A short note on the image of multilinear graded polynomials on matrix algebras

We investigate the subspaces obtained by images of multilinear graded polynomials evaluated on the matrix algebra endowed with the canonical $C_n$-grading, where $C_n$ denotes the cyclic group of order $n$. Moreover, this graded algebra admits a natural action of $C_n$ arising from a fine refinement of the grading. We prove that every $C_n$-submodule of the trivial component of the grading is the image of some multilinear polynomial in graded variables. In particular, we answer in the negative a recent conjecture posed by T.~de Castilho and L.~Centrone (2023).

A note on the image of graded multilinear polynomials on upper triangular matrices

We investigate the image of polynomials multilinear in graded variables evaluated on the algebra of upper triangular matrices endowed with a group grading. We show that, in general, such an image need not be a vector subspace. However, under the additional assumption that the identity component of the grading is commutative, we prove that the image is always a vector subspace. We further investigate the image of polynomials evaluated on inverse and direct limits of algebras. As a consequence, we prove that the image of a polynomial evaluated on a direct limit of upper triangular matrix algebras whose identity component is commutative is always a vector subspace.

On nonmatrix varieties of associative rings

We study nonmatrix varieties of $\mathbf{k}$-algebras, where $\mathbf{k}$ is a unital commutative ring. Our results extend to this generality known results for the case in which $\mathbf{k}$ is an infinite field. Also, we generalize these results to varieties of $\mathbf{k}$-algebras not containing the algebra of $n\times n$ matrices.

On the PI-exponent of matrix algebras and algebras with generalized actions

We compute the PI-exponent of the matrix ring with coefficients in an associative algebra. As a consequence, we prove the following. Let $\mathcal{R}$ be a PI-algebra with a positive PI-exponent. If $M_n(\mathcal{R})$ and $M_m(\mathcal{R})$ satisfy the same set of polynomial identities then $n=m$. We provide examples where this result fails if either $\mathcal{R}$ is not PI or has zero exponent. We obtain the same statement for certain finite-dimensional algebras with generalized action over an algebraically closed field of zero characteristic.

On the asymptotic behaviour of the graded-star-codimension sequence of upper triangular matrices

We study the algebra of upper triangular matrices endowed with a group grading and a homogeneous involution over an infinite field. We compute the asymptotic behaviour of its (graded) star-codimension sequence. It turns out that the asymptotic growth of the sequence is independent of the grading and the involution under consideration, depending solely on the size of the matrix algebra. This independence of the group grading also applies to the graded codimension sequence of the associative algebra of upper triangular matrices.

Group gradings on triangularizable algebras

Classifying isomorphism classes of group gradings on algebras presents a compelling challenge, particularly within the realms of non-simple and infinite-dimensional algebras, which have been relatively unexplored. This study focuses on a kind of algebra that is neither simple nor finite-dimensional, aiming to classify the group gradings on triangularizable algebras as defined by Mesyan in 2019. The topology of infinite-dimensional algebras, along with the role of idempotent elements, plays a crucial role in our findings, leading to new insights and a deeper understanding of their structure.

Superpolynomial identities of finite-dimensional simple algebras

We investigate the Grassmann envelope (of finite rank) of a finite-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded algebra. As a result, we describe the polynomial identities of $G_1(\mathcal{A})$, where $G_1$ stands for the Grassmann algebra with $1$ generator, and $\mathcal{A}$ is a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple associative algebra. We also classify the conditions under which two associative $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple algebras share the same set of superpolynomial identities, i.e., the polynomial identities of its Grassmann envelope (in particular, of finite rank). Moreover, we extend the construction of the Grassmann envelope for the context of $Ω$-algebras and prove some of its properties. Lastly, we give a description of $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded-simple $Ω$-algebras.

Graded polynomial identities of the infinite-dimensional upper triangular matrices over an arbitrary field

We compute the graded polynomial identities of the infinite dimensional upper triangular matrix algebra over an arbitrary field. If the grading group is finite, we prove that the set of graded polynomial identities admits a finite basis. We find conditions under which a grading on such an algebra satisfies a nontrivial graded polynomial identity. Finally, we provide examples showing that two nonisomorphic gradings can have the same set of graded polynomial identities.

On star-homogeneous-graded polynomial identities of upper triangular matrices over an arbitrary field

We study the graded polynomial identities with a homogeneous involution on the algebra of upper triangular matrices endowed with a fine group grading. We compute their polynomial identities and a basis of the relatively free algebra, considering an arbitrary base field. We obtain the asymptotic behaviour of the codimension sequence when the characteristic of the base field is zero. As a consequence, we compute the exponent and the second exponent of the same algebra endowed with any group grading and any homogeneous involution.

Universal enveloping of a graded Lie algebra

In this paper we construct a graded universal enveloping algebra of a $G$-graded Lie algebra, where $G$ is not necessarily an abelian group. If the grading group is abelian, then it coincides with the classical construction. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the graded enveloping algebra. As consequences, we prove a graded variant of Witt's Theorem on the universal enveloping algebra of the free Lie algebra, and the graded version of Ado's Theorem, which states that every finite-dimensional Lie algebra admits a faithful finite dimensional representation. Furthermore we investigate if a Lie grading is equivalent to an abelian grading.

Homogeneous involution on graded division algebras and their polynomial identities

In this short note, we describe the so-called homogeneous involution on finite-dimensional graded-division algebra over an algebraically closed field. We also compute their graded polynomial identities with involution. As pointed out by L. Fonseca and T. de Mello, a homogeneous involution naturally appears when dealing with graded polynomial identities and a compatible involution.

Gradings on the algebra of triangular matrices as a Lie algebra: revisited

We investigate the group gradings on the algebra of upper triangular matrices over an arbitrary field, viewed as a Lie algebra. These results were obtained a few years early by the same authors. We provide streamlined proofs, and present a complete classification of isomorphism classes of the gradings. We also provide a classification of the practical isomorphism classes of the gradings, which is a better alternative way to consider these gradings up to being essentially the same object. Finally, we investigate in details the case where the characteristic of the base field is $2$, a topic that was neglected in previous works.

Relatively free algebras of finite rank

Let $\mathbb{K}$ be a field of characteristic zero and $B=B_0+B_1$ a finite dimensional associative superalgebra. In this paper we investigate the polynomial identities of the relatively free algebras of finite rank of the variety $\mathfrak V$ defined by the Grassmann envelope of $B$. We also consider the $k$-th Grassmann Envelope of $B$, $G^{(k)}(B)$, constructed with the $k$-generated Grassmann algebra, instead of the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra. We specialize our studies for the algebra $UT_2(G)$ and $UT_2(G^{(k)})$, which can be seen as the Grassmann envelope and $k$-th Grassmann envelope, respectively, of the superalgebra $UT_2(\mathbb{K}[u])$, where $u^2=1$.

Group gradings on upper block triangular matrices

It was proved by Valenti and Zaicev, in 2011, that, if $G$ is an abelian group and $K$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, then any $G$-grading on the algebra of upper block triangular matrices over $K$ is isomorphic to a tensor product $M_n(K)\otimes UT(n_1,n_2,\ldots,n_d)$, where $UT(n_1,n_2,\ldots,n_d)$ is endowed with an elementary grading and $M_n(K)$ is provided with a division grading. In this paper, we prove the validity of the same result for a non necessarily commutative group and over an adequate field (characteristic either zero or large enough), not necessarily algebraically closed.
