))$ for some $m\in\mathbb Z^+,\,m\geq 2,$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we shall prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^m((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t>0$. Therefore, this type of regularity of the datum travels with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Propagation of regularity and decay of solutions to the $k$-generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation

We study special regularity and decay properties of solutions to the IVP associated to the $k$-generalized KdV equations. In particular, for datum $u_0\in H^{3/4^+}(\mathbb R)$ whose restriction belongs to $H^l((b,\infty))$ for some $l\in\mathbb Z^+$ and $b\in \mathbb R$ we prove that the restriction of the corresponding solution $u(\cdot,t)$ belongs to $H^l((β,\infty))$ for any $β\in \mathbb R$ and any $t\in (0,T)$. Thus, this type of regularity propagates with infinite speed to its left as time evolves.

Decay properties for solutions of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations

We consider the initial value problem associated to a large class of fifth order nonlinear dispersive equations. This class includes several models arising in the study of different physical phenomena. Our aim is to establish special (space) decay properties of solutions to these systems. These properties complement previous unique continuation results and in some case, show that they are optimal. These decay estimates reflect the "parabolic character" of these dispersive models in exponential weighted spaces. This principle was first obtained by T. Kato in solutions of the KdV equation

Control and Stabilization of the Benjamin-Ono equation in $L^2(\mathbb T)$

We prove the control and stabilization of the Benjamin-Ono equation in $L^2(\T)$, the lowest regularity where the initial value problem is well-posed. This problem was already initiated in \cite{LinaresRosierBO} where a stronger stabilization term was used (that makes the equation of parabolic type in the control zone). Here we employ a more natural stabilization term related to the $L^2$ norm. Moreover, by proving a theorem of controllability in $L^2$, we manage to prove the global controllability in large time. Our analysis relies strongly on the bilinear estimates proved in \cite{MolinetPilodBO} and some new extension of these estimates established here.

Dispersive perturbations of Burgers and hyperbolic equations I : local theory

The aim of this paper is to show how a weakly dispersive perturbation of the inviscid Burgers equation improve (enlarge) the space of resolution of the local Cauchy problem. More generally we will review several problems arising from weak dispersive perturbations of nonlinear hyperbolic equations or systems.
